Josh Obagy Well that wasn't my answer, was it. Now you can argue who you think can't play the other's pieces but the reality is that people will purchase what they like to listen to
IOutDoSyndicate That's why i used the words "If" and "skill". I used Kanye as an example because he is more popular and obviously makes more money, but imo he has far less skill than Jon Rice. @@jonathanmellqvist2 when it comes to writing the correct drum parts,he’s still far superior than most today. He’s not the fastest,or the most technical…but he creates catchy and groovy fills.
@@jonathanmellqvist2 yea thats not true at all, dude had a successful tour with Behemoth, they dont let anybody waltz in and substitute for Inferno on a tour. Hes literally able to learn entire sets on short notice and still kill it. Also he has some of the cleanest fills in the game so idk about this sloppy nonsense.
I love how he can still keep everything so clean while he looks like he's actually enjoying playing the song. I find a lot of blast beat drummers to look so robotic that they don't even look like they are enjoying what they are playing. I understand that they are playing super fast beats but at least show some feeling when the song breaks down.
@GishEagle Well I guess we should get one thing out of the way. Hello, I'm Jon Rice and I personally uploaded this video myself. This is my youtube account. Yes, the drums are eq'd. No, they are not quantized. Good luck with your leg.
i was diagnosed with Major Clinical Depression... when ever the medication is not working, i can make sure to play this song that means the heart to me, and i will be whole...
I love how he doesn't just spam double bass like most metal drummers. He uses it sparingly, and makes sure it fits with the guitars. Also, good god those fills!
I still listen to this band on an almost daily basis. i got a speeding ticket last Sunday morning at 7am. i was on my way to work, listening to Entombment of A Machine and i got snagged doing 85 in a 60. ALL YOUR FAULT JFAC! 😂
How can ANYONE dislike this?! At least if you just don't like the song or something...admit that this guy has an amazing talent and machine guns on those feet.
He sets the rythm of the songs no doubt, but you can't deny that they have very unique vocals for a death metal band, very strong guitarists, and a great bass player. If you think Rice carries the whole band you haven't heard their latest 2 albums
On top of the meter changes and versatile and technical drumming, this guy has amazing sound quality when it comes to playing drums. When he hits his drums they aren't killed, the sound resonates perfectly.
You will never know the difference between "white knighting" and "just casually treating women like actual human beings because you're not a fucking mongoloid" huh
13 years later and Jon rice is still our lord and savior. This song is unmatched by ANY death metal drummer to this day. I was a fan before this video came out and still am. Sucks they aren't around anymore.
Not even close? Why because he plays shit other than blastbeats? Drummers like Jon are so refreshing because they rip fills to play off riffs and get creative with it.. as opposed to just going fast and blasting..
He is good and has his own unique sound, but i would not say he is the best. George Kollias for example is a way better. Also former Decapitated drummer, Vitek (R.I.P) was a lot better than Charn is
That whole drum part is a song within a song, incredibly musical for such a brutal performance. Maybe JFAC were really too damn good to last long, just like Necrophagist, but their classics will be not only remembered forever, but honoured and held godlike forever too. And yes, The Charn deserved way more personal fame than he got. What a freaking butcher!
this guy is absolutely fucking amazing! he doesnt stop!!!! and at the end he just kinda sits there like "ok whats next guys", i'd be dead from a heart attack!!
@kichermann Yeah its a Yamaha tour custom 22"x18 kicks, 10"x8" tom, 12"x9" tom, 16"x16" florr tom, 18"x16" floor tom, 14"x6" snare, meinl mb20, byzance, soundcaster custom fusion, generation x cymbals, remo powerstroke heads, Trick bigfoot pedals, ddrum triggers and ov course JON "THE CHARN." RICE.
@Gigadrane Multi-camera set up. The guy was saying that hits don't match, and I'm proposing that because we can't see any extra cameras in any of the shots, they more than likely shot this in multiple takes.
Another note on drum triggers. They're also used to pick up fast double bass patterns, cause once you hit the 200-260bpm mark it becomes extremely difficult for mics to pick up each stroke. Also if you're playing that fast the strokes are not going to have a whole lot of power behind them, so they're not as pronounced, and that's where the triggers come in so you can here the very fast/soft strokes being played. But that's not to say that there aren't drummers who use them for shortcuts.
The play through that started all playthroughs.
Dylan Potts there has never been a more true statement

12 Years later and this is still one of the best drum performances out there. Still gotta come back to this once a month or so for inspiration.
14 yrs still holding strong
@@shawnsynnestvedt5292 can confirm to this day. Still.
Such a try hard comment. Lmao there's lots of drumming better than this. It's great but def not one of the best. You just want your comment liked nerd
He has to be one of the most underrated drummers in death metal. Damn he knows how to play.
144p and still kicks ass.
Yeah - unlike in many ways today - it's about The Music - not the fucking quality of the sounds that some fukkin' Mr. allmighty "producer" creates.

same!
Me too 😂
Same 10 years and I still show people lmao
same lmao
Jon was 23 when he wrote and recorded this, the skill and proficiency he showed at that age is just simply nuts.
Man 11 years later and this is still so fire.
If musicians were paid based on actual skill, this guy would be swimming in bills like Scrooge McDuck.
Good thing musicians are paid on their music

Biggest facts. So much precision and technique, without looking like a stiff. I’ve watched this many times.
