South Point (Ka Lae), Hawaii

On our last day on the Big Island of Hawaii in 2021, my husband and I decided that we absolutely had to go to the southernmost point of the United States: South Point Complex, HI. This prairie vista is home of strong winds, steep bluffs, and strong currents. It is believed that South Point is the historical landing site of the first Polynesian settlers back in 750 AD and so, scattered about are signs of settlements and shrines to the God of Fishing.
It was so incredibly hot during our visit, so I must admit that I rushed my filming -- and so this is a short and simple video.
If you are able to visit, try to budget time to also go to the Green Sand Beach (Papakolea) which consists of unique beautiful volcanic olivine sand crystals. To visit the Green Sand Beach, you'll either need a 4x4 or be capable of a 5 mile hike a hot and often windy environment.
TIP: on the way back towards Kona - try stopping at the Miranda Coffee Farm and enjoy an absolute phenomenal cup of coffee!
