    If I may recommend something if you haven’t already figured it out, took me a month 😆 but definitely changed how I used these dumbbells. The part where it should say bowflex, that part needs to be facing down, naturally you want to take it out and start lifting but the weight distribution when facing down is a huge difference in my opinion. I own the fake 552 & the 1090 and I noticed it the difference after 30lb. Hopefully that helps everyone. Cheers

      It's one of the quirks of several adjustable dumbbell designs that use U-shaped weight plates.The U-shaped weight plates mean the dumbbell is initially bottom heavy and basically applies torque in the palm of your hand as you begin to lift/rotate/curl the dumbbells upward. The technique you're using brings that offset weight back behind your palm to a somewhat more neutral position near your wrist. The result is closer to what you might experience with a traditional dumbbell.

    • @HaIsKuL
      @HaIsKuL 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just tried it and I could definitely feel the difference, especially due to my recovering wrist. However, I'm afraid that if any catastrophic failure were to happen, like one of the plates breaking off, the red thing going across it wouldn't catch it. It seems really sketchy, particularly because sometimes I can hear a plate *clink* into place as I'm positioning myself underneath the dumbbells.

    • @AverageJoeInnovationsLLC
      @AverageJoeInnovationsLLC 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@HaIsKuL Hey TK, if you're holding the dumbbell upside down (red crossbar of the 552 Series 2 facing the floor, black on 1090 and grey on 552 Series 1), then the plates cannot fall off the dumbbell toward the floor. The U-shaped design of the weights and the dumbbell's shaft prevents that from happening.
      The metal-reinforced plastic "crossbar" serves only one purpose on the SelectTech dumbbells, and that is to prevent rotation of the weight plates on the dumbbell shaft while the dumbbell is out of its base. Why? Because rotation of the plates while the dumbbell is out of its base would enable the plates to disengage the discs that retain them...and the plates would fall out.
      The knocking/clinking sounds you hear are nothing more than the weight plates shifting around in the dumbbells as you go through your range of motion. The tolerances on SelectTech dumbbells are poor...meaning everything fits loosely. And that is somewhat by design. It's significantly less expensive to manufacture low tolerance parts, and a bit more forgiving when it comes to sliding the handle into and out of the base.
      I am no medical professional, but I would not recommend doing anything that will potentially increase the stresses on a wrist recovering from injury/surgery. I'd wait until your wrist is 100% to try this technique.

    if they are like $100-150, i guess it's definitely worth it. bowflex are made with half plastic anyway and these dumbbells are not for hardcore but for regular people who need quick workout at home in case they can't go to gym.

    First day impressions:It arrived in a waist high box. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxP26Tir6n60vUkdtn4mbwhRO8cwuJQNy2 Each dumbbell was in its own foam box within the shipping box. Everything was secure and in good shape. No weird smells. The weight changing mechanism is really smooth and straight forward. Changing weight is really fast and easy. Though the handle is plastic, I don't think it will be breaking anytime soon. So far pretty impressed after my first session with them. I was afraid they were going to be too wide at first, but I didn't have any issues with them while doing upright rows.
