    No apology needed. I had a blast watching you and the others bringing them fish in! Im thinking the silver salmon you were catching are like what I buy in the store in cans. We make salmon loafs and salmon cakes out of it. I gotta get back up there to catch my own to throw on the grill. Thanks for bringing us with you!

    Use a swivel man. Alot of those snagging hooks have sharp edges where the eye is. If you're in a rocky area, don't stop reeling or yanking to mess with your hoodie. That's how you lose hooks. I've been snagging in Seward since 1989. Also, follow the tide down to collect a bunch of lost snagging hooks.

      Method of take is regulated by the AK Fish and Game. The resources, overall are abundant and healthy. Snagging helps ensure residents go home with plenty of food - without getting hung up in red tape. It's not about ethics. It's about filling coolers - because the numbers support it. Here in WA state, snagging is only allowed for tribal people. As a european caucasian, I have to use a single, barbless hook, and not appear to be snagging.

    I'm moving my kiddos (well they're teens up to 23 now) to Alaska in Spring 2023. We've started watching Alaska fishing videos and sub'd today to you. I've never been fishing but we're farmers and process chickens, pigs, etc ourselves so we can handle it. Where and how do you find what's in season, where to go to fish it and what you're supposed to use? ie-snag, floss(?), dip net, or hook and line?
    Also, how expensive is it to buy all those snagging hooks? How many do you go through a season?

      You'll have to check the ADFG website for regulations. I suggest you start skimming over it now. Do not trust anything anyone tells you here. Most people don't read the regs and are clueless.

    Thanks for the video but seriously you gotta learn how to hit the fish properly, to put the fish out of it's misery. Hit it on the bridge of the snout/nose, if done correctly the fish dies right then.

      Yes, right on the top of the head not the cheek. I have heard of this fishing practice in alaska for food fisheries... but, why use such light spinning gear for snagging salmon? Get a pool cue and some braid and winch them in.

      @@NuttyNu maybe in your mind. But to me and many others (some here on this post) it is NOT fishing. Like I said in my original post, Snagging is not fishing. It's snagging and this video doesn't tell me you are in a survival situation, so there is also that. Are you not skilled enough to entice a fish to bite with its mouth on something you are offering?

    • @BIGGSIPP01

      @David Miser Well as an Alaskan resident, I will tell you the same thing you told us. It's your opinion. Just like it's our opinion that snagging IS fishing here to us. So is the FACT our state regulations, which you can find online, also calls snagging a form of PERSONAL USE FISHING, which you are obviously comparing to your beloved lower 48 styles of sport fishing, which we dont care about. We catch salmon for food, not sport. The same as you don't care about our snagging methods. There's also the FACT, that your opinion really doesn't matter to us. FACT vs. Opinion, both which I just backed up by regulations. See how that works????

      @@BIGGSIPP01 Allowed by regulation or not its my opinion. And I do not fish for sport I fish for food, just not commercially or that way for sustenance. I have fished Alaska many times and when given the opportunity to snag I declined. • @BIGGSIPP01
      @BIGGSIPP01 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can voice your opinion. He'll, we all have opinions. Since you eluded to your previous comment, after reading it, I'd like to ask. You do know you can't "entice" a salmon to bite since all salmon stop feeding once they start their spawning transition from saltwater to freshwater, right? I get it. You can care less about snagging. But your "lure" tactics is a form of snagging in itself, since you can't entice salmon to bite lures in freshwater during spawning runs. You said you caught salmon in Alaska before. Good for you! Did you think your use of a lure was you enticing fish? What's interesting is how people call triggering a salmon's instinct to carry eggs in freshwater "biting". In reality, certain colors (pink/orange) mimick loose eggs and trigger a salmon's natural instinct to carry them upstream. Beads above a hook, or even using cured eggs, same applies. But if that's what you think it is, so be it. Please...do comment. I welcome it at this point.
