Im wearing snzg13j1 for a year now,i really love the design, the lume is great, you can tell the time right away on a glance,at first it tends to have an advance in time or increase for 3 minutes for a month, but i have observe that by positioning my watch on its side(crown is on top)every night when i sleep it seems the watch is working accurately since then, that i stop myself adjusting my watch every month

Nice review, Chris! I like that this one does have vibes and specs from your do it all daily wearer. 100M WR is a big perk, and has a blend of field/flieger style, nice sizing, and can be versatile with some different strap swaps for sure. Day/Date complication and workhorse automatic movement, what's not to love haha!

@@MirrlyonTime No, I got the same basic model. Mine is the strap one, though. It's a SNZG15J1 model so it''s the strap verion of the black one. I like it. It loses about 4 seconds a day. It's a 4r36 movement, so no hacking or hand winding. But every few days I "back hack" it to make the time correct-ish. Thanks for the review.
There are several things I MUST have in a watch. Two of them are 100mm WR and good-to-excellent lume. This has both. The standard Hamilton does not have either. The new titanium smaller ones that came out a month ago have better WR, but I think the lume still sucks. There's a lot I like about the Hamilton but not enough to make me pay nearly $1000 for them, which is what the new ones cost now.

@@GregMilner great points about the Hami! Plus if you look closely at the hami they skew the dial by pushing the 24 hour Arabic into the pinion next to the date window putting the 24 hour ring out of symmetry, with their day date they also cut off the 11 12 and 1 they push the 24 down doing the same making it look out of whack. I def prefer this one over that for those reasons and for the reasons you just stated. I knew about the poor wr but wasn’t aware that the lume on the hami wasn’t great

The Timex is a nice watch for its price. I bought one like you show here once and returned it because it just felt and looked too cheap to me. Like you, I have many watches, and have bought (and sold) watches for decades, none of them real expensive. I have several Seikos, one like you show here, too. I think Seiko makes a really good watch for the price and they have many different styles and sizes to choose from. Unlike you, I don't like chronographs, but have owned them in the past. My issue is what would normally be the second hand doesn't move unless the timing function is used. Plus I rarely used the chronograph function. Two things that have kept me from buying a Hamilton are that many, especially the "field" style models, don't have AR on the crystal and and the lume is generally quite poor.
Check out the Seiko Prospex Solar SNE591 Diver's watch. It has AR, a sapphire crystal, and is dive rated (waterproof). This model has a pepsi dial, but it also comes in blue (SNE593) and black (SNE589). It's thinner, as a Prospex has great lume, and is solar powered, so you don't need a winder to keep it going when not wearing. It uses the same band as your SNZG13. But, unlike a field watch, it doesn't have arabic numbers.

Hey Chris, i guess the origin of the design is the GG-W-113 (for the Timex and the Khaki), a kind of standard issue field watch for the US military in the 60s, so quite a common occurrence in the Vietnam war. Oddly enough, I am not sure what kind of military watch is my favorite. Flirted with the idea of a pure field watch like the Hami or some Smiths models. On the other hand there are some nice sort of custom made fliegers by Dekla that caught my eye. Still not decided on what I really want. And stop talking about hypotheticals Chris. 'If you only had to have one watch...' You don't and you can't and you know it:P

I love field, divers, formal, sporty...that's part of my problem...I like em all! Being a bit more serious, the display structure is pretty similar to the legendary Seiko SNK 089, which in my opinion is the most beautiful ever display with the best legibility. The only problem with that particular watch it's the kind of dinosaur movements it brings in, no hacking no Hand winding. But even with this couple of major flaws, that piece it's a real gem. Shame on you Seiko...as usual.

    • @MirrlyonTime

Indeed, from the old Seiko lineup the SNK800 series is my favorite too. The movement in all of them is the 7s26, whereas in the SNZGs, like Chris has, it is the 7s36 which as far as i know is identical apart from having an extra couple of jewels. This year Seiko released a new line of field watches, don't remember the exact references, but they are around 250USD and have the 4R36 movement which is a definite improvement. They do look much closer in design to the SNZG series, however they are too thick imho for a field watch and still only hardlex crystals.
