Yeah, Baradun, Greg and Bodger are all self-aware, in the sense they kinda do whatever they want. Baradun does stuff later on that suggests he knows it's a game, and Greg isn't too far behind him since he recognizes the adventurers can do and see things he can't. Hamish's fruit merchant character and the 2 muggers are kinda half and half since they seem to have lives and a greater range of activities beyond their NPC "jobs"
I think the only thing really holding Greg back is that he's a medieval garlic farmer who would have no idea what a video game even is, let alone realize that's he's an NPC in one. Greg doesn't have the conceptual framework to realize what he is. Baradun OTOH does have the conceptual framework to realize what he is because he's an archwizard who knows all kinds of arcane knowledge. He might not know what a video game is, but he'd know about artificial beings, manipulating reality, and so on and so forth. What's more, he travels around alot, and likely put two and two together. This is why he's such an asshole; he realizes that none of his actions are really saving the world from anything or making anything better. He knows he's just a plot device to get players to their next adventure. However, the episode with the Woodcutter makes me think that Baradun does in fact care about his world as his character is supposed to do. He wants to wake his fellow NPCs up and keep them awake. And if he has to be an asshole to do it, so be it.
That part with the "high level area" reminds me so much of dreams, where things don't interact normally lol. I could beat someone up as much as I want and it won't affect them, or rather than doing it myself I'm playing a game but the game abilities don't work right or something. Unless I'm weird for randomly trying to beat up dream NPCs to see what happens 🤣
All of them have been great but they are really coming into their own around this time. A bit more variety and some of the big hitting recurring characters getting more fleshed out. Can't wait for the house cleansing and "What's this then, peasant?" videos.
The two playing the game and arguing in chat was both funny and a bit ptsd triggering - and we got TWO of them in this video. And that "skip" marathon! "Where do I go now?"
Bera-dune (misspelled?) has always been a favorite for me. He is such a high level wizerd/spell caster that he has become self-aware and that allows him to mess with other characters. Tree chopper almost becomes aware but then programming takes over. He messes with Greg the Garlic farmer so much that Greg sees him as just an a-hole. Greg the garlic farmer is ssupposed to deal with players, so even if he is annoyed his program is to still tolerate everyone. The ultimate in customer service. Love these guys!
I love how these guys are making even gamers self aware. A a gamer I'm allowed to say that :) It's a fantastic channel, with better writing and story lines than a majority of TV or streaming show.
The vital cuts in one reminds me of a destiny 2 cutscene or even worse when you can run around and they're still just talking and talking and talking and breaking and talking and pausing and talking

It depends on the skits that you can tell that the NPC are self aware and there are other skits you can tell they are not and acting out as NPC should.

Yes the other npc are becoming aware...especially 4 of them this one Bodger, Greg, and Baelin..
I have fun with these as I play mmos. It's always funny to think about what the npcs are thinking during maintenance or something lol

They had to make the cutscenes unskippable because people kept skipping them all and not knowing where to go.
Canonically, Baradun is the only truly self-aware NPC (until much later)
Greg is only somewhat aware
