  • Sweet flyer! Today we had the chance to fly our new Zodiac CH650 B kit airplane with the brand new 130-hp ULPower engine. This new generation light aircraft powerplant is a direct drive, air cooled four cylinder engine with full FADEC control (electronic ignition, fuel injection, etc.) which is lighter and much more efficient than other engines in its class. On the instrument panel, we're using Dynon's SkyView glass panel display system.
    Next we'll be fine tuning the firewall-forward package and the fiberglass cowl, (and painting it), as well as adding cool striping to the airframe. We'll report on the performance, characteristics and figures shortly.

    Congratulations Zenith! It appears that many Zenith owners and builders are very interested in our line of new engines.

    Cost estimate of this project:
    About $25,000 for the airframe (including options, upholstery, paint)
    About $25,000 for the firewall-forward UL35iS
    About $12,000 for the panel (with dual Dynon SkyViews)
    Total: $62,000

      Don’t like the Y yoke.

    • @zenithac
      @zenithac  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That's why we offer the dual sticks option (with control sticks between the legs). That said, 90% of customers choose the center Y stick.

      Yep, I do like the Y-yoke, as you can rest your arm & just use wrist-fingers to give slight corrections [we have an xMark Quest riding mower & it handles the same way - very user friendly w/ minimal fatigue!]. She’s got sleek lines & for $62K w/ a brand new aircraft, you can’t beat that! KUDOS, Zenith.🇺🇸

      Amazing price for what you get.
      I like the all-metal structure of Zenith aircraft, too.

      +Evo Woods He has flown so many new ones I bet he could land blind folded. Always amazing to see how cool he is when he flies. Like anybody could just plop down and do it. Some day...

    That's a great value considering this is about 1/2 the price being asked for similar SLSA metal low wing "cruisers" with basic equipment. Here you also have an awesome engine and panel!

    We have not had the chance to install and evaluate the Honda Fit based Viking engine so we cannot provide an accurate comparison. We do have a lot of experience with the Jabiru 3300 engine so we do plan to offer comparison figures, and we also look forward to trying out the smaller UL260i engine.
    Which is our first choice and which do we fly behind? Well, we've decided to install the UL350iS in our new demo CH650 airplane and we look forward to flying behind it a lot!

  • @zenithac
    @zenithac  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @PeeTank - There's a standard "push" throttle on the left. Above it is the electric flap switch. To the right of the throttle is the elevator trim.

  • @zenithac
    @zenithac  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @ward1969 we'll be posting details on performance shortly as we put time on the plane. Our initial impression is very positive.
    The CH 650 and the CH 750 have identical firewalls so it will fit the high wing CH 750 with very few changes :)

  • @zenithac
    @zenithac  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Of course, many Zenith CH 650 can be built for considerably less, especially if installing a used Continental O-200 or Lycoming O-235, or a Corvair conversion, and installing a more traditional panel. Of course you can also scratch-build the airframe from just the available drawings (blueprints)

    The canopy seems to make it very hot for the pilot. He have to open it immediately after landing. Any ideas about some kind of shield?

    • @zenithac
      @zenithac  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Easiest shield from the sun is a hat :) We love the visibility from the gorgeous buggle canopy and hate to cover it up.
      Also, we often install a canopy sliding sunshade: th-cam.com/video/VYGwZbpHar0/w-d-xo.html

    Hey, different planes for different folks. Both are beautiful in their own way, especially with UL Power!

  • @kjett73

    115knots TRUE cruise at 75%, or is this at higher power settings?? This is important for me yo know for sure.
    Is this with CS or ground adjustable prop? I am planning my build (CH650B) in the experimental category, and doing some cost calculations and evaluation of the project. Is there any difference in the construction strenght between CH650ei and the B version?

    Hi
    How do the ULPower 260 and 350 engines compare with the Viking 110 and Jabiru 3300 in relation to:
    1 Performance (take off, rate of climb and cruise);
    2 Fuel efficiency (at the same air speeds)
    3 Noise, vibration and refinement
    Which motor is your first choice to fly behind and why?

    is it possible to switch to the duel stick after completing the plane? im looking into learning how to fly and all the costs that come with it and i want to save some money. the Y stick looks like it would be annoying for me but i could get used to it. currently out of all the kit planes iv looked at the ch 750 is what iv settled on if im able to get my sports license

    I really am torn between the 650 and 750. STOL performance isn't of concern to me as I have access to many mid/large runways. The 650 sure is sleek and sexy, while the 750 is practical. Can anyone sway me?

  • @MarcusPfeiffer

    I'm very interested in the 650! Are they manufactured in Midland as well? I'm in Hamilton, Ontario and would benefit from the Canadian location having the 650.

    has there been, or is there a modification to move the throttle control off the console down beside the seat, to a more comfortable position? FYI I'm not a pilot (yet).

    • @zenithac
      @zenithac  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the throttle can be positioned where the builder/pilot wants it.

    Will the 650B with this engine still be qualified for Light Sport or will the performance be boosted too much by the higher HP of the engine?

    • @zenithac

      It's right at the limit (but still meets the LSA definition)

    @zenithairco cool! I want to buy zodiac or stol ch 801 in future if it will be possible.. Will you manufacture a new model in future? If you can do 4 personel capability zodiac version it will be better.
