Very nice pieces of work. That ear shatterin' ring your getting from the anvil means it is good quality. To muffle the sound many blacksmiths wrap the waist with chains or stick magnets on it. I've found that securing it tight to the anvil block works best. Keep up the good work.
Brother my hats off to you.ive been smithing for over 20 yrs never done one of these thought I'd try.lol I'm missing alot of steps.lol I got it after 1hr of beating then useing a mocked up jig.but I can say this if I ever make another one I will find a way easyer way of doing it.by making a jig.
Can I ask, why did you file down the mouth before continuing to draw it out on the forge? I usually do all my filing after the piece is completely forged and cooled off. Awesome work though, and can't argue with the result!
Do you have provenance of the original artifact on which this is based? I'm no expert on Old Norse culure, but I'm CERTAIN this is not an interpretation of an Old Norse artifact.
That's super nice! I might try one at some point!
Those look great! I'm always amazed what you are able to make out of a piece of rebar.
Thank you!
Awesome work! Definitely gonna give it a try. Just a word of advice, pop a magnet on the body of the anvil to help with the ringing

Is that a hurricane in the background? Sounds like high winds and the shed metal seems to be flopping around. Nice work!

Usually to remove rag so as not to forge a cold shut or wrinkle.
The Viking woman ( Double Bubble ) makes knives & Hatchetts. The Viking Guy makes nipple rings. Make it make sense
