@@mcdonalduck Lars has been severely underextimated throughout the years, people always forget Scar Symmetry CHOSE those guys. Roberth's growling is undisputed but Lars' voice is so fitting for Scar Symmetry. I couldn't Imagine Scorched Quadrant without Lars for example. And man, this dude has some stage presence going on xD. BTW following Scar Symmetry, I learnt that the "bad" performances he had early on when on stage were due to their live equipment. One day Per pointed that out and published a live performance on IG with new equipment and he sounded waaaaaaaay better.
@@KhristianBolano He's doing a good job, but still sounds constricted at times, doesn't hold pitch as long as he should and doesn't sing vibratos where they would fit. Those are minor complaints and pretty sure he can easily overcome them all in the future, he already sounds better than he used to
@@SaturnineXTS He can still improve so much but let's be real, even though Alvestam is a great singer, he's mostly a studio singer and couldn't sing that well live. We shouldn't forget the reasons Alvestam was kicked from Scar Symmetry, he didn't care about his live performance at all and intentionally made vocal lines that were far above his live abilities, such as the ones in Prism and Gate. TLDR People always say that Lars sucks because he's no Alvestam, but even though Alvestam is a good singer, he's not Bjorn Strid. Lars improved a lot, Alvestam got kicked out for his attitude instead, so yeah.
@@KhristianBolano Honestly, I haven't seen that much of Alvestam live, so I can't tell if he's as bad as people say. I do enjoy both his growls and his cleans more than I do Strid's though, but I'm very impressed by how much Strid has expanded his singing range over the years
That feeling when Your Uncle TM turns out to be the greatest shredgod in melodeath. My fav Scar Symmetry song so far but I'm only at Holographic Universe so things might change yet
They lowered the key from the recording by a whole step from B to A, and Lars still struggles with the higher notes. The newer material with him on it sounds great cause it’s written for his voice, but dang - they just gotta accept that Lars’s clean vocals are just lower than Christian’s was in 2008. Stuff like Chaosweaver and The Illusionist (outside of the showboating end lol) are fine cause they’re friendlier to baritones to sing, but it is rough hearing Lars try to sing songs like Artificial Sun Projection and this song that are meant for a tenor like Christian. If you’re gonna sing these songs as a baritone, you gotta know your range and make a few changes to the melody line to not go outside your range on the high notes
@@lerta666 no mercy, but no malice with my critique. Lowering it to A puts like 95% of the song in a range that sounds good in your voice. I get a bit worried with the B4’s and C5 high notes in this song, though. Having watched enough game tape of you, I’d suggest that you tend to pinch those high notes off with your tongue going into the back of your throat. Vowel modifications with some of the words will help somewhat - that C5 on the vowel VEE in “revealed now” in the verses comes to mind. Maybe try out “re VAYLd now” so that the AY style vowel keeps your mouth open and jaw relaxed. High notes with the EE vowels are the worst combo a vocalist gets asked to do though 😅 As a fellow baritone, If I were asked to sing this song (and I’ll stick to this key, thanks 😂), the melody changes I would make would be the aforementioned “revealed now” in the verses changed to be an E4 (“re”), G4 (“vee”), A5 (“ald now”). I’d also just skip the high B4 in the vocal run in the word “know” in the phrase “And you’ll know” in the chorus and stay on the A4 from the word “you’ll” in the that phrase as I start the vocal run on the word “know.” Hey, maybe those ideas might help if you’re sick, or a tired voice night, or something and need to make a few changes to get through a pretty rough song to sing haha
