With TomTom leaving the Safety Factor in the shop has dropped 11% 🤣
11^2%*
At least Tom Tom used his safety glasses, can’t say that much about the others.
I have a suspicion that there is a ego thing going on. Seems that family might be used to it.

"I get to take the Race Car." immediately floors it and erupts in an ear-to-ear grin. THAT is awesomeness.
I was gonna say the same thing. I felt her joy. Soon as I heard 'i get to take the race car' I knew what was gonna happen. But that smile on her face made me happy.
My wife and I were watching when that happened, I looked at her and said “yup, she fits right in”… she saw it too…”Yup”.
I make the same face every. single. time.
The 4.6 is not the fastest by any means but does sound amazing.
*Young lady, do you know how fast you were going?*
_"Officer, you don't understand! My employer was cyber bullied, which led to a bent Bombi, and an all hands rush to repair Ford 9" axle tubes none of us completely know how to build. On top of that, I am taking the replica racecar from our race in Florida with Cleetus and other TH-camrs, which my employer bent against a wall at the Freedom Factory!"_
Ma'am, I need you to get out of the car for a Field Sobriety Test. HQ, I'm gonna need backup, we got a crazy one out here.
The smile on Katelyn's face while driving the race car was great. Actually, she is always smiling and i appreciate that.
Tom is leaving? No!! I love Tom’s attitude he brings to the job!
He's started his own channel.
"Get back in your helicopter Fly Boy." ROFL 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Being a Air Force veteran myself ! I laughed so hard that my sides started hurting ! Loved it !
Finally an answer to the rental Jeep question! That’s been plaguing me!!
I actually kept wondering if they rented it out when they weren’t using it or something
I just figured they bought a Jeep from Hertz or something 😅
@@psedog I am sure they are like well now you bought it lol

I'm glad we're actually getting a sendoff this time. Too many of the past people have just been gone and only given a 15 second blurb after a couple weeks
Do you feel they provided a safe space for your feelings?
Didn’t take Matt long to check Collin’s weld lol.
@Kevytc As a parent, I love to check out my kids' work just to see how good they do. It's not that strange, actually. Also, I like to brag about my kids' work too so what.
@@jasonstrout4502 That was a welding joke. Didn’t take him long because it was so hot.
that's because some past departures weren't exactly on the best of terms, others were muddled in behind-the-scenes controversies that had finally hit a boiling point, but nevertheless have no space for exposure on this channel. some people just need to move on, for better or worse. and as Tom Tom said on his recent video about leaving MORR, he's only 5 minutes away from the shop, so there will be plenty of content in the future with his face on it.
Tom always has a clever line, always willing to go along with the bit, and always wanting to torque things to spec when no one else does. We will miss you Tom!
Wish Tom the best, he will be missed for sure.

Most likely planned that way since she was filming herself.
Me 3. Soon as I heard her say that she has to get parts so gets to take the race car, i knew what was gonna happen. But the smile on her face made me happy.
Cannot fool you 🙄@@mediocreman2
Me 4, I was coming to make the same comment 😂
Hey Matt and Crew…it was great to meet you at Black Bear, and thanks for the shoutout on your channel. My wife and I were pleasantly surprised when we watched the show yesterday. Enjoy the Die-casts….😊
I'm an engineer, hate to tell you since this involves major rebuilding, but the problem is front sprocket drive puts tremendous stress on the whole track, axles, and chassis. Rear sprocket drive reduces the stress on both front and rear axles. Front sprocket drive means the tracks are not tensioned when they try to climb over obstacles, making it harder for them to float over rocks and ledges, again, more stress on the front axles. Military tanks can have massive axles and tracks, so some use front drive sprockets, but the Bombi isn't a 60 ton Abrams X.
I agree. The drive on the Bombi worked fine when it was basically just itself in snow with less power. As designed there’s much less load on the parts since it’s just driving around. With what they’re doing it’s much more load along with more power and more traction.
Going to take some trial and error to hopefully get it reliable. I would think the drivetrain can be reinforced enough to work.
Rebuilding this to be rear drive would be something. At that point I’d almost be wondering if a FWD drivetrain mounted in the rear would work.
While I agree with you on the principle, the real problem here I believe is having brakes on both the powered front axle with drive sprockets and the rear axle.
wow, Kaulin was that scared his dad was gonna burn himself he actually shouted at him. well done Kaulin, us dads should know these things but for some reason we forget.
There was a time when I would say to myself...how long before Matt burns his fingers this time. It entertaining when it’s 3 seconds into the vid....sorry matt😏
@@jasonh4167 it's a fair point, Matt often touches hot things :D
Look behind him in that clip, there's a sign by the door that says "CAUTION Matt it's Hot". This isn't new!
@Hrethgir I know it isn't new, but it's the first time one of his kids has got that worried he actually shouted at his dad! Full credit to Kaulin, though.
Hot steel looks pretty similar to cold steel 😅
Crazy how an off-road recovery channel has the most exciting, unique, functional, and COMPLETE builds on youtube.
Complete builds 😂😂😂😅😂 Matts rebuilding rebuilds cause he doesn't know what he's doing. 😂😂😂😅😂😂
Matt himself said all of his vehicles are in some form of "testing". One of the only complete builds he has is the Golden Nugget
he does anything but that 😭he’s one of the worst mechanics on youtube
@@theuglytruth8162I think he should hire you to replace Tom Tom since you know what he should do
I mean, theu rarely are perfect, but Matt does a good job of making stuff "good enough" and getting them to work.
30:38 Love Kaitlin and Rhetts positive energy. They both always look like they're having a great time and always laughing. They make great partners on the show.
Jamie is the reason all this works. Strong Woman, great wife , amazing Mom. Matt is a very lucky guy to have her. She is so there for everyone, and always has a light heart and open mind. Total support no questions asked. Bless you all I'm so happy to see you all thrive.
She is literally there for everyone
The crush spacing on the 9 inch bearing needs to be the thickness of a factory ford backing plate. If I recall its an 1/8 to 3/16 of an inch. I cant get to mine without tearing it all apart but like I said an 1/8 or so would be much better than the nothing you have now. You are really pushing on that seal and likely putting to much push on the bearing assembly also. Like setting a trailer axle nut way too tight. That bearing assembly inside that tube is a tapered bearing, just unitized.
Wait .. 6 and 3/16ths. He waited for Tom to leave to pull out a tape measure. 😅😅😅 Tomtom leaving his mark on Matts garage
Yeah, he pulled out a tape measure and read it wrong. Should have been 7+ inches.
Mat, the force on the rear wheel is actually supporting double the force required to move the Bombi because the forces from the top and bottom side of the track are equal, only the force on the bottom contributes towards moving the Bombie, and the wheel is supporting the forces of both the bottom and the top side of the track. If you were moving in reverse the top track would be slack and the wheel would only be supporting the force on the slack side. This is why bulldozers drive sprockets are on the rear.
Agreed - Kaitlyn's ear to ear grin about taking the race car was priceless! Gonna miss Tom Tom on MORR, but he' still close!
How dare you say Peanut wasn't helping. She was clearly increasing productivity by 11%
We all need a peanut.
I'll miss Tom on the channel, best of luck at the new job Tom.
He has a channel that's his new job. TomToms shop
Can I just say, how much Peanut loves Matt is the most adorable thing ever. Shes always right there with him.
Kaitlin cracks me up in those pink pants in the shop.
Does an impressive job of staying clean
She does so an impressive job of staying clean. All I have to do is walk by a car without touching it and I have grease or other particulates on my clothes. Good job Kaitlin. LOL
Tom Tom will definitely be missed he was a big part of the channel
Yes, but he will do the same thing he did two years ago, comes to help from time to time.
When Matt tells Ed how the axle got bent "I got into a tug o' war with a Cyber Truck" I think he shorted out Ed's brain for few seconds.
😂
I was going to make a similar comment, but yours was perfect. That look on Ed's face was priceless.
Watching Katelyn taking the racecar to get parts was TOTALLY worth the episode in itself.
Good luck TomTom, I am already a member.
Those Bombie rear axles are SUPER strong!!!!!!
Matt seems truly in his element with all this teaching!
The Bombi looks as it’s going to be 11% more stronger
He may have achieved 13%. Even as much as 14% dare I say
EDITING TEAM ABSOLUTELY KILLED IT!!! 10/10......
One of the things we learned in fielding newly modified equipment is that the forces that caused the modification do not eliminate those forces but simply transfer the effects to other areas, so you need to think beyond where the failure occurred and beef up those areas as well. You should beef up the entire shaft and the mounting area as well and where it attaches to the frame then continue to monitor that area.
It's mathematics son!
That’s kinda what he does. He just doesn’t think of it until it breaks 😂
inner tube should have been full length.
The ford 9" housing your using is an OE housing. Its meant to have the backing plate behind the bearing retainer. New 9" housings have a wider bearing area that wont support drum brakes. I wrote an article in bronco Driver about converting this to rear disks and it includes cutting the drum backing plate to fit with the bearing retainer. Crushing it down is not going to seal properly. I also recommend flipping the retainer so the open portion is on the top to help keep the gear oil in. Let me know if you would like a copy of the article in Bronco Driver.

Matt, you run your business-like SpaceX runs theirs. Design and build, test and evaluate and improve anything that is not up to scratch. The inner weld on the pipe is easy to remove there are a few TH-cam post explaining how to do so, but never mind, you did it your way. Finally, Kaitlyns grin when she floored the race car was amazing, she felt a need for speed. A good episode, well done guys and girls.

You've got a pretty freakin sweet crew there Matt - keep 'em happy and they'll serve you well.
The Bombi Build is kind of amazing to watch. It's been reborn, and now is being rebuilt in it's reborn form, and then rebuilt again. When it is done, if any project is EVER fully done, lets say, when it is CLOSE to being finalized, it will be a very unique, powerful, and effective piece of equipment. and since it is based on replaceable components, you should be able to keep it yankin and Vroomin for many years. That's cool that Cleetus sent you that trunk part. And I love the purple color of Jaymie's car.
You should add two small winches to the rear over the track wells so if the tracks need to be set in the field you can drag them over and on the wheels with the winches. And I guess two small winches in the rear would come in handy in other ways eventually. ;)
Loved the video. We will miss you Tom. God Bless you all. Be safe.
What a great send off for Tom Tom. There are good ships and there are wood ships, Ships that sail the sea, But the best ships are friendships, May they always be.
@22:38, that is NOT how you pack bearings. To be fair they may have just cut out the proper bits. I recommend putting a nice blob of grease in the palm of one hand, press the large side of the bearing into the grease again and again until it begins coming up through the other side. You force it through the bearings, thus packing them. (Probably just search how to pack wheel bearings, I'm sure there are many videos demonstrating the process.)
If other channels are watching, or reading comments for that matter lol, this is how you exit a TH-cam show to start your own. Much respect gentleman 👌🏻

Seeing that axle bent and then remembering when Matt welded one of the guide wheels back on the original Bombi... wow, how the heck did that weld ever hold?!😂
It doesn’t look like it, but I do know a little bit about welding and a little bit about engineering.
I don’t catch everything every single time. But I can’t imagine being able to catch every single thing every single time on a hand built vehicle the first time.
We do always seem to get the core correct, and then we make the adjustments we need until we have a killer unit we can count on
@MattsOffRoadRecovery You definitely don't have to explain all that to me since I have also built hand built vehicles... I'm a big fan of your work and have followed every minute of every build.
