I love two handed weapons and this video has appeared on my main page just after I finished Gothic 2 a couple hours ago haha. I clicked on it because I thought I can learn a thing or two, but it seems I mastered the 2h weapon technique. I knew everything you mentioned here. But it's a very good video, maybe Gothic will get a few more players thanks to it :P
eh that would be great ngl! I'm just happy if people liked the video tbh and congratz! Seems that there are other 2h masters out there xD Question now is: Would YOU be able to share some tricks that I Don't know? That would be dope
@@m4djoker890 I don't think I was doing anything besides what you mentioned tbh. But I was using those things: -If we talk about techniques, my favourite is to hit an enemy before they hit you. Other than that, I use everything you mentioned here. But instead of using Zorro technique, I simply dodge left or right so that my enemy exposes their back once they run past me. - By the way, mid game, Raven's Claw is EXCEPTIONALLY good versus orcs cuz it hits then multiple times with lightning. Golems too! Just saying, but I guess you know that :P - Using the wall technique, where you highlight enemy, strafe behind the wall while holding left mouse button on them, and attacking them like that without taking dmg B). I'm doing this everytime I deal 5dmg to an enemy. Just to make it faster and safer. This here will be mechanic abuse tricks for those that want to have fun after completing the game multiple times, or even just once: - In Jarkendar, you can give Francis his book (Idk how it's called in english) and then knock him out, then take the book from him, give it to him again, and again, and again. Easy money without cheating - In act 3, you can abuse Buster by giving him Shadowbeasts' horns and then knocking him out, taking the horns back and giving them to him again for free gold and experience points - And the last mechanic abuse I've found is that when you kill skeleton mage when he's in midst of casting a spell, you have a chance to bug him so hard, that he will be giving you unlimited runes which are either free money, or free upgrade if you play mage
@@Arantirm Nice Nice stuff, yes. Instead of zorro, doing little curves left or right also work for the same reason, even against enemies who do not do the running attack. Yeah I guess we are kinda even but I think I know a trick you don't, with the most underrated attack move in the game. I just need to find a cool name for it before I spoil and it is kinda difficult to explain with words ^_^
Dude, you're a legend! I myself have always prefered 2h weapons even in gothic 2, even though on paper they seem inferior to 1h, but it just depends on how you play. The sad thing is that regular two-handers don't have that much damage, and I believe the best way to fix that is to join mercenaries, as Bennet teaches crafting really decent 2h weapons that have both the damage and talent bonus, and the endgame 2h weapons have like 40 more damage compared to 1h. And also 2h techniques are so satisfying. You've mentioned most of them, there's just one more that is actually really OP on long 2h weapons and makes the length really count, and that technique is... the running atttack. It turns out npcs are REALLY bad at blocking running attack, and what you can do is get a 120-140 range weapon, run around them in sorta half circle, spamming running attack, turning it towards them just as the hitbox starts, and when the hit connects you turn away and distance yourself for a moment before launching next attack. This way you can spam running attacks one after another and the enemy will hardly block any of them, while you also put enough distance between you so they can't counterattack immediately, especially if they have a short weapon
@@Algirion ahah yeah fun fact i forgot to add this One (i also lack a cool name for It) but i've recently shared It in the official discord :3 About the damage generally you are right about mercs, but you sacrifice range untill endgame weapons sadly. 130 range Is the sweet spot and most of those ore weapons have 110
I always thought 2H weapons were just the best option you could have. Even in G1 it felt like a natural progression going from 1H rookie to Master and then starting 2H to hit those big damage numbers.
All of my Gothic 2 knowledge and gameplay came from watching this guy’s streams, I recommend y’all to eavesdrop sometimes and I assure you won’t regret it. Keep it up mister Jokerino, good work as always 😮💨
It's exactly as you say. Especially the mindset and culture thing. I suspect the Gothic community is fairly old. I started with Gothic I as a 14 yo in 2001. Since the first you grab are 1-handed weapons you grow accustomed to the pretty fast. Then there is this later game upgrade, when you can upgrade to 1,5 handed bastard swords which killed Bidenhänder for me, for years. I played 2-handed for the first time in Gothic II, years later, as I became a bandit in the 2 or third playthrough - because they have these cool looking axes - this later game functionality game for the 2-handers REALLY bite into enemies. Now I am here over 20 years later, with a poor memory and I stopped gaming a long time ago, but there is nothing I wish more to do than to play a 2-handed Paladin now. Great Video, great memory! Thanks.
As someone who has played Gothic 2 and Archolos hundreds of times over half of my life - this is a well made video, I would just add 2 things; The Zorro move can be done with a single more extreme turn to either side, making you still in range with less effort, even if you dodge into the attack it still has s. I nearly always play 2 handed and find myself almost never using side attacks as the first 2 strikes and a short press of the forwards movement key to reset are my bread and butter moves, side attacks are good for keeping monster with a shorter attack range then you away but are terrible for rooting you to the ground and making you take hits you could have dodged out of.
quality content, keep it up! definitely didn't expect that on my timeline, especially in english, haha gotta love 2handers, always preferred them to 1h glad i'm not the only one who does this strafe trick :P
Fun fact is that when you get 64 str in g2notr you can stop giving points on str (it cost 3lp per 1 str) and give all your learning points on alchemy and ancient language (51lp) then use all bonuses from game which makes you reach 160 str in total. In that case you can fight using Dragon Slicer (190 dmg, 160str need) and you have 350 dmg per hit in chapter 2 before even entering Valley of Mine. You just becomes monster which can beat all dragons. Enjoy and gretting from Poland
Those are some great maths! In case you feel like it, it would be cool to have a breakdown about it. I am planning to try the melee only no hit run, which has been done only by a german streamer named Karstix. Thing is, he went for any % so he used bugs and glitches in a non extensive way. I want to do it in an "ethical" way so no bugs no glitches.. I know it sounds wierd when you talk about gothic but it is what it is
Nice video! I will always go 2H on a stength based run. For the simple reasons, that both as a dex and mage char, I'll usually have a 1H as a secondary already, and also because they look way cooler. 2H is arguably definitely weaker than 1H (way faster, and pretty much almost the same damage on hit), but they are IMO also way more fun. Combat is much more tactical. The main way I like to do damage to enemies with a 2H (besides when they strafe) is by punishing their hits. I wait for exactly the time after their hit, and hit back as fast as possible after blocking. This guarantees most hits, since 2H otherwise often struggle with being slow enough for the enemy to easily block. It's especially effective against Skeleton Warrios with two handers, as they usually have the same reach as you do, and are proficient blockers.
@@Maettzle i didnt mention It but yes, generally fighting enemies with 2handers Is easier because of you have good reflexes, you can even interrupt their combo by blocking their First Attack and strike before they start the second One!
Never played anything else than 2handers in gothic. absolute superior. And as you can`t use shilds, i never even thought about using onehander. And, the way the combo works, is just great.
@@craigunshallach4951 i love It too and while from a subjective taste point of view i also prefer them, objectivley we have to be Truth: 1h Is was Better hands down, its Just that on the contrary of what many think, two-handers. Don't suck! ;)
As a kid, I always thought as follows - two hander is to look cool, one-hander is to take care of business. But after playing it 10 times over the years using either magic or one-hander, perhaps when I will play through the trilogy I might try two-hander instead... It never felt right to me because everyone always remarked how skinny the hero is, so I associated him with speed/technique rather than strength... which is silly considering I'd reach 200-300STR. Lovely video, learned some things I didn't know. Happy new year!
Great i'm Happy It was usefull to you! About the skinny Hero that Is true but i think k that armors help with that, since the Better they get the thicker you look!
@@nicoledreamcr4666 can't wait for archolos 2.0, where i learned from the devs that 2h Will have even more benefits! I wrote It in some other comments here if you are interested
I love how you made it work for youself. I might even try it a s a challenge my next playthrough. However. Two handed are still underpowered. Especially for new players who can't really abuse invincibility frames. I think they could work with quite minor changes. They should have slightly bigger range (often the collision size doesn't match which is very frustrating). They should deal more damage (90% of your damage comes from str stat anyway, two handers could do with 2x power buff and still not feel OP). Most importantly they should have their distinct damage type. Which would make them strong against some enemy types (for example heavily armored ones) giving you distinct edge in some situations against others. As it stands rapier, a weapon you can get within first 2h of gameplay outperforms all double handed weapons untill beliar's claw, in which spot 1h version by far outperforms 2h version because you can get way way way more lightning procs because of how fast you swing. And even if you decide not to take beliar's claw, the very best possible two handed sword and this point is a simple two-hander. Which deals 5 more damage than rapier but needs 105 str when rapier needs only 50 dex (amount you can get by putting like 2 levels into dex and getting free bonuses from chapter 1). So unfortunatelly it's not even close.
@@KillmanPit sure, there are so many alternatives that work very well in this broken jank which i love, and ofc noobs Will have a harder time with 2h cus its probably the less intuitive combat style together with crossbow (and needing to figure they scale with Dex xd). Hence the tutorial here, which undoubtly gives a huge hand to whoever just like me didnt have a great experience with combat style, while admitting that even if It didnt work well, It was still cool af!
@@m4djoker890 Agreed there. I really enjoyed the detailed description of invincibility frames and travel distance. Great vid all the way. Kinda sad even with that it's still not enough to make those viable
Some 2H swords have bigger range to the point, you can hit an NPC or a beast while he stays out of his range, thus, making you quite unbeatable in 1v1 scenario.
True, like for example orc elite sword with 140 range does that, but its midway between rng and extreme skills needed, so I didn't feel like adding that one aswell.. It's less consistent imo
@@m4djoker890 There is also one 2H weapon, which is I think bugged and you can buy it quite early on the market in Khorinis after you defeat bandits who stole weapons from weaponsmith. I think it's called Two Handed Long Sword or something and it has the longest range of all weapons, similar to ork ones :)
Excellent video! These are really the best tricks a pro 2 handed swordsman in gothic uses. As much fun as 1 handed weapons are in gothic games and mods, 2 handers offer a generous attack range that helps you avoid most attacks.
While I absolutely agree that G2 100% has the better gameplay, I'd still advise to play the first game first. The atmosphere and the whole premise is way more unique than the second one imo and it certainly feels more rewarding if you actually know all those characters instead of standing there like a dork who doesn’t remember his friends Other than that I never thought that two handed was particularly weak. When I started out I always used 2-handed because of the safety the reach promises. But I always felt rather stationary, I had no idea that you could shorten the dodge like that, that’s pretty amazing!
Funny thing - I never engaged with the broad Gothic community, but in the narrow bubble I've been since I was a kid, everybody always said 2h weapons are king :)
@@uriziel38 looking foward to archolos 2.0 aswell! I can give you some extra information about It: in 2.0, two hander will be buffed with these things: 1) minimal damage Is now 10, 1h still 5. 2) there Is a chance to make the enemy fall on their back, which can be improved with jewelery. 3) 2h Just like now have armor penetration
I didn't know this was like a subject of debate Personally i enjoyed both I replayed Gothics so many times i played all combos USUALLY It came down to 2-h + crossbow 1-h + bow Magic + 2-h 1-h + magic I almost never specialised, there were couple runs where i just put EVERYTHING into strength and 2-h and it was fun but usually i default to versatility in the end BUT some games do have just more fun gameplay with specific weapon types and it's less fault of 2-h being 2-h but more the gameplay around it being made... not as good as other things Or not feeling as fun/good - unmodded Oblivion and unmodded Skyrim were that way for me
Playing archolos with 2H build was a big difference when compared to 1H. Its all about the reach. Just like fencing irl. 1H has a chance against 2H only when shield is added.
Archolos added a few real good mechanics to the 2h style such as armor penetration and generally a better balance within these weapons damage compared to the 1h for sure. My favorite mod when it's about 2h is still Othello tho, where the AOE damage was added and let me tell you, being able to hit multiple enemies while striking with the 2h is in my opinion the best solution.
@@Atok1111 sure i agree thats a common thought if you ask me! Gothic 1 nails atmosphere, originality and story like by far, but gothic 2 does Better everything else!

@@m4djoker890 Yeah, I just always played gothic without a mouse, truth be told. Sure, the turning speed is slightly slower, but I never really minded it. And honestly, Gothic can be comfortably played with one hand if you really want to, which is very, very interesting to me.
@@kompatybilijny9348 and even funnier thing is, that the hand which is being used is the LEFT one! So since that most people use the right hand as main, that means that all that kind of stuff such as drinking eating smoking etc, will have free main hand for it while playing xD
Dark Messiah, Gothic... I'm surprised it took the algorithm this long to recommend me this channel. If you haven't played it, you should try Arx Fatalis as well.
Awesome video! I'm finishing my first Gothic 1 playthrough where I went 2h, despite all advise I've read about 1h superiority. But I wanted to have fun and to do it the way I wanted. Don't regret a bit, but I know Gothic 1 is a lot easier. Can tell just by watching your video. I'll go with two-handers in G2 too. Thanks for your video!
Long time gothic fan and player. Always played with 1h in warrior-style playthroughs. But, when g2 was released on Switch, played as 2h paladin. In my opinion, yes, 2h is strong and even feels better for clearing animals - long range and attacking them when tbeir attack animation starts is way to faceroll win. I could even sometimes don't even look at screen and just attack based n sound and it worked flawlessly. Also, not bad for human / orcs enemies (even though 1h still feels better imo). But, I would say that Claw of Beliar kills it. Both versions are just too strong compare to another melee weapons and 1h is way better then 2h version. So, IMHO, 2h weapons are actually weapons to steamroll early(middle-late part)-mid part of game. In latest chapters, even though you feel OP anyway, 1h feels? better
Personally I love the "cool factor" of using the 2handers. Even if 1h Is superior over all cus of faster strikes and easier Dodge, the 2h feel much more like a Hero weapon of you know what i mean
I never heard that many or tbh one said that 2hand is bad/shitty its just a thing of prefference like Range >/< Speed etc... but granted >50% are probably 1hand users but every mod that is bigger has a 1 and 2 hand trainer, faction, weapons etc so its evidently that its not just like 20% that use 2 hand xD
Good point. I think that these are core aspects of the game. I dont think a lot of % use crossbows, yet they are also in every mod just like swimming diving and idk the woodland berry which has mostly no use what so ever. If you ask me, those are core aspects of the game so it would feel wierd to not have them, even if majority will go with the most popular paths. Interesting point of discussion anyway ^_^
Hello, I am writing a question that has been interesting to me for a long time, I have not completed Gothic 2, but I played it, have you ever tried to skip the first chapter of the plot where you need to choose a faction and immediately proceed to the second chapter? I mean the second chapter where you talk to the main one in the city. I once did this. In short. I completed all the initial missions of all factions, but did not want to choose. So I entered the upper city (using the drawing of weapons) and began to walk there, then I accidentally came across the house of the main one in the city, ALSO entered there (I took out my weapon, but it was difficult so that the fight did not start) and eventually I was able to talk to the person, and after the conversation the second chapter began. I was very scared, I did not want to choose a faction, but in the end I was able to complete chapter 1 without choosing it, by talking to the person who opens much later. I was afraid to continue saving, because I do not know the game, and did not know the main plot points to confidently be able to compare the differences. anyway, do you have any ideas? :) (I completed Gothic 1 with great pleasure)
If I remember correctly, at some point in time this was even part of some speedrunners technique. The game in absence of a guild will treat you as a mercenary, so you can complete the game if I'm not wrong BUT I am not sure that the mercs will recognize you as one of them, therefor you might not be able to get any guild armor, which is bad. Again might be wrong, but in anycase my friend, thanks for the interesting question but how about, and this is just a humble suggestion so hear me out, how about the very first playthrough of yours, you do not break the game and try to complete it as it should? xDD Couldn't be blamed if you haven't realized this but, since you did.. ^_^ Have fun in anycase, the game really deserves your time!
@@m4djoker890 I don't really like choosing sides, I want to watch everything at once, but in the first part I was a mercenary. I can't rob merchants and take all their property anymorem, big downgrade xd but i still try this game. thanks a lot! you help me and now I have one less question tormenting me
as a veteran from gothic II NOTR ( 230 hours ) BTW ITS GOTHIC 2 NIGHT OF THE RAVEN so make sure to point it out since it changes balance of gothic 2, I must say 2h weapons are not good enough. Ammount damage and range you get for less mobility and attack speed does not compensates. Against fast enemies timings are hard with 2h when with 1h you can simply dogde and just spam attacks. But 2h weapons starts to shine at the mid / late game when you get it at least on 60%, have decent armor and strength. In terms of gameplay 1h are way better for player to handle but 2h looks cooler sure but the question is if you really wanna have better gameplay or better feeling from the game
You are right, gothic classic is very different from night of the raven my bad! That said, I agree that 1 h is way easier, But with these tips, even a 2handed run can be extremely enjoyable! The point is, that since many think like you (and like me aswell before I discovered this) being able to play 2h with the right "tools" will really deliver a sensation like you are playing this for the first time. I really reccomend it. I Already did some no deaths with pure 2h and I can almost do a no hit melee only so it is totally doable ;)
@@m4djoker890 dps is still better for 1h, 2h is just harder unless you do those fast spam attacks by breaking animation and only doing upper attack but you can do this with any weapon same as with 1h
@zakkonnik7507 yes 1h Is objectivley Better on all the line and as said, the point of the video Is to show that even with 2h you can have a lot of fun if you know a few extra things! That Is what I'm showing here ^_^
I mean I am normally a firemage but if I play melee it is always 2handed. (I just like big numbers^^) onehanded swords are for early game when you're forging. (although forging makes me irrationally angry as I am German and from Piranha Bytes' hometown Essen. in German, the forge/fire is called "Schmiedefeuer" (forging fire) when the correct term is "Esse". You know just the fucking thing our hometown is named after^^) Later game It's effectively always two handed weapons. especially since starting I believe 50% you automatically level both skills?
And ofc the name had to be "metal hammer" xD Cool backstory btw! You know, to this day, I've streamed sooooo many mods especially lately, that I'm not sure if the double proficiency % is a vanilla thing or not ^_^
You've made your points, but still - one handed weapon is better. Practice shows that is ridiculously hard to face multiple strong enemies such as orcs (which are main enemies alongside lizzardman in the second part of the game) fighting 2 handed weapons. With 1h I can outplay 7-8 orcs in NoTR's 4th chapter without using bonuses for strenght at this point. Try to do this with 2h. Also you can defeat a lot of enemies at lvl 1 with the weakest 1h weapon in the game, which is not mechanically possible with the weakest 2h weapons. I've finished G2 NoTR 20-30 times and couple of times using 2h. Also I am aware of the tricks such as animation cancel. Yet still I always felt much weaker compared to 1h playthrough.
@@dokuadny never claimed that 2h Is Better in the entire video, i claim its not as bad as some Say if you know how to do It. Hopefully this video Will help people to improve their play style
i was kinda filtered by gothic, what playstyle do you think is the most noob friendly? can you be a jack of all trades like in say TES or are you forced to eventually evolve into mage or warrior?
@@tomaszpawlik5091 you sayed gothic so i assume g1 right? in general most noob friendly build Is 1h strenght no doubt, and yes you can do as you want with learning points, Just be sure to invest the First 5 or 6 levels in str 1h
@m4djoker890 well, there are 2 games (at least there should be only 2 games😒) and leveling system is preety much the same, what im asking is if you can make all rounder character or have to specialize
In first game there is a clear progression, start with 1 handed, and in the end either use magic and 1 handed as backup, or go for 2 handed. In OG Gothic 2 and NotR there are books Luthero sells in second chapter that perfectly describe advantages and possible moves with every type of weapon. For me 2 handed is too slow, and 40 extra damage is meh compared to slaughter you can unleash with 100% 1 handed and at least 90+ strength.
What about crossbows? Is it worth splitying the points between 2H and crossbows? Ps.I usually played bows or mage. And I dont want to play it again if it is kinda repeat.
Tricky question. Imo the only real place where a melee player will have some issues is Jharkendars swamp, cus of those flying green exploding s*** xD So if we talk about necessity, you can face tank them and just heal everytime you fight one. If we speak of having a different playthrough and have fun with it, consider that in notr everytime you split your points it's kinda bad generally. End game you shouldn't have an issue but you have to get there first. Imo who wants to try this 2 handed playstyle should just focus on strenght, 2h% and alchemy later on when you have enough plants. Crossbows can be usefull with the magical stone tablets. Also remember that crossbows scale on dexterity and as a 2 hander you wont have much of it
@m4djoker890 Well Crossbow scale with Dex but require STR, that's why I thought about it.And since I 've never fought using either,I just put two questions in one.
They suck because of the delay you have on backstep. It does not matter if weapon/mechanic is mathematically better, especially in single player games, when usage of this particular weapon just sucks.
@@John_Souls i think that i've covered extensivley in the video how to have a good run with a few tricks, perhaps with those in mind you could have a different experience!

Yes I totally agree, originalkly 2h weren't balanced enough compared to 1h thowards the game, hence the need to somehow deeply know the game mechanics so to be able to enjoy also the 2h playstyle.
@@Gi-Go-dst well im starting from the premise that people Who would Watch this already know the downsides.. its more of a tutorial about how to get Better rather than a full review!
Ah yes. Dark Messiah has staves. They are not good. I played through the entire game with a staff. It deals very little damage even though it can hit multiple enemies. That's some freaking high level content for such an old gem. Well said.
Seeing that people likes the video really fills me with joy
Thank you for quality content!
Greetings to all gothic fans that still love this games with burning passion even 20 years later!
Thanks a lot I'm glad you liked the video!
Seems that there are other 2h masters out there xD
Question now is: Would YOU be able to share some tricks that I Don't know? That would be dope
@@m4djoker890 I don't think I was doing anything besides what you mentioned tbh. But I was using those things:
-If we talk about techniques, my favourite is to hit an enemy before they hit you.
Golems too! Just saying, but I guess you know that :P
- Using the wall technique, where you highlight enemy, strafe behind the wall while holding left mouse button on them, and attacking them like that without taking dmg B). I'm doing this everytime I deal 5dmg to an enemy. Just to make it faster and safer.
This here will be mechanic abuse tricks for those that want to have fun after completing the game multiple times, or even just once:
- In Jarkendar, you can give Francis his book (Idk how it's called in english) and then knock him out, then take the book from him, give it to him again, and again, and again. Easy money without cheating
- In act 3, you can abuse Buster by giving him Shadowbeasts' horns and then knocking him out, taking the horns back and giving them to him again for free gold and experience points
- And the last mechanic abuse I've found is that when you kill skeleton mage when he's in midst of casting a spell, you have a chance to bug him so hard, that he will be giving you unlimited runes which are either free money, or free upgrade if you play mage
@@Algirion ahah yeah fun fact i forgot to add this One (i also lack a cool name for It) but i've recently shared It in the official discord :3
About the damage generally you are right about mercs, but you sacrifice range untill endgame weapons sadly. 130 range Is the sweet spot and most of those ore weapons have 110
I always thought 2H weapons were just the best option you could have. Even in G1 it felt like a natural progression going from 1H rookie to Master and then starting 2H to hit those big damage numbers.
In g1 kinda yes but in g2 its different cus you don't need anymore to master 1h to learn 2h, in notr its even harder generally.
I always went 2h first, greatswords are badass
All of my Gothic 2 knowledge and gameplay came from watching this guy’s streams, I recommend y’all to eavesdrop sometimes and I assure you won’t regret it.
Keep it up mister Jokerino, good work as always 😮💨
The "Z-tech" is actually really smart. I gotta use it in my next playthrough
Thanks.
@@LegendOfTheOld Happy to help!
As someone who has played Gothic 2 and Archolos hundreds of times over half of my life - this is a well made video, I would just add 2 things;
The Zorro move can be done with a single more extreme turn to either side, making you still in range with less effort, even if you dodge into the attack it still has s.
I agree, thanks for your feedback!
I was waiting for video like this like 10 years
quality content, keep it up!
definitely didn't expect that on my timeline, especially in english, haha
gotta love 2handers, always preferred them to 1h
glad i'm not the only one who does this strafe trick :P
I know it sounds wierd when you talk about gothic but it is what it is
@@m4djoker890 pretty sure Lord Pappnase has done it now, too
@@Nelsathis I was talking specifically about melee only!
@ Ohh, i see
@@Maettzle lets face It you look so much cooler with the 2handers!

I really like the skillful paladin stance with a one-handed sword
As a kid, I always thought as follows - two hander is to look cool, one-hander is to take care of business. But after playing it 10 times over the years using either magic or one-hander, perhaps when I will play through the trilogy I might try two-hander instead...
It never felt right to me because everyone always remarked how skinny the hero is, so I associated him with speed/technique rather than strength... which is silly considering I'd reach 200-300STR.
Lovely video, learned some things I didn't know. Happy new year!

@@Adrianwoj cocoooo!
As much fun as 1 handed weapons are in gothic games and mods, 2 handers offer a generous attack range that helps you avoid most attacks.
nice tips
While I absolutely agree that G2 100% has the better gameplay, I'd still advise to play the first game first. The atmosphere and the whole premise is way more unique than the second one imo and it certainly feels more rewarding if you actually know all those characters instead of standing there like a dork who doesn’t remember his friends
Other than that I never thought that two handed was particularly weak. When I started out I always used 2-handed because of the safety the reach promises. But I always felt rather stationary, I had no idea that you could shorten the dodge like that, that’s pretty amazing!

2) there Is a chance to make the enemy fall on their back, which can be improved with jewelery.
3) 2h Just like now have armor penetration

I didn't know this was like a subject of debate
Personally i enjoyed both
I replayed Gothics so many times i played all combos
USUALLY
It came down to 2-h + crossbow
1-h + bow
Magic + 2-h
1-h + magic
I almost never specialised, there were couple runs where i just put EVERYTHING into strength and 2-h and it was fun but usually i default to versatility in the end

Archolos added a few real good mechanics to the 2h style such as armor penetration and generally a better balance within these weapons damage compared to the 1h for sure.

(I completed Gothic 1 with great pleasure)
If I remember correctly, at some point in time this was even part of some speedrunners technique. The game in absence of a guild will treat you as a mercenary, so you can complete the game if I'm not wrong BUT I am not sure that the mercs will recognize you as one of them, therefor you might not be able to get any guild armor, which is bad.
Again might be wrong, but in anycase my friend, thanks for the interesting question but how about, and this is just a humble suggestion so hear me out, how about the very first playthrough of yours, you do not break the game and try to complete it as it should? xDD
Couldn't be blamed if you haven't realized this but, since you did.. ^_^
Have fun in anycase, the game really deserves your time!
@@m4djoker890 I don't really like choosing sides, I want to watch everything at once, but in the first part I was a mercenary.

as a veteran from gothic II NOTR ( 230 hours ) BTW ITS GOTHIC 2 NIGHT OF THE RAVEN so make sure to point it out since it changes balance of gothic 2, I must say 2h weapons are not good enough.

Hey, guys, did Gomez knew? What do you think?
bigger is better💪 the biggest is the bestest
In first game there is a clear progression, start with 1 handed, and in the end either use magic and 1 handed as backup, or go for 2 handed.
In OG Gothic 2 and NotR there are books Luthero sells in second chapter that perfectly describe advantages and possible moves with every type of weapon.
For me 2 handed is too slow, and 40 extra damage is meh compared to slaughter you can unleash with 100% 1 handed and at least 90+ strength.
Or just mash action key and forward like a maniac to stunlock the enemies
What about crossbows? Is it worth splitying the points between 2H and crossbows? Ps.I usually played bows or mage. And I dont want to play it again if it is kinda repeat.
Tricky question. Imo the only real place where a melee player will have some issues is Jharkendars swamp, cus of those flying green exploding s*** xD
So if we talk about necessity, you can face tank them and just heal everytime you fight one.

5:17 XD
access violation error and cant patch it do direct 11
2h weaponds looks cool in gothic 2 , but 1h are simple too good , alsow alsow stats on thous weponds are horrble. Early game 2h staffs are good but mid game 2h are horrible bad and late game 2h are simple overkill , 1h are simple toog good and got to few weaknesses, but 2h looks cooler
Yes I totally agree, originalkly 2h weren't balanced enough compared to 1h thowards the game, hence the need to somehow deeply know the game mechanics so to be able to enjoy also the 2h playstyle.
have you tried playing gothic 2 new balance?
@@hitmansuhynastuwe8082 curious you ask. Finished It once time ago, paladin 1h shield and in the next future i Plan to play It again as mage.
they also have better armor penetration allowing you to take on some tough enemies earlier than usual
Yes but thats only on archolos! Sadly g2 didnt have this features, which would have been great tbh
monkaS now thats some high quality jokerino content 😁

@@rkollege8379 heyyyy! Thanks, these videos sure take a lot of time to be made lol
Great video! But you are suragcoating them a lot and it would be fair to explain all the reasons why they suck too.
Maybe I should've played this game on Normal difficulty.
Half-Lives generally have terrible difficulty settings.
I assume the video ended at the preview image. I did not watch the rest of it.
Never start with gothic 2 !
What do you mean? Of course they are better, they do more damage
@@Chrysamer77 unfortunatley no, they arent Better BUT with these tricks anyone can enjoy their full potential!
this video is not real, someone talking about gothic and he is not polish?
Tak!
Gothic1 2handed since uriziel is 2handed
Gothic2 idk BUT if its with expansion 1handed eazy because of beliars sword
Gothic3...honestly who cares
Lol!
Yeah I think I agree, g1 doesn't really matter, combat is as janky as it gets. In g2 its much better honestly, and yeah if you are looking for most efficent melee always go 1h.
Thanks to this common mindset, and thanks to these tips, people hopefully will "re-discover" the pleasure of playing 2h.
I mean whoever still plays Gothic in 2025 already mastered the game most likely, and this possible fresh run I promise will REALLY be enjoyable!
@m4djoker890 ye video is nice i never tought about shortening backstep by moving camera. The problem is that there is not enough good 2handed options along whole game like we have rods sword and rusty axe? Then meaby waterrings stick. I guess you can speedrun it and its not heavy but still
@@ziebus904 I was thinking of another in detail video where I show the weapon progression. After rod sword, best solution is technically typhoon even if it looks bad ik. There is a good path to follow
@m4djoker890 ye the staff from cronos. Long reach light decent dmg and bonus
They do suck lol, in time i hit a mob with 2hander i can do 3hits with 1hander
The best gameplay hands down G3.
FINALLY someone said it :3
@m4djoker890 Finally you can be the bad guy.;)
