The greatest drum composer in history. As RUSH fans we told anybody that would listen that RUSH was unbelievable, that they should check out this band. Very few believed us. Those that did became rabid fans like us. Looking back I'm glad RUSH didn't get the acclaim they deserved. It made it a lot easier to get good seats. Just to let you know he Neil Peart went to Africa and basically was learning tribal drumming did you hear that in part of his drum solo his work on this for probably 20-plus years and this is his masterpiece and I absolutely love it best drum solo ever in my book!
RIP Neil. Saw you first at the Trianon Ballroom, Regina, Saskatchewan, 1975 supported by the Queen City Kids. I think you were banging on Slingerland drums at the time. LOL. Thanks for the inspiration.
My reaction when I first saw him play a drum solo live was, "How does he DO that?". Seriously... the speed, the precision, the control -- a phenomenal performance. And he would do this two or three times a week for a year or more while on tour, in the middle of a three hour set.

@SuperCapt1701 That proves my point though. Anyone who thinks Neil is the most technical drummer is most likely unaware of any drummers apart from those who play in rock bands. He has jazz influences to his style. Which jazz being the standard for percussions and art showcasing this amazing talent of timing diddles, parsdiddles, etc
Every drum solo and drummer you will ever listen to for the rest of your life, has now been ruined by this experience. Neil is THE standard by which to compare every other percussionist by. And you may be able to argue that some are better at one style or another, than he is, nobody can argue that anyone is as well versed and better at them all, than Neil is.
Hey for real though, in 1977 I saw him in Oklahoma City and his drums were clear though, just a little bit of metal that you could see, it was freakin awsome there might have been a little magical mushroomed intensity about my demeanor that night but that was the most awesome drum set I've ever seen..!!🥁🥁
The crazy thing is... he then went on to play for 2-3 hours after this. He was a machine even in his 60s. Arthritis finally caught up to him though. He wont play unless he can play at his absolute best and he just cant do it anymore.
Kristin, glad you are enjoying Neil's drum solo! 2 things: there's a part of drum solo where Neil is killing it with a double-bass drum, quadruplet onslaught, at about the 11:30-mark. But then he abruptly stops at the 11:50-mark and does this seemingly "silly" figure on the cowbell percussion. Well, that little percussion figure is actually an homage to Chico Marx, of the Marx Brothers, from one of their movies (from the late 1920's to the late 40's). You may or may not know that Chico Marx was an excellent musician (so was Harpo Marx; they could all play instruments) and there's a film where Chico plays that figure, for comedic effect, on the piano. Anyway, this is Neil throwing in a bit of silliness into his otherwise rocking solo, and paying tribute to the greats in the process. 2nd thing: I highly recommend you listen to the original Neil Peart recorded solo from Rush's "All The World's A Stage" CD! You need to hear his original set-piece; it's totally metal!! It's so amazing and crushing...it's one of the reason's, besides the success of 2112, that Rush survived the downturn in their career (after 1975's underwhelming "Caress of Steel" -- an album I love, by the way) and went on to become "the band to see" in 1976!! It will rock your world!
Hi Kristin. Neil Peart is widely recognised as one of the greatest drummers ever. Sadly he has had some very sad times in his life. But his buddies in Rush Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson were so supportive. The Band RUSH has a bunch of really great songs to react to as well.
I think you did well to pause the video, Kristin. This is a drum solo that even the YT algorithm can recognize among the thousands of drum solos' videos out there. : )
It's so difficult to "rank" drummers. In the early years of radio music, Big Band/Swing was all the rage. You had Gene Krupa, and, a few years after, along came Buddy Rich and Max Roach. Then, in the 60s, guys like Keith Moon, Ginger Baker, Mitch Mitchell and then Ian Paice and John Bonham... and, later, Alex Van Halen, Lars Ulruch, (who was actually decent, but gets a bad rap as sounding 'beginner-ish," Tommy Lee, who didn't get the accolades free deserved, in my opinion. Every one of them...masters at their craft. Today, in my opinion, far too many rock music lovers put Bonham as "the greatest of all time." I just don't see it. As awesome as he was, compared to Neil Peart, he was rudimentarily inconsistent and, in all honesty, slightly sloppy, at times. There just wasn't precision, at the level of Peart, by any stretch of the imagination. Peart wrote out his work, stroke for stroke, practiced it, then perfected it... before even walking into the recording studio. And he was pretty much the first "OCD" drummer, that I know of. He wouldn't be satisfied with average. It had to be note-for-note perfect. He was truly an innovator, and a master from a different universe. He was inspired by Buddy Rich, others inspired by Gene Krupa, and players like Mike Portnoy, were inspired by Peart. He raised the bar. Period.
I liked his old solos better. But even those were always pretty much the same. I would have preferred to see him to to improvise a solo than to keep repeating himself.
Actually, considering every TH-cam reaction has either done it, or is filed with requests for it, it's not really one of their "deep" tracks anymore. I'd argue that anything off of Hold Your Fire, Presto, Roll the Bones or Test For Echo wooed be some much deeper songs - both by popularity and emotional lyrics.
Hi Kristin, I hope you are doing well. I would love to see you react to Journey: When You Love A Woman. It's my all time favorite Journey song. Thank you so much for being here. Love your channel.❤

Today, in my opinion, far too many rock music lovers put Bonham as "the greatest of all time."
I just don't see it.
Period.
Totally agree about Bonham.
Danny Hendrie , yeah, it’s a thing. Especially if you have seen the player live. Game changer!
Totally correct! I so want to go back! Thank you for explaining what I can not! One Show, just one! Would fuck them the straight up! Peace, Phil
Neil is my favorite but Exit Stage Left solo blows this away
I liked his old solos better. But even those were always pretty much the same. I would have preferred to see him to to improvise a solo than to keep repeating himself.
Rip Neil a Peart of rush who died of brain cancer last you was the best bro
🤘😞
Christian? I think, not sure, one of THE MOST accurate descriptions of the mans talent that I have ever heard. Fuck yeah man!🥁🐙
Yes!
HI Tex!
@@KristinKali haha I dig it! What's good girl?
no Rush! ;)
Once I knew I couldn’t equal him, I focused my energies on something other than becoming a musician.
Rush doesn't block. Go Nuts!
Ladies and gentlemen the Professor on the drumkit.
Waaww King of Drummer
They call NP "The Professor" for VERY GOOD reason!! 😎👍💜
You need to hear Neil on their song the trees!
well now we ready for some deep songs....
Rush - Cygnus X-1
go inside the black hole...
Actually, considering every TH-cam reaction has either done it, or is filed with requests for it, it's not really one of their "deep" tracks anymore. I'd argue that anything off of Hold Your Fire, Presto, Roll the Bones or Test For Echo wooed be some much deeper songs - both by popularity and emotional lyrics.
well man ok that's what you think. and I think its adeep deep song and im not talking only about the lyrics
Unlike most drummers with large kits, Neal actually uses every piece of his kit
Neil is always amazing. I'm not a big fan of drum solos - even by him. I just love Neil's playing within a song. I just think it's better.
one of my favorite drummers Im in love Your very pretty
He can probably do that with his eyes closed. Neil is amazing.
If you liked this check him out in the Time Machine live in Cleveland. 2x amazing!
RIP Neil Peart
Yes, REST in PEACE.... NEIL PEART :)
Hi Kristin, I hope you are doing well. I would love to see you react to Journey: When You Love A Woman. It's my all time favorite Journey song. Thank you so much for being here. Love your channel.❤

Take a listen to one of Neil pearts favorite drummers....mike portnoy of the band dream theater..peart gave him personal praise.
