- 💪🎉 It's here! 🎉💪 I think the Exposure Triangle is the most important thing for any photographer to know, like and trust. If you haven't a clue what controls the light getting into your camera and onto your photo's, or a lack thereof, this video will rectify that... The Exposure Triangle Explained is right here, right now.
I'm not going to lie this was a tough one to explain without seeing my visual aids!

I’m new to photography and have no idea what I’m doing so I’ve watched hundreds of videos and this was by far the most helpful video on this topic that I’ve watched. Thank you!!!
Awwww thank you for such kind words, I am glad you have found this the most valuable video on this topic 🤓
I've paid for several classes and have watched tons of TH-cam videos. I've never understood the triangle like I do now. Thank you for doing what you do 🥺🥺🥺🥺
wow! great feedback, thank you so much 🙏 so pleased you're getting so much from the videos and thank you for your support 😊
I’ve tried to understand this before, but this video is so clear! Thank you ☺️
Amazing explanation! Loved the bit about the hand shaking/vibratios I didn't know that!!
Your literally turning me into the best photographer thank you so much
Thank you for the kind words and I am glad you find our content useful 🤓
Best explanation of the exposure triangle I've ever seen. Shows how what you prioritise changes, according to what you're photographing/what effect you want. Thanks Jess 😁
Glad it helped you!
Loved the video really helped me understand these three key points to photography
Great news!
Just came across your channel, good stuff! One thing (might be considered a nit)... but Increasing the ISO doesn’t actually increase the sensitivity of the camera’s sensor. It increases the amplification of the sensor’s output signal. Of course this amplifies all the noise as well. Still, spot on!
Thanks for the info!
Just found your channel and I appreciate the content you provide, great detail and easy to understand
Great news Zach! Hopefully my videos can help in the future 😊
Thank u so much , really appreciate ur videos.
Glad you like them!
I just learned more in 10-minutes than from those 3-hour tutorials lol. Awesome video!
Glad I could help!
My new favourite youtuber - I am new to the photography game but love your style - could listen to you all day
thank you so much 🙏 such great feedback, so glad you've found us 😊
Thank you so much for all of your videos! I've already improved by quite a lot and I'm continuing on this road, thanks to you :D
Keep it up Florence - well done!
Thank you for such a detailed video, hopefully this gives me the confidence I need to get out of auto mode!
You can do it! Good luck!
I’m dyslexic and this is the best explanation of the exposure triangle I’ve watched. Thank you
I'm glad it helped you ☺
Watched this one and made lots of notes 📝
Wonderfully explained. Thanks
You are welcome ☺😀
Wow this is really helpful. You teach me more than my photography teacher. I am so lucky you decide to help us :)
Happy to help!
I love your videos!!!!
Thank you!
Great explanation. Thank you 👏
Glad you found it useful 🙏
This helped sooo much! Like it‘s not that I haven‘t been trying to get a hang of all on this info but it was just too complicated. I love taking action shots that‘s what I‘ve been doing for most of my „sessions“ but recently I kinda got pushed towards „artsy“ portraits and it I could just get onw or two pictures that were absolutely cool - but they were lucky accidents. Can‘t wait to put all of this info to good use. ❤️
Practice makes perfect so just keep on going, you'll get there!
Love your videos! A great help for me as a beginner 🥰🥰
Fab news! welcome to the gang 🥰
Finally a simple to the point explanation!!! Thank you! All other videos I have watched over complicate it!
So glad this helped you!
Love how you explain things!!! Good job, just found your channel today
Thank you so much.. this is like the best explanation ever. I finally understand how these things correlate :)
Aww thanks so much! Glad it helped you out!
You're absolutely appreciated for making this! I just love your videos, they are extremely informative and full of useful info yet easy to understand for the beginner photographer. Can't wait to have a play around with my new Canon 7D again! Thank you!!
Hey Laura, so glad this was useful for you! The exposure triangle is so hard to explain when it's been in your head for years 😂I should probably have planned this video a bit more! Hope you could still follow along 🙏
Well I think you done a fab job of it! Very well explained and presented!@@ThatPhotographySpot Can't wait to have a watch through your other videos!
Absolutely a brilliant explanation. Now it makes sense 🤦🏽. Is it possible to get a link to the slides. Would love to have them on the wall, for my bad memory 🙄🤔
I'm afraid no link to the slides but thank you so much for your kind words 🙏
Thank you so much for this. So important and hugely helpful!!! Carrier pigeon on its way..
Glad it was helpful!
omg you're amazing thank you so so much you have really helped!
You are so welcome!
Well explained 👌
Thank you 🙏
Really great video👍🏻 even though ive already gone through this multiple times, i always forget how it works, this is a very understandable video, thx again
Glad it helped!
Wow, english is not my main language and i unterstood this explanation really well :) THanks
Never heard of the triangle before. Its interesting that my X-T2 is set like the triangle. ISO dial on the left, SS on the right, and the Aperture on the lens. It makes your video very easy for me to understand and apply when I go to shoot this evening. SO glad I found your channel!
So helpful thankyou love your videos💕
Glad you like them!
Please can you share the 3 different diagrams aperture, shutter speed and iso
Gosh, you're so knowledgable
Thank you 🙏
I have an old cannon camera thats sort of past it’s days, but I had a go with it at some action. It’s at max ss and I have decent settings but it’s just not getting what I want. Is it just the age of the camera or am I doing something wrong?
Have a look at other action photography videos on the channel - they might help!
Do you have copies of the Aperture (f stop) Graph, Shutter Speed Graph and the ISO Graph I could print out and use
I am still on auto lol❕ I want to get better on my animals. Thank you SO much. 💜
Thank you Lisa! 🥰
If you want to shoot action with a wide aperture to blur the background check if your camera has an option to set minimum shutter speed. Then you can shoot in aperture priority mode with confidence that you're not going to get motion blur.
Thank you for your very clear explaination. If you have the time, can you explain how to create a beautiful bokeh effect, or maybe do a video on this topic. The bokeh in your images is so nice!
If you look at the portrait video on the channel, it covers this 😊
@@ThatPhotographySpot Thank you! I did not watch that video yet😊
Where do I find those cheat sheets for iso, aperture and iso? I’m an hobbyist looking to make photography a side hustle. Especially, now that I’m aware it’s competitive market.👍🏿🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲
hi, no cheat sheets as such to access as the items that are being referred to were created solely for this video 😊
I have started improving a lot by taking photos of my labrador from your vedios. However if by any chance i can get a review on any of my photos to improve. It will be very helpful . My gear is Canon M50 with a 50mm f1.8 stm
Well done!
I cannot believe, that you only have 15 k subs. What a shame. Gonna make another YT acount and sub a second time :D
If everyone had this amazing idea we could literally take over the world!!
do i have to change these things actively when taking pictures or am i good to keep it at 1 setting if im taking the same thing over and over
Only if the light is the same brightness every single time you shoot what you shoot. If it's not then yes, you'll need to learn what these settings do in relation to your exposure.
I use the 135mm F2 lens. Would you say for action shots, I should be going to 1/5000 or 1/2000 shutter speed?
1/2000 should be fine 🤓
Is there any way to do this on a phone? because I love photography, but am still a kid and I dont have the budget for a 1500$ camera
Not really, but cameras do not need to be $1500 - you can pick up a starter kit for £200 if you look hard. It won't be perfect, but it's far better than a phone!
most landscape photographers wouldnt really venture past F11 because of the dreaded diffraction issues , and they would also stack the images to ensure sharpness back to front
Carrier pigeon sent
😂
Is this where you post things if you do not understand, request a reply?
I’m still so confused watched this 3 times and other videos, need to understand how to use manual mode and understand the settings like Aperture, and shutter.
I am the official 4tographer in my scl but I’m using auto mode yet 😂💔 yah,it’s funny but it’s embarrassing 😒💔
Exposure is light on the sensor iso is not part of it. You use it to compute the exposure you want with the light input, so you have 4 parameters to deal with. This triangle kills me😤
Well, yes. It's a digital adjustment whereby the only sensitivity the camera has is its base *native* ISO. Any ISO value higher than the base (lowest) native ISO value is a digital amplification of the sensor. Basically, if your camera's native base ISO is 100 and you take a picture at say f/2.8, 1/1250, ISO 400, your camera will take the picture at ISO 100, underexposing the sensor, then digitally amplify the signal to the desired exposure at ISO 400. Essentially, ISO is how brightly the camera renders your chosen combination of Aperture and Shutter Speed exposure values.
However, you can see how this would make any beginner glaze over and want to run for the hills if given that super technical explanation. So to have beginners understand ISO in a way that they can sort of get the gist of what it's doing to use it correctly, it's just easier to say that ISO is the camera's sensitivity to light, though that's not quite accurate. The net result is the same and the typical explanation still gets newbies hitting the ground running with an idea of how to use it.
