I had never seen a Lisa before this weekend, I then got to see six in one room! The five here and the one over at Edgar Digital.

When I entered Virginia Tech in the fall of '85, the engineering students were required to have an IBM PC. But the Computer Science students got Macintosh XLs (which were slightly upgraded Lisas) with 10MB external hard drives running A/UX, Apple's implementation of Unix. Those drives were terrible and failed all the time. Even worse, they had quit building them that spring so they were essentially orphan machines when the students got them!

Interesting! The Lisa/XL is certainly a unique part of Apple history!

Now the hard challenge is to try this with 5 BeBoxes. They only ever produced around 5000 of them.

I've seen a few in person, but never more than one at a time!

How those Lisa owners got their hands on good condition Lisas Is beyond me. I heard they were all dumped in a landfill somewhere.

Yea, all of the unsold ones did at one point sadly.

Im unclear what makes these so special? My fathers Lisa still works fine for what it is.

I think it is the general rarity of them?

@@RetroTechChris Correct. They're pretty rare since it wasn't a huge success for Apple. They cost about $10k when released in the early 80s

Why are you showing us boxes with a glowing screen? Normal cardboard is cheaper
