The Nato straps do have a purpose besides changing the looks and that is protecting the watch. The strap weaves through as you shown when you undid it which secures each lug separately so if you ever snagged the watch on something or broke a pin, the watch is held on your wrist by the other pin still.

You're right. Before doing this TH-cam series, I really didn't want to spend a ton of money on equipment. I bought a point and shoot which does great pictures, but the video capabilities I discovered were lacking: it was IMPOSSIBLE to get focus at close range.
If the videos become more popular, I'll invest in something more capable.
Regardless, thanks for watching and commenting!

NATO Straps are designed to fit watches that do not have spring bars but fixed bars that cannot be pulled out. Long end through first bar followed by second bar, then through the lose end of the strap. Far more secure than spring bars. Jan Davey.

I have this watch and love it. it is now my favorite watch to wear. also very light weight.

Just got the blue one in J. It appears to be 1.5 seconds slow in 24 hours, not bad. I added a NATO and a lil button compass to the band. I like it.

Myth. I've asked seiko and said it means nothing actually.

it means it's made in Japan and has a Made In Japan label.. Japan being known for excellence gives it more appeal! yes it's just a label and may even have been made in Malaysia! But then again.. labels play a major role in how we choose the things we buy don't it. So you're wrong because it does mean something. lol

Got one of these as my ever day watch. If you want a cheap, quality, mechanical watch check out Orient. They are a Seiko subsiduary, little known in the West. They make their own mechanical movements to a very high standard and some very complicated ones too. Very accurate and well made watches with more exclusivity than Seiko if your into that kind of thing.

nice review. I've had the SNK for about 5 months now and was very happy with it, and I pulled the trigger on one of these except in the beige colour.

    Great review. Great watch.
    I went with the SNZG17J1.
Gunmetal color sets it apart a bit & the added lume to the numerals is a nice touch.
Would be curious to hear how this one is holding up for you.
    Cheers!

I like the review and you are accurate on many things with only one notable exception. You said that any Swiss made watch with a day date complication would cost thousands of dollars. There are in fact many brands such as Victorinox, Hamilton, and Tissot (all of which I believe are owned by Swatch) that incorporate these complications for a very reasonable cost in a Swiss made automatic ETA movement. An average one of these can be easily acquired for $400-1000 new. I am wearing a Swiss made Tissot Courtier automatic with day date that I got gently used on eBay for about $250. While they are not chronometer grade guaranteed, they all beat at 28,800 vph like most Rolexes, and can be adjusted as accurate as +/- 2 seconds per day. And no, I am not saying the build quality is as nice as Rolex. ;)

Thnx for the review ! Was thinking about getting a Chinese homage ( ie Pagani, Parnis, etc ) with unknown reliability narratives/crappy at best warranties, but ordered this J model from Joma Shop for a few $$$$s more / with a 3 year warranty !!Cannot wait for arrival !!!

Very nice, concise & helpful review. Is the watch still running well (accurately?) How has the proprietory crystal held up? Can you briefly elaborate on why the made in Japan version is superior? Thanks

    • @manwitham9864
      @manwitham9864  10 ปีที่แล้ว

Thanks for the kind comments! I have to be honest that I haven't worn it that much recently: it only really gets used when I travel internationally to a place I'd rather not take a Rolex. Having said that, when I do wear it, it works very well! The movement is a workhorse that is meant to be cheap, so if extreme accuracy is what you're looking for, you may want to look elsewhere. Can't beat the value/price ratio though...
As for MiJ, it's more just wanting it for extra authenticity. Seiko likely wants quality no matter where it manufactures its stuff, but as a consumer it's nice to buy things straight from the source, which for Seiko is Japan.

unless you have the rotor stamped with "japan" then your watch is made in the same factory(malaysia) as the k watches, the made in japan is for certain markets that want the "made in japan" label, usually the southeast asian/arabian markets

Only problem with that watch at the moment is, watch case is sandblasted matte look, but you got a NATO strap with polished SS links. You need to sand the links down to match the watch.

I really enjoy your videos, lots of good stuff. I am really digging the Swiss Army/ Victorinox Calvery watch, very simple with a brown leather band.

Nice! Yea I've been really happy with mine. I have it mounted on a "French Flag" blue white red NATO strap and it looks super sharp.

Great Review. I was able to get almost the same "5 series" watch, except it is a K1, that also has an exhibition case back, for $69.00. A Great Deal for a low end mechanical watch. I bought this watch for wearing everyday.

Check out the first three James Bond movies and you will see he is wearing a Rolex Sub on a RAF Nato, which doesn't have the double loop and all the metal hardware. It does fit in between both the spring bars to insure if one of the spring bars breaks you won't lose the watch and the strap altogether. I would highly recommend if you want to dive with your Rolex you use a Nato, could save you thousands of dollars.

That's the 36 mm one right? Yes, great deal though I would just warn you that they're not as water resistant as the one I reviewed, so it's perhaps not quite as good for every day, beat-the-crap-out-of-it wearing. Thanks for the comment!

Rolex doesn't make a day date in steel, only white gold, yellow gold, rose gold and platina.
Will probaly get the snzg 13. Is the made in Japan such a difference with a "regular" one?
