Another of my parent's favorites that I heard from birth. Both rhapsodies of Romania are near to heart. #2 is so powerfully romantic, it leaves me a bit devastate because I live alone and no one to share it with, yet its beauty overcomes that aspect.
What a profound piece of music. It may not have the verve and fire of Rhapsody No. 1, but it more than makes up for it with its enormous heart and depth of feeling. After experiencing the main body, we do need some relief at the end. I also loved the penultimate echo from No.1 and the final flute solo. I arrived here after hearing this played on Michael Portillo's TV programme about a train journey through Romania. To my shame I'd never heard of Enescu, but this is a stunningly beau piece of music, so thanks to Mr Portillo for introducing me to it.
I return my Romanian father to the great maternal embrace of the earth with this exquisite piece of music. To call it music isn’t enough, it’s an expression of the divinity of eternity. I followed every sign to find it, and so glad that I did. Rest In Peace, with beauty surrounding you, beloved.
I Love this piece of understated music, it`s divinity is humbling. I can`t get it out of my head each time I hear it, and want to hum it out loud for everyone around to share. (sadly, I couldn't do it justice though)

Should go to Santa Cecilia in Rome, Antonio Pappano put Enescu in his regular program since quite a while; not only the rhapsodies, also the symphonies.
You don't need to understand classical music- you only have to listen and feel. It has many typical Romanian sounds from the folkore - the flute which tries to mimic the long musical peasant instrument "bucium" (try and google it how it sounds). This piece has a very beautiful cultural mix and defines our people and our very rich cultural background and history. In classical touches, it comprises many folklore sounds. It comprises the sadness, the melancholy, the tragedy, the joy of our people. Enjoy it! He is a very understated and under represented composer - I don't understand why. His music can easily compete with all the 20th century grand composers - Shostakovic, Stravinsky, etc.
Si asta, parte din istoria noastra. E de neuitat inceputul programelor la radio- va aduceti aminte? You should also listen to George Enescu's first Romanian Rhapsody (no. 1, this one is no. 2), I recomand you the version conducted by Sergiu Celibidache. I just love it.
I can truly believe that any person from Romania upon hearing this beautiful Rhapsody by Enescu ' would be homesick for the homeland. Magical.

Music is often the refuge of the lonely, but at least we can be certain that we are not alone in our love for it.
I often feel alone in my love for classical music, but we are sharing it here. 😊
Aici, in aceasta capodopera universala, simtim cata dragoste de tara a avut acest minunat Roman !

Absolutely beautiful, so romantic , it makes my heart tremble.
Magnificent and terribly under appreciated composer.

I had the pleasure of mixing the sound for this show and I too had not heard of Enescu, but what a stunningly beautiful piece of music it is.
:D I come here for exactly the same reason! (In Belgium the programme is now aired :) )
I'm exactly the same. I just watched on Iplayer and now I'm here. I love discovering beautiful music that whose existence I had no inkling of.

Patetic mesajul omule.
Enescu e putin cunoscut in Anglia. Ce pacat! Tot timpul asculti Dvorac, Smetana, Rimski Korsakov. Nu Enescu.
E ceva din Dumnezeu. Enescu avea o profunzime aparte .
