This set did come out in 1986, though I believe the locomotive was released individually in 1983, and may have possibly appeared in a couple other train sets between, though I could be mistaken, so don't quote me on that. It was at least designed in 1983.

@@That_RC_Channel Should I buy this or an old Marx set? Hard to decide in some ways!

@@davydigger708 hard to say 😂 buy both of you can LOL but Lionel has much more support I would assume?

@@That_RC_Channel That's true. However, I've heard that Marx trains can be slightly more durable and easier to repair due to their simplicity - and sometimes a little cheaper too.

Whistle button on CW80 should sound whistle while train is at speed. Mine does, fyi.

I have this very same set! I’ve had it since I was a kid and I would set it up under my parents Christmas tree each year. I recently found it after a 30 year absence and I just set it up under my new tree with my wife. It runs great, even on the old O-27 track that came in the box with it.
    2 questions:
    1) How do you oil it? Do I oil the tracks or the locomotive wheels? What about the other cars?
    2) How do you put the train in reverse using the original transformer?? I’m using the original transformer (mine is black - yours is all red in your video) The box says the train can go in reverse and I remember doing it as a kid but I can’t remember now. Please help.

Hello and thanks for stopping by.
You will oil the small areas where the wheel rods go into the trucks. The other cars the same.
To put the locomotive in reverse you need to cycle the transformer all the way off then on…basically on-off-on and it should switch directions if it don’t check and see if your locomotive has a switch on it sometimes they do it’s a lock out.
