This is my favorite episode! It’s based on the Book of Job, wherein Heaven and Hell make a bet that Job would never lose faith in God even if everything were taken away from him. It was explained in the show but you might have missed it.
I love that the last book Gabriel was reading, which said "It was a nice day," was "Good Omens" the book. The book and the first season is funnier if you watch "The Omen" to understand what "Good Omens" is a parody of. I think the kids, the four horseman and other characters weren't half as fun in show as in they were book. Sorry to rattle on but here's why God ruined Job's life. God was boasting to the Devil about how his most devote follower, Job, loved him. The Devil said Job only loved God because God blessed him; if God took those things away than he would lose his faith. God made a bet with the Devil that Job would not turn away from God even if he lost everything. Job never did turn away from God because he still appreciated everything else God. (I've always thought that sorry is horrible and I was delighted to see it get subverted by these two.) Edit: The box wasn't empty. There was a fly in it.
David didn't know his father-in-law and his son were there. Ty is the son of Georgia she had when she was a teenager, and when David married Georgia, he adopted Ty as his own son.
This is almost definitely the best version of the story of Job I've ever seen. Crowley not wanting to kill anything is just perfect characterization. And "I'm a demon, I lied." Give David Tennant all of the awards right now.
Also, this episode proves one thing: barbequed meat is so good it's practically a sin. I'm from Texas, and holy shit, you haven't lived until you've had good brisket. It's fully understanding why BBQ was Aziraphale's introduction to human food.
