In my opinion there should only be a grille on the outside of the door, The inside grille is creating more static resistance on airflow. Not a lot, but it adds up.

I probably would have just left the inner grill off, there's no reason to have one on the inside like that.
Tenants particularly need instruction on how to maintain household appliances. Back in my renter days, at the first opportunity appliances came apart for a deep clean - including the HVAC. Amazing the nuggets that could be found from previous tenants. Finds included a 20-yo money stash and a 12-piece votive candle set.
They also can hide in the return space duct jewels and rifles, etc. I've seen them all; no kidding!
Shocked someone went to the expense of installing 2 grills on the door instead of just the front 🤷♂️

You certainly would end up with an allergy cold after that. That's something a lot of people don't think about. When you have bad allergies you literally get sick.
If you turn data off on the phone the Fieldpiece app opens much quicker!

They should have put a grill only on the outside.. haveing one on the inside also just creates a dust trap

With that kind of restriction in airflow I'd check pressures again after cleaning.

Most of these people don't vacuum their filter grills , their boilers rooms, refrigerator,but the outside unit was clean.
Years ago a company I worked for had us installing residential air handlers in a downflow configuration in mobile homes. Owner thought it was a good idea to use the versions with the ecm blower motors. Needless to say blower motors started to fail not even 4 months in and they were a nightmare to replace. The owners son had the bright idea to run the lineset THROUGH the cabinet hiding them. So some poor soul had to pump the system down, cut the lines and replace the blower motor. 1 hour job turned into a 2 1/2 hour job pretty quickly.
That looked like a piece of carpet
I think you need to put a filter in the door otherwise the evaporator coils are gonna get plugged up and then you’ll have to have a bigger job you keep keep up the good work!
the filter was laying on top the air handler, directly above the evaporator coil and it's a downflow unit, with ducts under the floor/in crawl space.
Worked on house identical to that layout lol thought the ecobee stat was odd addition
That filter gets cleaned once every ten years, whether it needs it or not.

I use that same Fieldpiece stuff, I hate how if you have little to no service the app will not work, and when you get service, you have to log back in. So frustrating

yes, any sort of vacuum cleaner with a brush on the end would have made short work of that dust indoors.
Fieldpiece needs to figure out a better system.

I think a sheet of 1/2” plywood would have better air flow than that grill. They could have not cut the door out and it would been the same. 😂

Cold air flowing through the return collects moisture, the moisture collects dust, the dust collects moisture, the moisture collects dust, the... well it continues till a nice fur coat is achieved.
I would expect that room to look a lot worse if they vented the dryer into the room.

If the duct work has not been redone then that air handler is not correct. Mobile homes are high velocity duct systems. Guaranteed the blower has been replaced a few times.

At least they had a vent in the door. I see way too many furnace closets with zero venting. I remove the door, andbtell the customer to have somone install a vent.
That's the first furnace I have seen suffering from Severe Asthma and COPD. Poor thing was suffocating.

Hey Curtis, not an a c tech, but I do have a question. With a blockage like that.Should you not have checked the pressures again? They seemed normal for a cool day, under normal conditions. But that blockage is not normal. Do you think the pressures could have risen enough ,after cleaning, to be considered overcharged? Just curious by nature.

If I were the owner I would be very concerned About the animals that can get under the house through the hole the A/C lines run through. Possums and racoons love to live under mobile homes and can make a lot of noise at night. I speak from experience.

I don't think so, especially if you never clean it.
No it doesn't for the return. Cleaning the grill and changing the air filter every 3 to 4 months is crucial. Those systems NEED to breathe!!!
@@OGHVAC In a placelike that you need to change filters weekly! I used to service a place where they made dentures and filters had to be replaced twice a day. Too much porcelane dust!
Curtis you removed filter grille a couple of times but never put a filter in place. Why?
Since the furnace was a downdraft furnace the filter goes on top of the Furnace where the return is, the filter should be put in the door otherwise there's going to be lint all over everything inside the closet.
There were a lot of ghost turds on that vent.

While the air flow will probably hold the filter in place, did you quote them a real filter box to make sure it stays in place?
The landlord must be disabled, elderly, or a slacker to need you to take care of such basic maintenance. But hey, you didn't need to listen to a smoke alarm chirping!
The battery was probably completely dead.
Landlord may not live close enough to do maintenance at all.
The landlord or representative seems to be getting the unit ready to rent, and more than likely while onsite thought it wasn't cooling properly, or is following up on a no cool complaint. Breaker was off when Curtis arrived. Lady left the door unlocked for Curtis. Highly unlikely a middle-aged or older lady is going to carry a screw driver in her hand bag and be prepared to start changing filters or cleaning grills. Unlike Men, they tend to wait and let a pro deal with it.

What is it with the filter thing anyway? Just unbelievable. It needs a filter vent, either in that door or on the unit, or both. It was so clogged you could see where the air was sucking around the door. If they would put a filter vent in that door, not that they would do it, but it could be cleaned easier. I would have to do something to the unit also, I don't like the evaporator open like that. Where is common sense going now days? What a world. Nice Job
filter is laying on top the air handler cabinet, it's a downflow unit that works fine. yeah, it look better with a slide in filter rack there, but not really needed.

think I'd make the inside grille vanish into the garbage. nobody should have the door open to look at it anyway and if the outer has the fins pointed down outward it should be pretty hidden.
Probably just need the return grill on the out side of the door, really no need for one on the inside of the door.
