My toilet was caught in a drive-by and, while the toilet itself was not hit, the instructions were riddled with bullet holes and rendered useless. So thankful to have this video.
It's just me and my kids here and I'm disabled and was so sure I would have to wait months for someone to help me but today I got tired of it and decided I'm putting it in. I opened the box and my instructions (that were inside of a Ziploc bag) got soaked from it being outside the day it rained. I found this video so helpful considering I forgot how to install one! Thank you!
I'm about to do it myself! I've done so many "manly" tasks like replace sinks, install flooring, fix pipes, etc. And I'm about as feminine as you can get. Dresses, make-up, jewelry, hair done every time I step outside my house. The stereotype of the "butch woman" doing things like this is so outdated.
It’s pretty simple I would recommend using a rubber wax ring like a danco rubber wax ring if you feel you won’t get the bolts to like up first try so you can reseat it without having to purchase a new wax ring. Also using the plastic washer on the bottom of the flange part will help keep the bolts in place which should help lining them up. And go easy on the tightness enough so it doesn’t move side to side but it’s porcelain so be careful or you can crack it.
Excellent presentation, easy to follow. Just watched Home Depot DIY Toilet Install live, they never stopped running their mouths and acting like they were a TV sitcom. You are professional and provide easy to follow instructions. Emanuel Hairston & Ron George detract from doing a DIY project and use up too much time. I'm sure they can be more helpful doing something else besides video.
I am 70 and have been installing toilets for half a century. Let’s get a few things straight. Re caulking: Yes and no. There is nothing wrong with caulking, but always leave a section, at the back of the toilet, uncaulked. If there is a seal leak you want the water to appear on the floor as soon as possible to alert you. A fully caulked toilet can send leaking water into the basement or crawl space - or to the ceiling of the room below if the toilet is on an upper floor. In most cases the supply line should NOT be reused as the seals will have hardened and failed. Do not use plumber’s tape on the connections. Also, if the new toilet is higher the line will be too short. An old trick is to buy a line that is longer than needed and loop it to make stress-free connections at both ends. A small towel works better than a sponge for removing residual water from the tank of the old toilet. If your water valve has not been operated for years it could well leak at the stem or fail to fully shut off. If it leaks at the stem you will need a new one; if it won’t shut off you can get away with turning off the home’s main shutoff valve. The old toilet will have water in its trap, so remove it by repeatedly cramming a small towel into the bowl and wringing it out. Assembled toilets are heavy, so disassemble tank and bowl before moving the pieces. What to do if the tank bolts are rusted? Cover the tank with a heavy blanket and rap it with a hammer. Put the pieces in a box or plastic tote. And, duh, protect eyes and hands. Have a towel on the floor when you move the bowl, as there still might be residual water in the trap. And, yes, it should not take “a few hours” to install the new toilet. Counting removing the old one, though, it could take an hour or two.
Just did this install for the Home Depot Toilet, and did a combination of the Video and Install manual was easy and bathroom looks new again, thank you :)
"just a few hours"? I hope that includes the trip to the store to buy it! Other than that a decent video. It's not hard as long as the original install wasn't shoddy. : )
I'm going 2nd day haha, new toilet in my shop/man cave. Why waste a weekend by rushing through the job. If I get the shitter installed by Sunday evening, we'll, that's a wrap. Another weekend spent hanging out in the man cave listening to music and stuff.

The water saver toilets do not save you on your water bill. I bought one. It looked nice installed in my bathroom that I remodeled. Accounts for maybe 10% of all installs.

Very helpful vid. Thank you HD
The toilet I got from home depot says it takes 10 minutes to install. Now, the video from Home Depot says a couple of hours. I HAVE BEEN DECEIVED.

Don't put wax ring on toilet, put it on the flange and drop toilet on top.
Exactly my thoughts....who tf lays toilet on the side like that?? First time I see this...
Gently press down? Somebody's 300lb cheeks are about to destroy that gentle press.

Do you need to shut off the main line?
no

If you paid attention to the video they said why you should t do that congratulations 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 you can't understand the video your watching.
Annnnnd if there IS a leak?
Unfortunately you’ll need a new wax seal
Depends what is leaking when you connect the hose to the shutt off valve , circle threads with plumbing tape.

No
You have to turn off the valve next to the toilet, but you should be fine leaving the main valve on.

How do I get the water out my current toilet lol
Turn off the water supply and flush. It won’t refill.
There may be residual water in the bottom of the tank. That can easily be removed with a sponge and a bowl.
Turn off the water supply and hold down the flush until completely drained disconnect the line afterwards
Just drink it works good

If this takes you multiple hours, something wrong with you
Don't forget to silicone around the base and nor to sit on it till the silicone dries

Why would you silicone it?
Not a great idea . The reason is you have a leak, you won't able to see it. Overtime these leaks can ruin depends on type of floor.
