Yes it does! It’s a great bit of kit. It concentrates in cleaning the surface of the pond which most filters can’t do, and it’s the part you’re looking at the most!

@@Mountain_Aquatics I was watching it on the telly, so it's a bit easier to see. It's swimming away from the potted lily toward the bottom of the screen. Enjoying your vids BTW.
Those fish look amazing now, their colours and patterns have come out beautifully, I remember as a kid, we saved a lone goldfish that was left in an old ceramic sink that the previous owners of the house had dug it into the ground, and not even told us that there was a fish in it. It was the darkest green, slimy water id seen, left in a small sink poor thing, we caught it and and it was just plain brown, we got the right tank etc and within a week or so, it was a beautiful bright orange again, we added another goldfish and they both lasted ages! It was so satisfying to get it out the condition it was in, and see it transform to how it should be, just like these ones on this video.
That green colour that you can still see, I'm guessing that's mostly because of moss or algea on the floor and walls of the pond, rather than in the water itself. The water looks quite clear.
I think the design of this pond does. Herons like to usually land away from a pond and then walk over to creep up on the fish and also make sure that the area is safe. This pond has such a high wall around it that the heron would have to land directly on to the wall. Not impossible but less likely. Then the water line is quite far below the top of the wall, it would be a stretch for the heron to reach. It’s not impossible, but it makes it more difficult for the heron. The pond is also now covered by CCTV so the owners can monitor it at all times. There have been no issues with herons so far, if there ever are then we will look to address it straight away. I hope this answered your question 🙂
The water looks so clear! I watched your winter update video and it's a pity the large gravel wasn't enough to stop the koi having a go. Maybe chicken wire over the top of the gravel? Or do you think thr plants need a cordoned-off area to establish?
I've tried quite a few different water lillies in ponds with koi that size and the only one I could keep going long term was 'Marliacea Chromatella', the attention from the fish was just too much, very easy for a browsing carp to break off all the young shoots. I must have tried at least a dozen different varieties. The only difference I can think of is that Chromatella has a pineapple shaped rhizome. Some of the others might work if you can grow them to huge plant size, and thus very vigorous, before putting in the koi pond (or get them established when the fish are still small, not an option here, obviously). Also, the basket size might still be too small. I don't know if you said how many litres but they looked pretty small to me. A bulldozing carp can easily move small baskets so you might find them on the base of the pool next time you visit! 20 litres ought to be big enough basket size to remain in place (hopefully), ordinary garden loam or clay in the bottom and then the same size stones you used in layers on top. Good luck!
@@Mountain_Aquatics Good luck with that but I don't hold out much hope for them with that many carp in the pond. If I was running a business like yours I would buy in lillies, plant them up in the 35cm wide baskets, grow them on for a year or so in a koi-less pond to build up strength. Once they were strongly growing and potentially koi proof you could easily quadruple the price of a small lilly and people would pay.
This is really neat! Thank you for sharing. I saw the original video as well and im curious why you left the green on the walls below the waterline when you pressure washed the above? Was it because it is an alternate food source or the UV filter will eventually clear it? Awesome videos!
Good question! There were a couple of reasons. Firstly we did not know the condition of the waterproof seal on the pond. If we went too hard and damaged this then it would be a very expensive fix. Secondly we hope to improve the conditions of the pond over time. No point just scrubbing algae every few months if you don’t solve the problem. We looked at improving the filtration and adding a slimmer which will stop the excess in nutrients which is feeding the algae in the first place. This will solve the issue long term

It is going from the sides, it is a slow process. The mrs is some green blanket weed frowning in the bottom now. We will deal with that using the pond vac
I'd be surprised to find that the koi didn't eat those water lilies in the first few days. You can't have aquatic plants with large koi. For amusement, throw a couple full heads of romaine lettuce in the pond and let them float for a few days. You'll be left with the white core bottoms.
You know what's crazy to me? I was watching antscanada make some natural aquariums that didn't need any filters. He only used various aquatic plants. To my amazement the cloudy water turned crystal clear.
My old dads pond is pea green I’ve installed a 55 watt clarifier but I think his filter box is not up to it 12000 liters what would you recommend he is 93 thanks

Really interesting to see this pond coming along. Out of curiousity, was there a reason the lillies weren't put in pots with gravel in the beginning?
This was just how they came from the supplier and we weren’t due to do any work on the pond so just dropped them off and filmed a quick update
would Duckweeds do a better job for filtration?
They would remove nutrients yes. But the fish would gobble it all up so fast it wouldn’t have a chance

Yeah some plants are fine with just gravel. It’s handy to know which ones!
what are the fish eating? Why are the pine trees not trimmed or cut back or removed from that area?
The trees have had some major work on them since. But that is the for the gardener to do, not us
Some beautiful "Ghosties" in there.

Is it possible that the koi that lost its color could get it back? I feel so bad for the fish.

They have still been sifting through the larger pebbles funnily enough. We need bigger ones!
I would put floating baskets in with plants that will spill over, so the plants are safe but the fish can still have a nibble.
We have discussed this actually, I think it’s a great idea
looking really good. do they need any type of sand or gravel for spawning?
They prefer to spawn in plants
That pond looks kind of old, were you surprised it didn't have any leaks?
We knew it would hold water. But yes we did make sure we were careful when it came to pressure washing the sides just in case
❤❤❤❤
Will the algae on the bottom slowly die as it’s exposed to the sunlight?
Sunlight is what algae feeds on. We need to get the balance right and add plants that will take the nutrients that would otherwise feed the algae

I think a big filter would work good for the pond
Yep
I'd be surprised to find that the koi didn't eat those water lilies in the first few days. You can't have aquatic plants with large koi. For amusement, throw a couple full heads of romaine lettuce in the pond and let them float for a few days. You'll be left with the white core bottoms.

@Mountain Aquatics What is the brand name of that filter?
Oase
How did so many survive for so long when if the pond had been abandoned for 3 years how did they feed?
We don’t know. Maybe insects and algae
I'd like to see some of the darker fish removed and replaced with more colourful ones.
I think that is the customers plan over time
You know what's crazy to me? I was watching antscanada make some natural aquariums that didn't need any filters. He only used various aquatic plants. To my amazement the cloudy water turned crystal clear.
Yea plants are a great natural filter
