Hi Jeremy. The valet is a great light knife. Benchmade Bugout is getting all the "light knife" attention in the benchmade line up right now. But the Valet is a great slim light knife.
If you can discuss heat treatments and how they affect blade steels. I’ve owned high quality steel knives that I feel performed poorly. I can only figure that the heat treating wasn’t done properly. I’m a user not a collector.
All of the M390 equivalent PM2s have come in around/under $150 as well. The only problem is they've all been limited runs and are sold out... and of course command double that on the secondary market.
Are you anti slip joint? I know of of at least one slip at approximately $120, Lionsteel. Curious not busting your chops. I appreciate your mature take on our hobby thanks, Furbs.
Top one: Sanders Contra (This one's for sale if interested email me at houseofwisdomchannel@gmail.com) In the first run there were only 100 made. I have never heard of there being a second run. made in Russia. Next to the top: Shirogorov Hation (also made in Russia)
Chris Wood Quit supporting a communist party. You are only helping out a country that treats its citizens like shit and costing Americans jobs in the long run.
I know its not the same because you have to win a bid on ebay to get it but i got a twosun ts41 in m390 for $47.66 with free shipping from twosun / China. I have ordered 2 other ts knives the ts16 & ts103. Ts16 shipped in 15 day and the ts103 in 18days to TX
Bless Kershaw for selling American made blades in M4, M390, 20v, 204p, etc. that are affordable and not ridiculously overblown. Sadly most of the M390 and equivalents in general don't even meet the acceptable HRC range, but far more budget friendly options exceed them. I don't understand why XHP has disappeared. Why don't Crucible, Bohler, etc. make an XHP equivalent!? If Carpenter isn't up for it
It's not the same thing, the recipe is not the same. Silicon improves strength and us you can clearly see, they have different silicon amounts. Manganese improves hardness and makes the steel more brittle. If you check the recipes shown here, you can see that there is a reason Bohler M390 is much more popular, than the other 2 makers. IMHO, this is the best steel for a folder, no need to go more edge retention than that. This steel sharpens fast and easy, yet it holds it's edge for long time, it is very stainless and it's carbides cut like no other. It doesn't form a big burr as you sharpen it, which means you will not end up with a wire edge. This is pure quality steel. I wish Italians, get it's heat treatment quality a bit better. Cinese are hit or miss. Americans do it right and take it to what it can give, around 62 hrc.
and the good thing about the Kershaw Leek you could get rid of that god-awful speedsafe assisted opening mechanism because yes the Kershaw links blade is drilled for a detent ball
I was disappointed in this vid. I thought the beautiful knives on the table were the budget m390 blades. Can you or anyone else name all the knives on the table? I only recognized the Benchmade valet.
HI, all the knives on the table are M390. there just not very budget friendly. From top to bottom then Left and Right: 1. Sanders Contra Flipper (for sale) 2. Shirogorov Hation 3. Benchmade: Valet 4. Olamic 24/7 acid rain 5. Reate Wave 6. Viper storm 7. Kizer Dorado
-You have a very strange idea what a budget knife is. Above $150 their are many more than you listed but as I said these are not budget blade no matter how you look at it.
This is a point well taken. Hopefully M390 steel will be like S35VN steel and they'll start placing it on $40 knives like the LAPD folding knife. . . some day.
@@TheBigToe69 like you know me? I use all my knives, and it's based strictly off my experiences with both. Whether it's just because of the variations in companies heat treat or whatever, I've just had a little better experience with my 20CV knives over M390. I didn't say one was better than the other, just which I prefer.
I have wanted the Benchmade Valet for a long time. I like the size and the slim profile and grey color. It’s on my must get list.

Exactly. Heat treat makes a huge difference.
Great topic, helpful chart, good choices thank you!
I should’ve added to the point well prepared video.
USA made blade makes an exclusive Kershaw knockout with m390 for $99.

What are the top two knives on your table? They look very nice looking.

@@houseofwisdom3579 if you are in Canada I would be interested. Dont wanna risk CBSA destroying it.
Great vid... watched it firing away my Marfione Customs Cypher
Please explain why you need such a steel? I’m asking because none of the knives you have there looked used?
There are 871 M390 bladed knives available on a popular Chinese website for under $100, there are a lot available out there now.
Wow! thanks for adding to the conversation. Great information.
Good luck with the heat treat on those cheap Chinese m390 blades.

Jacob Okubo And I bought a new in box Microtech Socom Elite m390 for 100$ off a friend. Secondary market doesn’t count. So why even post the comment?

M30 steels?
S30v,154cm,vg10 etc are premium steel,m390 elmax are super steel
The Steel Will knives you picture are not the M390 versions, they're the budget FRN/D2 versions. The M390 versions are G10.

I'd say Viper Fortis, We Practic, ...

I'd rather have 20cv than m390, just me.
TylerDD why is that? It’s identical
Sequester Bartholomew Rosenthal He doesn’t know. Other than the numbers look cooler to him, Idk. Guaranteed he doesn’t use any of the knives he has.
