Looks like it rides better than it has in years. Amusement park lovers owe Gene Staples a debt of gratitude for making it his new mission in life to save endangered small parks.

Good for Fantasy Island. They had a few rough years, but it's good to see them back.

The sound of my childhood. My first ever roller coaster. Lol. I might go today since I heard of the reopening.

Nice footage! I was at the park this past weekend and Silver Comet is running better than ever. Kudos to Gene Staples, Dana and the crew for all the hard work they're doing. This park has a bright future.

These old wooden roller coasters are great! Yes, the newer ones made out of steel are awesome, but nothing beats an old-fashioned woodie. This one was probably designed and built without the aid of computers, too!

I was thinking the same thing. While the ride is short, it certainly has excellent pacing right to the end. The final turn around especially (2nd to last turn into the brake run). It has a very weird layout though, like it cannot make up it's mind if it wants to be an out and back or a twister. What is even more funny is that I never heard of this park until recently. Curious to find out more information about the park and this coaster. Specifically, who desiged and built it. I noticed that it has a steel framework, which is what the famous Coney Island Cyclone has. With good upkeep, that frame will last forever (or nearly so). While this certainly looks like an old coaster, it seems to run pretty smooth, save for the bottom of the first drop. However, most woodies are a bit jarring in that area. EDIT: I looked it up on RCDB. Hmmm, it apparently isn't an oldie. It is a CCI built in 1999.

Yes… all the fancy coasters in the world are great, but I’ll take a good old-fashioned wooden coaster any day! 👍👍👍

Rode it for the first time yesterday, I thought it was excellent! Great airtime, good laterals, not rough at all. Definitely an underrated woodie, and I'll 100% be back next year

I really hope they ditch these ptc trains for millennium flyers at some point. Ptc trains on cci hybrids is always a bad match. For some reason the just trash the track. They are not meant for rides with tons of banked curves and higher speeds. Although I am thrilled they got it going again.

To askjeevescosby: Yeah, GCI's Millennium Flyer trains are the best! The 3-point suspension cars in their trains negotiate sharp curves effortlessly. And they're so comfy and heavily padded, they're almost like sitting on a couch! You really can't beat 'em!
