- In this video, you will find a very simple way of teaching phonics to kids. I will share with you what I did and what worked for us.
First thing's first get some flash cards. I will share an activity with flash cards in the video as well.
Next, you will need a small abc chart to teach link letter names to letter sounds. Make sure to use different categories. 1 to teach phonics (flash cards) and other to teach letter names for small letters (chart in our case).
Also, get a very cheap ABC puzzle board to teach capital letter names.
Lastly you will need Phonics Primer file to keep it as a reference.

A: In general, I am not satisfied with the quality of education in schools. But also, our local school's system (we have only one or two international schools in our city) is not satisfactory. We are aiming to homeschool till 6 years of age for now.

Do you start in alphabetical order for phonics or like jolly phonics ?

Hey Shazina! When I taught, I followed the alphabetical order with flash cards. No particulat reason for it. Though I didn't know about jolly phonics and Saptin then. But I think there's nothing wrong with doing the Saptin first. Whatever suits you and your child :)

Yes Nida! Just use two different things. Like in the video. Use flash cards just for small letter sounds. And a puzzle board for Capital letter names :)

Hello dear. You are doing a great job. Just tell me how to if I want to make my child ABC so first he will learn it through poems an then I'm going to teach him phonics? Because children sometimes get confused in phonics and alphabets.
Usually the poems show capital letters. So it's okay. I am not an expert but I think it's okay to let them learn the capital letters' names through peoms. And phonics with small letters. :)

I taught both side by side! :) Phonics make language learning fun! So don't compromise on that! Agar app ney phonetically read karna nahi sikhaya toh baccha wohi traditional way mey Read karna seekhay ga. Which is okay but it's nottt fun at all! Ratta base learning is not fun!
Best is to keep the balance. Phonetically bhi read karna aey aur by sight bhi pehchan ho words ki.
So yes, don't wait up! Start teaching phonics :) it will take 6months-8months to master the letter sounds.

Sana, the phonics video which makes sense the most to me is from the "little learners" with the English accent. Should I teach my kids through that? I have an American accent and I read to them in that accent. And we live in Pakistan. Please do answer. I have been stuck for months now.

WalaikumAssalam. Alhamd am good. Thank you appreciating Shugufta. I am not very good at DIY. Meri jaan jati koi bhi craft wala kaam karnay sy. But ye ha k laminating sheets app ley k rakh lein. Aur flash cards wagera toh khud ban jatay with a marker/ pen etc. Bas phir with iron laminate them. I have a video on how to laminate at home. Do check that out :)

Research now says to teach phonics with small letters first. I taught letter names first to Yahya. He knew the names of the letters by the age 1. By age 2 he knew his phonics. For Ziyad I am teaching him phonics first. Both ways worked fine with us :)

Hmmm!!! It's difficult when app k ird gird bacchay milestones achieve kar rahay hon. But still, koshish karay k compare na hi karain. Even apnay zehen mey bhi.
I am not an expert likim mera formula simple sa hi raha ha jab Yahya mera beyta kisi cheez sy chirr raha ho toh ma kuch time k liye woh chor deyti hu. And uski jagah aur hands on activities karwatii.
Tracing nahi kar raha toh app Prewriting activities karwaey filhal. I have a video on it on my channel.
Also spending time with kids is crucial. We play alot with Yahya at other times. And talk to him kheyl kheyl mey about feelings :)

@Raza Muhammad ... make the learning fun is the only solution. I learnt the same from Sara... Even I am a very serious person taught to higher level from O Level to Masters. but I found that my seriousness is hinderance in learning of my kids. then i discovered that I have to be funny or interesting for my kids to make them learn. and literally it worked

One thing i didnt get if u r using flash card of lower case with phonics on other side u are telling name of lower case .

@@rakhikhatun7905 I haven't found books that I like in Pakistan. There is this website measured mom. She has phonic books free and paid. You can print those and have the child read them. But you have to wait until he starts reading CVC words atleast.

Yes dear, main baat ye ha k pehchan ani chaiye. Yani jab baccha A ko dekhay toh usey pata ho k ye A ha. Esi tarah jab woh a dekhey toh naturally us k mu sy a ki sound niklay. ABC song bhi zarur sikhaey. App ye tareka follow karay InshAllah acchay results dekhi gi :)
App ka point is very important that's why ma zara zeada detail mey likh ri k agar koi aur parhay toh usay bhi faida ho. I have seen kids older than my son. Jo ABC song bohat accha sunatay likin agar un sey randomly koi letter pucho toh they are not able to tell the letter name or sound.

Assalamoalaikum Sara. First of all ur videos are really good and informative. I have some queries. As u know schools are closed and no online classes for preschoolers... I am confused what should I teach my child...I mean I dont know sequence to follow. MY son is four yrs old, he attended schools for few months, knows phonics and capital Alphabets, can write from a to f, beginning sounds a-f , 1-10, knows shapes and colors. His coloring and pencil grip is very good. I have not yet introduced him sight words and vowels. I am confused now what should I teach him? Should I continue with writing a-z and beginning sound or introduce him vowels and blending of phonics...?
Sorry for the long post but I am a very confused mommy, due to lockdown I feel I should homeschool him but I can't afford materials reqiired for homeschooling, also I am confused with the sequence... can u help me.

This is indeed the hardest step. The first step! Everything seems confusing. Rest assure, google all the time and InshAllah you will get answers. I will try to answer it too here. So here are the following areas that you need to focus on. I believe we have to teach more than just numbers and letters to kids to develop a love for education. So incorporating logic activities and puzzles and games is a must. So the child will take the idea of learning as fun and not just work.
1. Reading books
Buy books if you can. If you can't, search the name of the book on youtube and write read aloud with it. Example. "I want my Hat back read aloud". Sit with your child and watch it. Don't explain him too much. But do talk about it. Ask him how he feels about the events. What he thinks happen in the story.
Another thing is to reenact the story another day. So your child can be the bear and you can be different animals from the story. And act it out. Make it dramatic.
2. Name printing
Teach your child to spell his name. Start with assembling with letter blocks/magnets/letters cutouts. Then practice tracing it on white board and then on paper.
3. Poetry
Google mother goose club poems and read one poem everyday to your child. A nice intro to poetry
4. Phonics
Google lots of phonics activities. Choose what you find the best. I use the flash cards to teach phonics.You can also play Finding activity for teaching phonics. To play this, paste 3-4 small letters on the wall. Give your child a swatter (makhi maarnay wala). You can make the sound aaaaa for 'a' and ask child to swat the aaaaaa. Do one sound a week. Kids learn really quickly. Do it everyday or every other day.
5. Writing.
Do the activities first then use the paper. So do the forming activities first example Letter A. Draw it on a paper. Give your child some manipulatives (some stones? or cardamoms?) Show your child the right direction to form the G.
Do the Tracing activity some other for the letter G. You can add some salt in a tray. And show your child how to make a G in it with finger or a stick.
Finally when he is a little good at forming G then ask him to draw on a white board or black board. And then tracing on paper.
6. Maths
Number recognition activities and number quantity are the very first lessons in Maths. Number recognition from 1-20 takes the longest. So start those first. Many fun activities online. For quantity use things around the house. Start small. Get three oranges. Show your child how to count. In the beginning they count completely wrong. That's okay. Keep practicing with different objects. Shapes basic then some advanced shapes. Teach them sizes (small, medium, large), (Taller/shorter). Find many activities on the internet. Then teach them sorting by colors/types etc. Teach patterns with legos. Then comes measuring toys with manipulatives. There are positional terms to teach as well.
These are some areas that I could write for you. Start with these and keep googling more. I am sorry I am not very good at writing long answers. But I hope you get an idea of how things can work! :)

I wish I would know more about Hyper active kids. My son isn't one!
The least I can tell you is take them out and let them play so they burn their excess energy. After the outdoor activity, bring them home, give them a shower, some snack and then try some sit down activities :) hope this helps!
