    THANK YOU so much for posting this tutorial! I have been struggling with a part that makes a compound curve. It is a deceptively simple-looking offset shape, but my usual approaches were close, but not quite there. (They also required some clunky geometry, and made a mess of the Timeline.) Your use of the 3D Sketch feature is an elegant solution, which will help be confidently attempt odd shapes.

      I know this is an old comment, but it's relatively easy. You go to import then select import canvas. Then select the image from its respective folder on your PC. Then when you hit ok you get your XYZ axis and you just select what work plain you want the canvas oriented ok. Rinse and repeat for all remaining canvasses to be used.

    I use Space Pilot Pro. While its great to have a 3D mouse I'd advise anyone using a 3DConnexion product to do a lot of research. Getting the damn things to work properly is like pulling teeth. Drivers are a nightmare, specs contradictory and support nonexistent. It really was an infuriating experience. That being said, I use it with Fusion 360, Blender, Maya and some others on both Mac OS and windows. I find it really useful for 3D sketches as navigating with the mouse while sketching and changing planes gets really confusing, really fast. This video is great, and beautifully explained. It took me a long time to break out of solid mode because surfaces won't stitch if not properly sketched. Thank you.

    Great video, as always. I'd love to see a video on how to model a wristwatch. Like remaking a Rolex Submariner or any other watch. I always have problems with the round curves and hard edges, that watches have in close proximity. I find them quite hard to model and I think seeing a tutorial about this with some insights and tips would be interesting to your viewers.

    I'm curious why you didn't keep the centerline (front to back) spline and use it as a control curve for your surface creation? It seems you have lost all the detail you were trying to achieve in the beginning. How does your new surface compare with the canvases?

    Hi, nice tutorial. Just a thought here. Have you actually considered using the intersection curve tool to create the complex curve instead? This would involve creating splines on the top and right planes separately using the picture as a guide and then projecting one to the other. With this, there is no need to manually move each point.

    • @Fusion360NewbiesPlus
      @Fusion360NewbiesPlus  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes I have. My videos are not so much about the models but mostly about the techniques 😉

    • @smithe53

      This would also create a much more complex 3d spline instead of the low cv sounds he has currently.

    Thank you for this video -- VERY helpful.
    However, I would like to try mirror my 3D sketch rather than first create a patch on one side of the model as as you have done here. Is that impossible? I ask because my Fusion360 refuses to mirror a 3D line sketch no matter what I try. Mirroring sketch lines works okay in one plane only? I am a beginner in Fusion360 and find it very challenging, coming from other programs.
    Thanks again!

    Newbie here, I know the video is old, but very helpful. Just a question. I see you right clicked the original straight line and added control splines, but when I right click it, this option is not in the drop down menu. I have done it a few times and it did pop up, but not sure why it did or how I was able to make that option appear. Can you shed some light?

    • @HarryHeck2020
      @HarryHeck2020 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@alabrrmrbmmr Yes, the patch command just does an average curvature by creating a patch surface and trimming it to the control splines. The profile center line that he had previously set up had no effect on the final result.

    The steps you took to clean up the ridge at 20:00 are not clear. Not sure what you did there with the projected sketch and how that smoothed out the ridge. Otherwise, really helpful to know this process of 3D sketching the way you used it. Normally I see TH-cam videos of people making S-shaped chairs + pipe command with 3D sketches.

    • @kevinbartlett7090

      I was confused about that, too. I think the magic happens at 19:03, where he makes a new 3D sketch using only the outer edges of the shape (i.e., not the centre line).
