As a novice to anything DIY really, I went to B&Q searching for a "proper" sealant gun(?) and said to myself "I can't afford to buy cheap", but when I got in I realized there were 4 different ones available, all ranging from 2 pounds to 5 pounds, and I can safely say that these guns are absolute shite! I went in searching for a proper one, but they don't even offer em.

Licking your finger for smoothing silicone, that's the perfect way to introduce bacteria and cause premature "blacking".

Wasn't the silicone itself Anti - bacterial though?

Usually, but not always, you are pushing bacteria right into the silicone itself, if nothing else it can cause premature blackening. Much better to use water with a little washing up liquid in it.

I'm a decorator/tiler etc of 42 years and you've just committed a major sin. Silicone to paint. Around the window should always be caulk as emulsion won't stick to silicone and you can't paint a straight edge. Another tip when doing baths is to silicone the bath before you tile, so it has a double seal.

+niptodstan Hello there, we didn't get to show the double seal as the tiles were already put on but rest assured that Tony the plumber did seal the bath as he fitted it. We will get him to do a separate video to show this tip off. As for the silicone around the window directly onto paint, you are totally correct but we do this for a reason. The reason being that it gives that added protection from water penetration from the exterior of the building. In this instance we was working in a chalet bungalow and the outside revel of this window was tile hanged with a render cement filet. That cement to plastic joint was also sealed but as we wasnt 100% sure if the previous builders had used waterproofer in the cement mix we decided to add a bead of silicone on the internal joint to be safe. Any moisture coming through that area would cause the caulk to turn black pretty fast. So yes your point is correct but needs must in this situation. :)
