It's a shame what's industry doing to rappers.
@@Man_eee Well let's see, by then he had beefs with Ja, Game, Fat Joe and Jadakiss. His beef with Ja started way before he got famous. At one point he wanted to squash it but Ja didn't want to. Exactly, this video is going into dramatic detail to make it seem like it was deeper than what it really was. Entertaining for the audience but bs for logical people who just want to trim the fat and heart the straight shooter portion. 80% of this video could have gone into a biography and not been in a versus thing. But I guess you have to bs your way into making something seem extra dramatic to keep noobs entertained.

Not too sure music was changing anyways and many people were getting tired of 50 even with Em And Dre backing 50 50s overconfidence and starting beefs with many people was making people less interested in 50 yeah
When Kanye won this battle , he proved you didn’t have to be a gangsta to rap , this when he kicked the door open for Wiz Khalifa, J .Cole , Kendrick ;Etc
He proved nothing. Eminem was not gangster, Common was not gangster, Heavy-D, Mc Hammer… many not gangster rappers. Rap had morphed into Hip-Hop by the time Kanye came out. Considering he was on a label with gangsters, no one looked at him as the “not gangster rapper.” The “conscience rap” era is what brought “not gangster rap” music out more. Kanye put out great singles. He made great music. But the title alone “College Drop-Out” was not relatable to most black people who were into rap. So it had to be his talent musically. The best, productions, and lastly his vocals. He was not like a Mac Miller style rapper who had no ties to gangs, selling drugs, or violence. He was very associated with the gangster rap culture. Snoop help Wiz because of the style and marijuana life. J. Cole made himself because he was already known as one of the best underground and ghost writers around. Lupe Fiasco helped J. Cole become more accepted as an artist. Kendrick is 100% a gangster rapper first. No one is like Kanye, he was a producer first. Him “winning” that battle was forgetting about within that month.
Another GREAT Video💯 🔥50 definitely was going against his Label and Jay Z/Def Jam...To me there was no other artist that could compete with 50 besides Kanye or Jay Z as far as music success and 50 was battling both at the same time because Jigga was definitely behind the scenes battling 50...I can't wait to see that 50 Cent vs Jay Z video
This was a dope one!! Always in depth and can tell a lot of homework was done on your videos!!! I remember going to the music store on my lunch and buying both albums. Graduation is still my favorite album from Kanye
Well thank God someone finally covers this nowadays. I feel as though 50 Cent fans constantly sweep this battle under the rug like it never existed when this battle was sooo monumental for hip hop culture.
Got both albums... he'll I got all their albums.. but being from the the Chi and when Ye ain't wigging out I'm riding with em both! Hope to see more music with em both..
was just watching Kanye on that British TV show where they mention his release date being the same as 50s and I wondered the full story around it and saw this just dropped. such a good video 🐐
50 would’ve been to dangerous to the industry if he stayed being the top artist. He mentioned in later interviews that interscope had copies of his music so to 50 it was obvious where the leak came from. Also at the time 50 only had one more album left in his contact. in my opinion I think that they wanted to devalue him so the renegotiation of his contract would’ve been less. if 50 was consistently doing more than 5 million on the four albums he had with interscope they would’ve had to pay an insane amount for him to resign( think of when rocafella was in that same position after the blueprint dropped. that deal alone saw jay go from 50-80 mill to hundreds of millions). I think that’s the reason why 50 took it so personally because he deserves certain accolades but knows he was sabotaged. His career would’ve been what dreams are made of especially for what he’s been doing after music
also think about it, before I self destruct came with a movie & flopped. How do you go diamond twice, sell 3 mill on the third & flopp on the fourth. it makes no sense
Really good video, man. Well done. I think you missed how 50 tried to say he technically didn't lose because he sold more globally, and ended up winning the World Music Award that year for most internationally sold albums. Regardless, been following you since the jump and glad that you're back. Still waiting on that Doctors Advocate documentary.
50 lost to Kanye in four different ways with Kanyes album beat 50s album in terms of nation wide sales, critical acclaim, fan reception, and rating score yeah.
@@matthewmann8969 yeah even I heard the rumors that 50's album sold more internationally at the time. But the natural perception is that 50 lost because they focused on the first week sales in United States, which is what people cared more about as 50 was always known for his high first week sales in US.
So did Kanye and Kanye got 50 with those light jab disses like "I really like 50 I dont want him to retire after my album sells the most" as well as "50 please dont retire after my album outsells yours please" yeah.
You got to remember, 50 had a lot more "haters" than Kanye, so when they heard 50 will stop making music if he loses you know they all went out and bought Kanyes album just for that fact.
Mannn, didn’t you say on your last podcast that the 50 & Jay video would be out the same day?! Either way I appreciate the work that goes into these videos, can’t wait for season 2 of the podcast my brother

Thanks for making this video. I was only 10 at the time of this competition. I remember purchasing the Curtis album on release day & a week later purchasing Graduation. Both great albums. 50 Cent is indeed my favorite rapper of all time.
I remember thinking 50 would win as 50 was unbeatable and even got Curtis and was shock that people said that. Lost even though he sold more worldwide it changed rap forever and I stopped listening to rap until 2009
Lol. I too thought 50 was gonna win. At the time, he was the hit maker and I Get Money and Ayo Technology were my favorite songs on radio. I was shocked to hear that his album sold 300K less than Kanye's. People switched on 50 real quick lol
@@dwaynejpeterkin I feel like that battle stunted 50's growth in the worst way possible. If 50 had avoided Kanye during that time, he'd probably still be musically relevant in some shape or form.
MAYBE if 50 would go with "The Massacre" it could've been a more fair battle. Graduation is simply one of the best albums oat, personally my favorite Kanye album
if it was The Massacre vs Graduation it won’t even be a battle lol 2005 50 CENT was the biggest nigga on planet Earth 🌏 he sold 1.14 million in 4 days LOL 🤷🏽♂️⚡️

Amazing video as always man. But you should`ve mentioned that Dr. Dre and Eminem were going through extremely rough times with both of them losing someone close to them. Dre lost his son and Em lost his best friend so they both couldn't contribute as much to the album as they did previously. That`s one of the reasons 50 is the executive producer and not Em and Dre cause they wasn't capable atm
Em has drugs issues/Proof passing Away. Dre's Son Passed Away in 2008 Dre Has no Excuse for not supporting 50 Besides the fact that he was working on Detox And Plus Dre Played A Major Role behind "Curtis" He produced "Come & Go" "Straight to the Bank" and "Fire" And Also Mixed The songs that he produced and "Amusement Park"
Man this was hiphop. This battle got me so excited. If 50 cent didn’t have all these issues I wonder how it would of went. We can’t use that excuse because this is how it went. Shit happens! Both albums were great!
To me the leaks were so bad to 50, I rem those days when everyone would be on album leaks. That alone must have taken off thousands of sales off his album! I got mad respect for 50 man, I've never seen anything as big as what he did between 2002 - 2005
6:18 Amusment Park was the first single off of the Curtis album and Straight To The Bank was the second. Amusment Park was released on May 8 & Straight To The Bank was released on June 29. Also Jay-Z featured on the I Get Money Remix, Jay-Z said 50 Cent called him to ask for the remix and Jay-Z told him he couldn’t put the remix out until the first week came as Jay-Z didn’t want it to affect any type of numbers. So it came out the 17th of September and yes drop the video for 50 Cent vs Jay-Z
You're looking at Wikipedia data based off the dates you put for releases and those are wrong. Wikipedia dates are just dates of when singles were pushed to radio first, if you Google search those 50 Cent singles and put the time frame from April 2007 till May 2007 you'll see 50 Cent premiered Straight to the Bank on Funkmaster Flex's show on Hot 97 in early April. Also, he premiered both the music videos at the same time towards Mid-May. As far as the Jay-Z I Get Money Remix thing, I didn't really care to put that in as it had more to do with 50 vs Jay-Z which will be on the next video ;)
Bruhhh I dunno why so many dunces liked this comment cuz they sheep, but unless you were very, very young, it's well known that Straight to the Bank was the first single off Curtis and came before Amusement Park. That's like saying I Get Money came out after Ayo Technology even though it's vice versa.
@@bradlee5874 It was a long time ago so whether you were young or not everyone's not going to remember everything. Huge nostalgia vibes. I hope the views and the likes continue to grow because this retrospective was amazing. While I still listen to Graduation regularly, I haven’t played a 50 album in quite some time. I actually went back and listened to Curtis after watching this and it is definitely better than I remember it being.
I got too much respect for 50 CENT, he is a strong guy, he had the entire industry against him and he was brave to battle every one without fear. He battle Ja Rule, The Game, Fat Joe, Jadakiss (The Lox), Kanye in a sale battle and his record Label wasn’t helping. It was a beautiful moment in Hip-pop music and I honestly wish we can get those days back in hip_pop.

It's really weird hearing 'September 11th' mentioned so much in a vid and it not being related to that awful tragedy that day in 2001..I'm not even American so it just goes to show ya that even without the 'never forget' expression that often gets pit alongside it, that awful day will (rightly) never be forgotten. One of those kinda tragedies that everyone seems to remember where they were that day. Sorry for going a little off topic it's good to have ya back, Quake. Blessings to everyone.🙏 Edit-- Lol...the Madison square garden show 😅🤣...Fiddy certainly turned it into an all-star cast! Love him or loathe him he's savagery personified!
Its not uncommon for artist to release of that day, outside of that tragedy alot of hip hop artist like sept 11 for a release date...fun fact its also my brother's bday
When you think about it, Kanye is KINDA going through a bit of what 50 went through. Donda leaked including the fact that Drake leaked Life of the Party that Kanye played in Las Vegas listening event. History repeating itself.
Not really because Kanye's core fanbase is simply too large now and been around too long for him to ever 'fall off'. Plus the quality is still there, whereas 50's music had a dip in quality around Curtis (probably due to the fact that his label killed his motivation).
Say it louder for the 50 stans who can’t accept the fact that for the first time in a competitive matchup he didn’t win.. with that being said, Curtis was still a solid album (it had a few skipable songs imo) but Graduation was clearly the better album
@@Jon804Official yeah I liked both cds so it was a win/win for me but like you said, Graduation was the better album. In my opinion, 50’s best album was Get Rich or Die Trying.
That and 50 also was having many people dissing him like The Game, Jadakiss, Styles P, Sheek Louch, Fat Joe, Rick Ross, Camron, Nas, Gza, and many more that also played a part Kanye beating 50 just made things even worse for 50 yeah.
@@matthewmann8969 take away The Game & GZA... and ask yourself why exactly were they dissing 50, was it because they threw a shot at 50 or did 50 throw the first Jabs at them & they were just defending themselves ? (also Ross wasnt beefing with 50 during this time)
@WOLFdeez 420R 50 is still a good artist not gonna lie but he is not the same 50 he was when he came out with his first few albums. That’s when I was a big 50 fan and I was bumping him G-Unit and Games music all the time then he had that game Bulletproof on the original Xbox and I played that all the time and I wore G-Unit clothes too. All the stuff I’m bringing up is because in those times that’s when he was hot and killing it and it seemed like he was the boogie man of the Hip-hop industry because he was beefing with so many artists and had Dre and Eminem in his corner (plus the Unit I almost forgot lol) but I still fuck with 50 a little bit I follow him on IG and everything. I just don’t think he’ll never be as big as he was before because of all these newer artist and cause of the fact music is changing so damn much and people are now listening to all this mumble rap crap.
Kanye vs 50 Years later.... Kanye vs drake . That's how you know Kanye west is good. He may not beat clb numbers, but album creative wise, he hasn't lost it.
50 was literally untouchable back then. and everybody was jealous. as simple as that. one on one it was nearly impossible to take him down so they all got together and ganged up on him. and the only reason he lost to Kanye is coz he's not an ass kisser, he's a stand-up guy. and between 2002 to 2007 he was the biggest hip-hop artist in the whole world. even bigger than Eminem and Jay Z (street credit-wise not sales-wise). and in his own words "big brother ain't no competition for him".
50 lost to Kanye for a combination or reasons yeah. 1. His music was becoming stale and repetitive. 2. 50 was beefing with many people many of them he started himself aside from Game, Cassidy, And Gza. 3. Kanye was the one to bring up to have a sales battle so Kanye is the one who started this "beef". 4. Em, Dre, And Iovine the former one had Proof die and was depressed and distracted and Dre was busy working with other artists and 50 tried to go against Iovines other artists and 50 was calling himself the boss of Interscope which he was not that title goes to Jimmy Iovine yeah.
I know your podcast is the way to go, and I wish you well and I will always watch, but these older style videos will always hit and we all would love them. Keep doing you brother
From what I'm seeing here if 50s album was supported like Kanyes I think he might have won this, Jay made some power moves for Ye . And now I finally understand why 50 been against Jimmy
Don't forget. It's not just Interscope. Practically the whole INDUSTRY was against 50 because of his beefs. As a result, fans of Fat Joe, The Game, The LOX, Nas, Cassidy, etc. were not gonna support him regardless.

this hip hop event is pretty much how i consider it "the end of the old school era and the rise of today's new school era" since most of the rappers that blew up after kanye outsold 50 cent (ex. drake, azealia banks, mac miller, tyler the creator, childish gambino, travis scott, die antwoord, hopsin, brockhampton, etc) are still super relevant up to this day while gangsta rap hasn't recovered from it. which is something i didn't liked back then and still don't but eh, it is what it is.
When you really think about. 50 Cent was the Kratos (God of War) for hip hop at the time destroying Zeus (Murder Inc) and his brothers and sisters with ease. A mortal defeating gods who would've thought that would ever happen but it did and that's the beauty of it! An empire falling to the hands of one man.

Ayo Technology was originally titled Ayo Pornography then renamed to Ayo Technology then changed to She Wants it and then finally changed back to Ayo Technology. The title being changed was a request from the label. Also 50 Cent told MTV News that the beat for Ayo Technology was actually for Justin Timberlake. When Kanye won this battle , he proved you didn’t have to be a gangsta to rap , this when he kicked the door open for Wiz Khalifa, J .Cole , Kendrick ;Etc
True that Kanye West a G.O.A.T.
This low-key changed the direction of rap music.
That and Curtis was not that good of an album.

I remember being grade 7 and half the kids had graduation the other half had curtis they really schemed us into buying these lol
If 50 released his album Curtis in June maybe he would still have a rap career
Great video as always. I bought Curtis during that week and was never a Kanye fan. I think 50 would’ve won if the album didn’t leak, I do remember listening to the clean version at a party weeks before the album came out so 700k is great with those circumstances.
Yea but that Curtis album didnt hold up, i loved fif i was 19 at the time and couldnt help but feel disappointed in the album
keep it real bruh. Curtis was a trash album and easily one of 50's worst albums. Graduation was by far the better quality album and easily a 8 or 9/10 , music wise
@@eyecontrol4900 that’s true, Curtis was 50’s worst album but I’m not a fan of Kanye and never liked his music so I still rather listen to it all day than any Kanye album
Kanye's CD was much better.
Kanye consistently gets his flowers but I Wanna acknowledge that "Curtis" was a great album, it was raw, passionate and aggressive
No he doesn't he is hated on cause he tired of the demons
this hip hop event is pretty much how i consider it "the end of the old school era and the rise of today's new school era" since most of the rappers that blew up after kanye outsold 50 cent (ex. drake, azealia banks, mac miller, tyler the creator, childish gambino, travis scott, die antwoord, hopsin, brockhampton, etc) are still super relevant up to this day while gangsta rap hasn't recovered from it. which is something i didn't liked back then and still don't but eh, it is what it is.
I’m that kidd that was downloading every music I could on Lime-wire & some of the songs ended up being a Soulja boy Beats/Songs it fucked up my computer it was worth it tho
I got something to add. I vividly remember going to Kmart on Sept 11 hysterical to get them both I ran to the back and their was a big Kanye Billboard cardboard thing that like 200 CDs in it and I'm looking around scanning the place no 50 in sight . I broke out in tears after asking for help their it was one Curtis CD in the hole store my ten year old azz was. Like its rigged right then there new lol. Curtis is my favorite album of my childhood. I just heard Jesus lord off of Donda this is Kanye best work that never would have got if the battle didn't happen. Thanks for the video
Maybe all of the Curtis CDs were sold out?
Yessss you back again with these mini documentaries!! 💯💯💪🏾
I was in my last year of middle school when this happen I remember this , everybody was jamming Wayne , some people liked this battle but in my school it was all Wayne boosie, and Gucci mane !! But I am from the south , I wasn’t into rap like that but I like this entertainment when it was out, I thought 50 was going to win
You should definitely post more videos like this on here. These videos are very interesting and entertaining.
Damn Kanye really proved everyone wrong. Classic album too.
Yeah 50 got 2. Kanye has way more then 2.
Please keep this series coming there is so many more beefs you can cover
He’s been covering a lot
Ayo Technology was originally titled Ayo Pornography then renamed to Ayo Technology then changed to She Wants it and then finally changed back to Ayo Technology. The title being changed was a request from the label. Also 50 Cent told MTV News that the beat for Ayo Technology was actually for Justin Timberlake. It was something Timbaland had on the side and he gave it to 50 Cent
Shoutout to both very Successful Black Artist and Entrepreneurs/Business Men🙌🏾!!
Just take a look on how Fifty his killing it on tv shows and he his going to star on the new expendables oh you didn’t know lol check it out. He his still dominating. It won’t be long before he would dominate Hollywood like he did hip hop lol this dude is fantastic.
50 always been a boss no doubts
@@ntuarabrian948 Yeah he is doing what Ll Cool J does once Ll was done with music mostly Ll went on with acting in movies, television shows, and web series yeah
Drop That 50 Vs Jay!! Yo Videos Like This The Coldest Bro 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 i salute the podcast 🫡, but these & “who really won” is 🔥🔥🔥
It’s weird how Kanye seemed to have the more normal album rollout, and 50 made current day Kanye West look like an amateur.
Can you explain please? I'm not spending much time nor focus on west as much so I don't really know what happened
@@benanjerris6744 the rollout for Kanye’s recent album has been a clusterfuck. It was supposed to come out July 2020 then July 2021. Then around 3 weeks back his label said fuck it and released it on a Sunday morning
@@juliansutton5819 damn that's deadass messed up
@@benanjerris6744 Kanye rollouts become weirder every album
Kanyes first three consecutive albums were all consistent and aged better then 50s first three consecutive albums yeah
thats a lot of work men we appreciate you
