Each June I spend a week above 10,000 ft in Colorado. This year I brought the Scorpion 3 after seeing your review. and was VERY impressed. It handled rain/Severe thunderstorms'hail/and 6" snow with zero issues. (YES snow in June!!!) Very warm and plenty of room for myself and my gear. Thank you for the awesome reviews!!!
I have snug packs bunker 3 tent first time I set it up and there was a bad storm, slept like a baby no leaks it held up strong winds was very impressed

Due to watching this tent review I purchased this tent for my wife and I to use. I was pleasantly surprised at how well it preformed during a 3 day summer camping trip. We experienced heavy thunderstorms and high winds one evening and the tent with all of the stakes and tie downs made it seem like we were inside of a tank! This is a really sturdy and strong tent. Great Preview, I bought this tent and have used it in all kinds of weather, with and without the inner tent. I use it primarily for kayak trips where it serves myself and some friends well. On the trip when the crew decides omniscience's hammocks, it still sits inside my kayaks hatch, and when storms roll in, I've more than one visitor in my palace, since the Ladies of our group are not fans of hammocks in a thunderstorm or snow squall. I've had several annoyed friends when their better halves move into the tent where it easy to make coffee in the vestibule and cook, which is not so easy under a tarp, when using a hammock. This tent stands up to any weather I've seen, including high winds coming off the water at a lake side camp site.

I really like this tent. I have a Big Agnes Fly Creek UL2 which I bought a few years ago, but have yet to use. I don't get out as much as I use to. Not that that has been, or was, very often to begin with. I loved camping as a kid, but as an adult I didn't go as much as I should have. Keep the videos coming. Love your take on the equipment.
@@jonathangarzon2798 used it in the Scottish Highlands multiple times in heavy rain, winds over 60mph and in heavy snow storms. Hasn't leaked once, its superb as with all Snugpak products I've used. Their sleeping bags are also amazingly good and cheap compared to so called 'high end' bags. I do also use their Ionosphere bivvy tent at only 1.5kg for myself doing summit camps and general wild camps in remote locations. Again, takes gale force winds and heavy downpours with ease 👍 highly recommend their kit to anyone

Great review brother! This tent is going up to the frozen Sierras next week. I just set mine up today for the first time and put the green angle tipped poles backwards, NAILED IT! Despite my regularly prescribed stupidity, I feel confident ill be toast, even in a blizzard.
Hey, Luke, you could have also spread out the front door "wings" to make it an even more effective tent for warming up before an external open fire. It bears some similarities in design elements (though not pole structure) to Warren H. Miller's award-winning "Forester Tent," pioneered early in the 20th Century and shown in the frontispiece of his book, CAMP CRAFT," 1915.
Very similar to the Redverz Atacama except it is much much smaller. The inner tent is meant to stay attached to the fly though. That way you are only setting it up once.
Snugpak tents are A's in my book. The lonosphere 1 man tent is my go to for hiking as well as its the go to tent for the Army Ranger Battalions as well.

Nice in depth preview. Many tent companies boast the "dry pitch" as an additional feature but in practice it's not that easy to do, this tent requires you to do it, opposite of most designs.
T.O.G.R. : Great review with plenty of info on the Snugpak Scorpion 3 - [ 4 season tent ] Very sturdy design to withstand the elements year round , with great colour scheme of Olive Drab for the tent fly , burgundy colour on the inside of tent ….. I've got the Scorpion 2, what I have done is to have left the inner attached to save time when putting the tent up in future. So all I have is put the poles in and peg it out, then I'm ready to go. It takes me 5 minutes to put the tent up now, instead of 20 minutes it takes clipping the inner up. I also have the same problem with the stuff sack being too small for the tent. Most of my equipment is Snugpak from my. Tents (Ionosphere & Scorpion 2), Tarp, Sleeping Bag (Special Forces 2 & Fleece Liner), Bivvy Bag, Jungle Blanket and various cold weather clothing such as. Tent Boots, Hat, Socks and Jacket. The only problem I have had is with the Scorpion 2 bag size
I just tried my Scorpion 3 on the exposed top of Bob Stratton Bald this past weekend with some 50+ mph wind. With all of the guy lines, it barely flinched outside and inside was static. The poles WILL fit in the bag if you roll the two layers together around the poles in the center of the roll. Another note, I plan on replacing the guy lines provided with less absorbent line . They absorb way too much moisture and will freeze. Thanks for the review. I bought mine after watching this!
Awesome Tent, and an awesome review! First "Real" tent I have ever owned, and I am loving it so far. Used it this summer for a 3 day, 2 night hike, and I have to say.. I did not need a sleeping bag ;) We´ll see how it does through the Swedish winter!

As a bigger dude...wide not tall lol...I like the looks of this. I got a Catoma one man last year and it didn't work out for me, was too small. Thanks for the good review.
Snugpak scorpion3, I’ve been using it for 3 years now. It is easier to fit into the bag (poles and all) after using it a few times. Yes it’s weird and doesn’t make much sense, but at least it seems that way for mine.
Very nice review as usual. It does look akwardly large in the packed size. Perhaps they could have made it more of a roll like other tents? That aside, $250 for a winter tent is other-worldly! At 7.5 lbs it aint half bad either. My BD Stormtrack weighs in at 7 even.

Great Review. I was on the fence on this version or the "Bunker" also from Snugpak. I opted for the Bunker and really like it. Also a 4 season. Also good amount of room. Little different design. That one is running $205 on Amazon. Still really like the Scorpion. Glad to see this set up. I think both are great options for low cost winter camping. My nephews were very warm in my Snugpak with outside temps in mid 20's. I would assume this one would perform very similar. No issues with condensation. Totally recommend.
this is a tent for one, im 6'4' and it could be a little longer, also to put in the inner liner is a pain to install, but i do like this tent, and it works for me.............
Decent design that permits easy installation of the inner tent AFTER setting up the fly. This keeps the inner tent dry in a rain storm. JUST LEAVE THE DAMN INNER TENT ATTACHED TO THE FLY FOR FASTER SETUP!! BTW, The toggles and rings SHOULD be color coded. They are inside and can't be seen by the enemy.
Great review. I really like this tent. I’ve been looking for a good 4 season that doesn’t break the bank but still is good quality. And thanks to you, I think I’ve found it. Thanks a lot Luke
Thanks a lot. Also, I wanted to ask about it's performance in snow (light/heavy). I live in Florida, and I have no idea about camping in temperatures less than 45. I intend to do some winter camping in the Smokies when I'm prepared. Scorpion 3 is my best for now.
It's been 4 years but thought I'd chime in, in case anybody else asks. I've used this in snow and in weather that got down to 5 F. It still works great so long as you're prepared with proper gear - bag, clothes, etc.. Having a good sized gap between the outer and inner meant what little condensation I did have, never touched me. And for anyone still wondering about specifics, there's another video out there now of someone showing their in-snow setup.
@@zeroflight6867 - Hello, I need some help finding a good tent from someone experienced in this area. Would you recommend Scorpion 2 or Scorpion 3? Or is there another brand you would suggest?
thegreatecb It really depends on your camping intent. For instance the Scorpion is technically a 3-season, not 4. It’s not fully contained so can’t seal the way a 4 season does. It’s also so dark a fabric that it can get hot inside in high heat. With the inner being entirely bug-netted, you can open quite a bit but it won’t compete on airy-ness with something a lot lighter weight. Which is why I have a different tent for hot weather, and a hammock for warm weather stealth camping. When talking with friends, I call this a storm tent because of how well it holds against bad weather. I have the Scorpion 3 and it’s pretty dang roomy for one person with a lot of gear and possibly a dog. It could handle 2 people and a little gear in the main area pretty well plus the vestibule area. But it’s not super tall; kneeling is about the best you’ll get. All this thing and I use it for all seasons but full summer. All that to say this is a fantastic tent but not great for all scenarios or people. I almost always camp by myself so don’t have to share space. It’s also heavier than most backpackers want to carry but I’m willing. In deciding anything, you first have to figure out what your purpose is - cold weather, stealth, storm, breathability, capacity, budget, etc. Then when you have that, you can start narrowing down tents (or other shelters) that fit. Once you have a basic list, I also recommend keeping an eye on BackpackingLight’s Gear Swap site. I’ve seen a couple of my 2nd choices show up there (used) for a really good price. That’s where I got my summer tent - NF Mica, not my first choice but a 2nd or 3rd and a price I couldn’t pass.
Just received a Scorpion 3. After the initail setup, it looks like a nice tent. My only concern, being a 4 season tent, is the sag in the top, between the outer and inner. I do not think it wil take a moderate snow load. I will try it out the weather in the snow.
About the perceived "weak spot" in the middle/top.... I have yet to find any amount of snow that'll collapse the thing. Yes, you occassionally have to tap the snow off now and then but that's any tent. Honestly, this is about as close to bomb proof as you can get. Lay inside while its raining or snowing sometime, and you'll appreciate how the design just sheds all kinds of precipitation. And for the $? Crazy good deal. The kind of tent you can trust your life to...
Great preview Luke! Seems like a solid tent. Love the color too! Haven't commented in a while I try to keep up with most of your videos though. By the way the Ribz pack sticker I received from you in a giveaway you did a long time ago is still holding up and riding on my jeep window!
Nice tent. But that is a one person tent for me. I like a lot of room. I guess I like cabin tents the best because I can stand up in them. But I won't mind having this one in my camp gear collection. Thanks the video is very helpful.
Thanks for the preview Luke! Does the scorpion 3 have a double door in the main entrance of the inner tent? One moquito mesh and the other normal tent fabric? I think I´m buying one either way but it would have been nice with the double door.
Pretty much the same as the Vango Mirage Pro 300 .. Also a British company .. The Vangos are slightly less expensive than snug packs offerings.. Both tents on the heavy side for backpacking unless the weight is shared..

this is a tent for one, im 6'4' and it could be a little longer, also to put in the inner liner is a pain to install, but i do like this tent, and it works for me.............
I agree, the storage sack is too small to get the tent back into.
awesome tent I've been wanting to see one so thank you for the video.
That's a killer tent there luke
Just bought the Scorpion 3, looks the best quality/price compromise for 2 people.
Great review. I really like this tent. I’ve been looking for a good 4 season that doesn’t break the bank but still is good quality. And thanks to you, I think I’ve found it. Thanks a lot Luke
very cool, i like that its 2 part tent
really like this tent awesome not likely to get wet with it and I like the color, thanks for the video Luke.
Great Review Luke! Snugpak seems like the Real Deal to me. Thanks Much & I Wish You A Very Merry Christmas!
I go solo camping or camping with the dog, so for me the Scorpion 2 is looking like the better tent.
Luke, have you done an update review on this tent ???
Like a multi-day camp out ?
Keep up the great work !
I was looking for the same thing, and he at least used the tent in this overnighter: th-cam.com/video/35H0O_aqCtE/w-d-xo.html
Thank you Luke for such of great review!!
OMG thats so funny, your intro song was the same as X22 report spotlight!!! lol Great REAL news btw
I think with how that inner tent attaches I bet that prevents A LOT of condensation build up in the morning
snugpak makes some really good gear
Excellent review my friend.
Check out Amazon thru the year this tent goes down to about $229 with free shipping. It's a badazz tent very warm get yourself one!
Thumbs up as always... Nice Tent. Peace.
Great review as always Luke.... Hopefully we see you in a winter Bushcraft overnighter soon! Hope you get through your Family issues ok.
So there's no way to use the "inner" without the fly?
Great preview Luke! Seems like a solid tent. Love the color too! Haven't commented in a while I try to keep up with most of your videos though. By the way the Ribz pack sticker I received from you in a giveaway you did a long time ago is still holding up and riding on my jeep window!
Do u ever spray a silicone water proofing spray like Camp Dry on your tents. I do and it makes water bead right off!
Love this tent , just went to a 2 or 1 man for little bit less weight.
Pretty much the same as the Vango Mirage Pro 300 .. Also a British company .. The Vangos are slightly less expensive than snug packs offerings.. Both tents on the heavy side for backpacking unless the weight is shared..
correct on poles! that is HEAVY! like insides. amazon scorpion 2 is $399. with you on the sack - i have lost poles before. sucks to cut a tree sapling.
Usually you mention ventilation. Any tent with no bug net options has a big design flaw. Almost all Snugpak tents have this big big design flaw.
If you would look at the moko 3 person 4 season tent
