I prefer listening to his father, but Kofi is a class drummer, and should become a much greater name as only beeing Ginger's son.. His book shows that incorporating the left foot within a groove, can be challenging, but opens up a whole level of new possibilities every good drummer should be aware of..

Listening to this, no he's not capable of playing drums on a studio recording - without making the recording a lot worse. His timing and consistency are not up to the job.

I'm a guitarist and have been playing for over twenty years. I've always had a passion to learn the drums and so I bought a roland kit about 2 months ago and I'm happy to say, I play just as good as james 😂
he meant no lars = no metallica as in there would not be any band called metallica without lars. lars is the one that put up the advertisement in the newspaper looking for some bandmates. these guys would have never met and the whole world would probably be a terrible place
@Shallex its true lars doesnt use hi hat but its his style. I bet if he took a month to practice he would get it. That aside i have no doubts that James has more potential as a drummer than Lars 100%. But as it stands Id consider lars better.

And I don't think you understand that his style goes beyond simplistic and that's not a good thing, there are drummers who play simple beats (drummer from Scorpions) but he's like clockwork, never misses a beat. Lars on the other hand is simply a bad drummer, and anyone who creates excuses for him is simply a fanboy. Like seriously: - his beats are the basics of the basics, the first songs I learned on drums were from Metallica exactly because of their lack of difficulty - he frequently loses track of time in a live environment - he can't play his double bass segments properly - he removed his ride cymbal for god's sake, that's not 'style', he replaced it with a loud china cymbal and he covers mistakes up with it - he never uses a drumkit's intricacies, like ghost notes or at least variations in velocity, or like closing and opening the hi-hat He's just bad, I don't know why you're creating excuses. The fact that James, who isn't even a drummer, had drum battles with him is enough of an argument. Don't think that I wanna be an asshole or anything, but being a drummer myself it just frustrates me that Lars is being appreciated for what he shouldn't be, just because he's in a popular band. His drumming straight up sucks, and if he were in a no-name band *_nobody_* would even give him a glance as a drummer. In fact they'd probably attribute the band's lack of success to his drumming, at least partially. You should appreciate Lars' music composition skills instead of his drumming, because he writes a large part of what Metallica is. But drumming-wise? No way, he can't even be called 'decent'.

Lars and Ringo are in the same fraternity. Made it because they helped form a band that blew up for cultural reasons, and talent from other members. In reality, any if the other guys in the band could do what they do, as well as thousands of Joe Public's. Lars had best be grateful for those multi millions

He played drums in a side band back in the day, Cliff was in it too. I forget the name but it was something silly, and silliness was the whole purpose of it, you know, to escape the sometimes stressful life in Metallica.
