- This weeks #SlowAirSunday featuring a traditional tune called "Highland Cathedral". This melody was composed by German musicians Ulrich Roever and Michael Korb in 1982 for a Highland games held in Germany. It has been proposed as the Scottish national anthem to replace unofficial anthems Scotland the Brave and/or Flower of Scotland. It has subsequently undergone various orchestrations and had lyrics added in English and in Scottish Gaelic.

We went to Scotland in May, and as we were hiking down the Old Man of Storr, someone was playing this tune on the bagpipes. I wasn't able to find the name of the tune until now, and I'm so happy!

What brand and model of bagpipe are you playing?
not bad, uniform is very nice. pipes are not tuned sufficiently and her glorified embellishments to fancy the tune up don't help the tune at all. the acturally hurt the tune. they also slow the tune even further so it isn't played at a constant sow air timing. . nice attempt though. eho sm I to say this??? i am a miitary piper playing with both canadian airforce and army , i have been playing for over 45 years so I think a do know a thing or twol Keep up the good work and practice practice practice!!(llol)

bagpipes are my favorite instrument and should be played accordingly 😅
I was outside practicing a few weeks ago and a l ady came up and asked me about a set of pipes she has, which have been in her family for over a hundred years. They were used in the Boer War and the First World War. They are Hendersons and are currently being restored for display. Nice bit of C anadian history which will be preserved. My last posting was 5 Wing in Goose Bay.

Your grace notes are a bit sloppy to try and fancy them up....I’m not saying you won’t be good.... but tighten up your embellishments the proper way, not by adding nonsensical movements to them. You or the filmmaker tuned the pipes up decent tho👍 be humble and play as written.

I think this young piper’s interpretation of this lovely relative new tune is gorgeous. I like that her embellishments aren’t « crushed » ~ and, respectfully, if some are non-traditional but lovely, what, in truth is wrong with that? 5*****
