- A brief look into how anvils used to be forged and forge welded by the build-up method.
The anvils pattern is a Southern German pattern with dubble feet and features a supported breast with upsetting block.
Forged together with Jeroen Smit at his workshop. - บันเทิง
The forge welding of several pieces of metal together is just a miracle, it's very interesting to see the anvil being assembled and formed from these pieces.
I am glad you are back I missed seeing you work Thank you
Finally! My favorite blacksmith is posting again!
So glad to see you back Joey! You are one of the main reasons I wanted to get to know forge welding so well. You are the welding pro and you were always open and honest with mistakes so we could all learn. I loved your videos
Couldn't agree more!!! Great to see you again JVDS!!!
I couldn’t agree more tbh, his videos are great 👍
I thought it was a mistake or an old one that came up. So glad your back doing blacksmithing missed your videos for sure.

Welcome back. We missed you very much
Dang glad your back at it . Miss the anvil making
Yes, yes, YES!!! The King of the forge weld is BACK!!! HAPPY DAYS!
Fantastic! Love to see you back at the forge!
I had no idea. I thought the base was cast, and then the face was forge welded on. I never thought you could just build it up in chunks. Super cool video, thanks.
Anvils have been made every which way;
Cast, forged from one piece, forge welded from steel chunks, cast base and steel top.
It is what was easiest to produce to yield the best product for any given place.
me neither! total surprise ...
Thank you, Joey! Pleasure to see you back😊
My life wasn't the same without your videos. Thank You for coming back!
Omg... this was one of the craziest things if watched in a long time! Wow just wow!!
So good you are back at smithing.

You made my day! Joey's back, YIPPEE!
Nice to see you Joey. Great project.
Excited to see a new video! Thanks for uploading.
I as well have missed watching a master at work.
A few years ago you helped me understand this very technique.
Thank you.
I really love the irony in this process of forging the thing you use to do forging
Good to see you back again Sir, you have a great channel for blacksmithing educational programs
We've ALL missed you mate!
AMAZING, can you imagine the trial and error throughout the ages it took blacksmiths to finally perfect this process, and take note of the trust and confidence both smiths have for one another as they pound with hammers in synchronicity. An absolutely beautiful craft, filled with lessons for every aspect of life Thank you poster.
Joey's Back! YAY!!
Glad to see you're still forging! Thanks for the cool video.
Great to see you back Joey.
I'm so thankful to see that...I never thought this could be possible without heavy machinery, You can weld anything my man!!😮...really amazing how easy it seems to watch you do it.
Great to see you back at forging! You really are one of the best smiths showcasing real traditional techniques on youtube.
Awesome video. Glad to see some more blacksmithing content :)
SO INTERESTING! You are preserving nearly forgotten skills. Thank you for sharing.
Huzzah! We missed you and the throat disease that is the Dutch language!
Thank you very much for making this wee video.
Though I have read of fire welding many years ago I have never seen it. This was most illuminating.
Great to have you posting again! I would love to see your old videos back on the channel! I was learning so much from them, and was very bummed when they got taken down.
Joey, thank you for uploading . I’m mesmerized with your work
Good to see you back in your workshop and to have the view in TH-cam. Wish you the best craftsman ship and related earnings.
I had no idea they were made this way at one point. Just incredible, real pieces of art. Thanks for sharing.
Fantastic to see you back♥
I was wondering if we would ever be blessed again with a new video from you. Thank you sir
Amazing job, thanks for the work, not just the hammer beating, but the way You manage to capture and show temperature, tempo, blows. You are good, have fun.
Thank you Joey for taking the time to film this process.
You two have amazing skills!
My new favourite video on the internet. So glad you're back Joey
Absolutely manhandled that huge peice of steel! I’m just starting out and that takes some skill just moving that around. Great job!
Awesome.. First one in a while I seen that was forged together instead of poured..
Thank you for sharing...
Very interesting, sir. I'd no idea how it was done until I saw this. It also demonstrates how critical timing can be, not just with the temperature and working time. It can be uncomfortable and even embarrassing for two tools to come in contact while aiming for the same spot... (I'm terrible, I know.)
I am terrible too because I am laughing.
Steel on steel is ok.
We are not, electricians.
🍻🇨🇦👨🏭
Unless , of course , you enjoy that sort of thing
Thanks for coming back man, and for sharing all this kowledge. thank you thank you thank you!!!
Glad to see your back Joey!

Such a great project, you're into this for so long you clearly know where you're going. Thank for sharing this footage, great content, especially with all the non-sense mistery that orbits around anvils

you kinda started the youtube/blacksmith era......h
looks like i might have about 50 or more, including a few from smedmen/scala college.....h
I’ve seen countless examples of forge Welding in just as many TH-cam videos, and all of them great no doubt.
Especially for someone like me who doesn’t know.
But this video, and the close ups, have got to be THE BEST examples yet.
There’s a couple of scenes in this video where you can literally see the metal is juuuusst below molten and when the 2nd workpiece is added you can literally watch the two pieces flow together as they’re worked.
The best example hands down.
There is one other video of a knife maker forge welding “Damascus” and in one of the scenes in that video you can see the metal “run” when it’s pressed together, but it’s literally a split second long.
In this video you can see it, it’s a much longer cleaner example, and then there are several more.
I would love to see the finished product! Great work 👌👌
Awesome work Joey!
Very interesting, i haven't seen this before.
Fascinating! Thanks a lot for your efforts and education!
Good to see you again.
Very cool! Thanks for the video.
Magnifique travail vous êtes un professionnel du soudage à la forge 👍
Great demo, thanks. Will we get to see the finished product?
Very cool, kids that’s forge welding at its best, awesome video 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
The more you scale this, the harder it gets, I suppose. Now I want to see making a 100lb anvil this way! Thanks for the video, very nice!
Amazing. That’s a lot of welding. Looks like you know how to do it
Very nice video man. Thanks
Always the best at filming hot metal! And nice work too.
That’s amazing! I assumed metal poured into some sort of mold. Great talent you guys have.
Some anvils (current production) *ARE* cast.
