    I shouldn't have watched this. I, currently, have more fabric than sewing plans. More patterns than sewing plans. LOL.

    Fabulous retro patterns!

    I think the first halter dress, but with little sleeves would look lovely with your special fabric, or the one you pointed out.
    I'd like to see the skirts and blouses.

    I think the fall colors combo and the eyelet would be amazing for 1930s style. Maybe trousers and jacket and a dress for the eyelet. Love this.

    B5209 for your fabric! (I also bought that pattern and want to make it for a friend)

    I think that vogue pattern would be great for the birthday dress! The pink view looks like it has a lot of body, so the balenciaga may not drape them same way, but I think you could throw a crinoline underneath, and agree it would look lovely in that pretty floral:)

    I agree with others about the Vogue 1884 for your birthday dress. I love a square neckline for something different. It's surprisingly easy. Check out Karina at Lifting Pins and Needles, she has a great video on them. Looking forward to whatever you make with such lovely fabric to celebrate your special day!

    I think the pink vogue dress, would look great with the Balenciaga! I was going to say the pattern with the black & white stripes, but, the pink (or the B choice in the black top) is even prettier. That fabric is so lovely, I would recommend something simple and possibly form fitting on the top, and a fluffy semi short skirt, like, just below the knees, sort of mid calf, perhaps. Maybe with the petticoat from the last make put under the skirt.
    Sometimes local square dancing groups will sell their petticoats. I think the work great under the full skirts of the 1950's.

    Thanks for showing us your haul 😊 I think either of the 1st two retro reproduction patterns would be good with your fabric. However, the 40s one with lots of seams/darts with a slippery fabric might be a recipe for aggravation unless you want to underline or fuse the whole thing? The simplicity from the 40s has the same vibe but feels more flowy, so might be better with your fabric? That skirt pattern is so cute, can't wait to see the make. 😍 I would love to see you do decorative applique on a top or skirt.

    I think butterick B5209 would be amazing in the balenciaga fabric !

    • @SewSewDrew

      So that’s exactly what I was thinking!!!

  • @stevezytveld6585
    @stevezytveld6585 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Damn... you found Balenciaga fabric. Good. Score. Wow. Well done, Ms. Drew. The Butterick repro from 61 would be a good match for it. You may have to flatline the pieces with some cotton muslin to increase the heft of the fabric. The repro is a similar feel to the summer Vogue birthday dress pattern. You may be able to pattern hack between the two?
    I lost a bid on your 1940's pattern with the embroidery stencil (different size). Funny how these things come up. You're going to have to do that one soon, so I can live vicariously (lol).
    I plan on pirating my dress patterns to make separate tops and bottoms for each pattern (3 wardrobe pieces from one pattern). Not sure if this will work, but I'm willing to try.
    Oh. That gown pattern from the 40's... slay me now. It would make working with a metallic fabric worth the heartache.
    Love the mustard and the complementary flower pattern. Definitely voting for some sort of pant/short and top combo (solid for the bottom, pattern for the top??). Agree for a skirt for the eyelette - it's just a matter if you want the volume or a pencil skirt.
    I know we're probably too early for reprints to be happening for the 1930's patterns, but keep an eye out. I think some smooth and slinky bias cut goodness would look good for you. I've recently found some luck with finding originals from that time in my bust size (or slightly larger than a 38) on the ebay, they average out to around 40$ per pattern. Which is steep, but not impossible. All of it is going to have to be upsized for my waist and hips, but hopefully I won't be swearing at my past self too badly...
    Happy Saturday, Lady. I hope Major stays open to matching outfits for the foreseeable future...

      That’s 50s pattern with a metallic would be amazing. Maybe that’s for New Years Eve! And volume or pencil is what I’ve been asking myself all day 😊 and same with Major I hope we can twin for many years to come. I hope you have a super sweet Sunday and a really great week Ms. Cathy ♥️

      @@SewSewDrew Thank you so much, Ms. Drew. Same to you and yours.
      Yes! The 50's dress in a metallic to trip the light fantastic for 2023. The trick with the mock-up will be to find a similar fabric to your final fashion fabric. Otherwise you'll be struggling with figuring out if the drape is going to do what you think it will.
      For metallic fabric the sewing book of Simplicity 1937 advises to press as little as possible, with no water. And to store the fabric wrapped in dark cloth to prevent tarnishing. Which, I think, means that metallic fabric in the 40's was shot through with metal wefts?? We live in a post-Dupont-Plastics world, surely this doesn't still apply?
      To pencil skirt or not to pencil skirt the eyelette. THAT is the question. You could always flip a coin. If you're disappointed with the results, then do what you'd rather?
      Me, my Mum and older sister had matching nylon wool ponchos in the early 70's. I loved it. And kind of wish mine had survived, now that I look back on it. Itchy 'wool' and all. All you had to tell me that "big girl" and that piece of clothing went together and on it went...
      Have a great week, Lady. Cheers!

    I'm so sorry about the not flattering!
    😕
    Can you make alterations to get it to fit your form, better? I assume yes.
    I don't know if you do pattern drafting, but if you could try, and succeed, you may feel lots better.
    I don't want to guess too much about it. But, if it's that expensive, maybe doing something to make it a thing you can enjoy is possible? (Although, honestly, it depends on personal aesthetics, and other stuff. So, maybe my ideas wouldn't even be applicable)

    • @SewSewDrew
      @SewSewDrew  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I need to get into drafting my own patterns that’s is 2023 goal!!

    • @catherinejustcatherine1778
      @catherinejustcatherine1778 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SewSewDrew maybe, save the scraps, and save the dress, and make re-drafting the extant shapes and fabric into something that you love the fit of... a goal for a "first drafting independent project" ?
      (I believe that expensive fabric that you love should be made into things you enjoy, including remakes/ creative reworking)
      Or, if the pattern turned out absolutely perfect & you're ready to let go of the dress, perhaps one of your loved ones is a perfect fit, and it would make an excellent gift for them?
