FINALLY A VIDEO THAT IS COMPLETELY DONE!!
Unlike ALL the others who refuse to show REMOVAL AND COMPLETE REPLACEMENT OF THE UPPER BALL JOINT AND A FRAME BOLTS!
THANK YOU FOR NOT DOING A WORTHLESS JOB LIKE A DOZEN OTHER PEOPLE WHO REFUSE TO DO IT RIGHT AND COMPLETE!
GREAT VIDEO.😊❤❤
When you have the new arm installed and the ball joint pinch bolt tightened, and both upper bushing bolts are in with the nuts started, reinstall the wheel and set the vehicle on ground. Jounce (bounce, or cycle) the suspension to put the bushings in a curb height resting place. Start the engine and the turn the wheel to the right, and when you have enough room to access the bolt turn the wheel slightly left so there's no tension on the bushing. Tighten the bolt to factory specs. Then turn the wheel the opposite direction and repeat the procedure. This will insure there will be no bushing bind period because the vehicle is at curb height. Perform a thrust angle alignment afterwards...subscribed, great video!
I have the same 19.2 volt tool and it still is working great.Had it now well over 3 years.Great video. Good to see a young person learning a trade.

Hi, Thanks for the Good Video. Quick question, what are the driving symptoms of a loose or worn ball joint. Also, If i want to replace the ball joint, do i HAVE to replace the Upper Arm...
Thanks
Thanks for the video

When buying suspension components, is it best to buy OE brands or can you buy aftermarket brands?
Nice video. If doing both upper and lower in this vehicle, which one gets done 1st?
Good job.
Nice work. Wondering if aftermarket arms on this truck have serviceable joints?
Thank you sir. Good! Vid.
Hi, I have an 2004 Ford Explorer XLT, and I need to replace my upper and lower ball joints. Is it the same as this video for the Ford Explorer Sport Trac? Meaning i will have to replace as an assembly instead of just the ball joint by itself?
how do you determine the mid travel?
Does this sport trac look identical to a 04' Explorer 2 door 6 cylinder when replacing upper arm & ball joint? Is there a lower arm and ball joint or just a lower ball joint when replacing them on the 04' Explorer 2 door 6 cylinder? Is an alignment required if you just change both lower ball joints on a Explorer 2 door 6 cylinder or only if you change the upper ball joints on a Explorer 2 door 6 cylinder. Why buy a Chamber Bolt Kit & install it when u r changing upper or lower ball joints? thx
Thanks!
Does the upper control arm come with the ball joint alrey in it, assembled
You got lucky on the upper bushings. I've had them so frozen the only way was to cut them out. What a gigantic pain in the keester.....
Thaks!
Excellent video. :-)
nice option
I have the exact same truck year and model and I have to replace both front upper control arms and both front lower ball joints. This has been one of the few helpful videos I have found so far, I was wondering if you had another one showing how to replace the lower ball joints. Thanks in advance.
jgonz1104 what about the other side?
Nice work Will. Just wanted to stop by to say hello and hope you and your family are doing well.
thx for this video...whitch car is this?
yup thanx!
I replaced the upper control arm which included the ball joint, if you take notice the upper ball joint is attached to the top of the spindle, with that in mind a ball joint is used where a part needs to move, the tire bolts to the spindle Assembly and needs to turn and move with the suspension while staying in alignment, we replaced the upper ball joint something needs to keep the lower potion of the spindle secure and inline that's where the lower ball joint comes into play, hope that helps
Take note before jacking the vehicle at the angle or the control arm, try to get it near that point, i know this isn't 100% mid however helps out tremendously, if you just tighten the bushings up with the travel fully extended when you let the vehicle down it tries to relax the bushing will be loaded just sitting, therefore try to achieve a normal relaxed ride height then tighten
thanks
4wd im assuming? i believe you can replace just the ball joints, however if you have any loose bushings it may be easier to replace the whole assembly, hope that helps
In addition; They do change slightly from year/make/model if yours is not the same let me know i will look it up
hope that helps
Can I replace the two piece a arm with the one piece a arm on the left side 🤔
What was all the tools needed for the job
Your welcome, If you have the same year/make/model and need the exact service (upper control arm assembly) your looking at 1 hour per side by the book. Not sure the hourly rate in your area, in PA. from $50 to $100 then you have the part our local store caries for around $60 main thing is going to be the labor don't let them rake you on that, i follow a parts and time guide and will never charge more than the time allowed, alignment is an extra charge avg. $60 around here, get an estimate first
Is it okay to put anti-seize compound or grease on the tapered ball joint pin before fastening it back into the steering knuckle to prevent it from sticking in the future?
fishodorvagina should help
i need some help with a front differential on a 93 explorer can anyone help?
Like!
Your welcome
I'm doing the driver's side how do you get the bolt out of the control arm where the brake lines (or transmission lines) are? Bolt won't come out
Keep moving the arm up n down while pulling the bolt out. I’m a rookie but that’s how I get mine out.. really pain..
thanks man , Ford Dealer make me budget for replace upper and lower ball joints $1300.00, I will fix it by myself, what you think? Moog brand is better?
Fix it yourself! My daughter has a 1999mercury mountaineer and shes having to replace hers. Luckily, she goes to school for mechanics and can replace any part for free.
I have an 05 escalade makes a clunk noise on passenger side when i hit bumps/potholes, etc. I'm thinking it's the ball joints. Do they make a clunking noise if real bad?
yep
Well they moved the fuel and evap lines after 1998. Just did this on my kids Exploder and had a hell of a time! They were definitely put in after the control arm was and right in front of that camber bolt. Probably going to have an evap leak now.
Dealing with that shit ass bs right now really would like to know what ford was thinking
If you are a mechanic, are you authorized to do your own state inspection on your own vehicle?
Did it need alignment?
+newstart49 5:05
Pretty much straight forward in the video, BUT you ddn't even bother to silicone grease the bushings or clean the rust off that hardware. That's cutting corners in my opinion.
You don't have to replace the whole control arm to replace the ball joint. On this vehicle you can press out the ball joints instead of replacing the whole arm. It's cheaper that way and sometimes less work. For the people asking how do you know if your ball joints are bad. Get a pry bar and pry against the ball joint. If there's play at the ball joint. The ball joint is bad.
Ruben Corga um just tug on the tire my man... just like you would to check the wheel baring 3 and 9 and 12 and 6. just like they do in shops.... and actually its better to replace the control arm. you can get them from rockauto for 45 to 60 bucks.. better then getting just the balljoint....
Good video but does this also apply to 2003 Lincoln aviator
Yes.
Could the ball joints going bad cause a loud squeaking noise when turning?
yes
How can you tell if, your Ball Joints are bad? Does it causes rattling when, driving over bumps in the road?
Normal noises from ball joints are pops and clicks on rough surfaces.
Thank you for the video...how much can cost to change both sides? I just don't want to get ripped off because I'm a woman ;)

They better not or i will chase them down with a wrench and do it for you lol
Hi
I Have A 2004 Ford Explorer Xlt Can you Tell Me How Many Ball Joints Are On That Model Cause The Repair Men I'm Dealing With Is Trying To Get Me
Please And Thanks
Ps How Many Ball Joints Does This One Have?
+Myreverlation
Each side of the front has an upper and a lower ball joint. So a total of 2 per each side.

And There Is No Ball Joints On The Back Upper Or Lower?
How did you know that it was the upper ball joint that needed to be replaced?
xbrakx on mine, the material rubber deteriorated and was falling apart. half of it was gone, but if the rubber has any cracks, it's just a matter of time.
just did mine, makes me jellous that that cars from the states are so clean underneath
+vag lick Depends what part of the USA the truck is from-
What does mid travel mean ? You said you skipped that part in the video. Jack the lower control arm up to mid travel. I don't know what that means.
And do I have to grease the upper arm at all ? You made no mention of that in the video.
I hope you figured it out by now dude you just got to get out there and actually do it you can't expect everyone to show you how to do everything you know be a man

Ok
Great video but it should be named “control arm replacement”
a hora en español
answered my own question.... BOTTOM is 1st.
