- After receiving some constructive criticism in a comment, I decided to make a video of the two stroke engines I've worked on in my videos, with no music! I have a 1989 Johnson GT 150 on an ‘89 Basscat. It was in storage for 21 years. New plugs, wires, filter and a carb rebuild and she runs like a top. Hits 60MPH and looks brand new. I freakin love it and yours looks exactly the same- same color too. Have a blast!
Had an Evinrude XP200. Miss it. She was a screamer!

Hey Neighbor! I'm from Bastrop too. I live on Lake Whitney now. I have an 89 Evinrude XP 150 2 Smokes. I bought it off craigslist about 5 years ago. I resealed the lower unit and replaced the voltage regulator and stator. That engine is so great. It mounted on a huge pontoon boat and it has plenty of power to pull skiers. I've gone through over time and replaced all the electronics and wiring. Now I'm working on restoring the cowling. Those old Johnson Evinrudes are the best.
The moment I saw her smoke I could smell that 2 stroke aroma…that was always such a sweet smell. WOT sound in the 150 was nice. Could almost feel the wind in my face

I bought a 2990 cajun 17 ft bass boat great condition hung in a boat house for years. started looking outboard and I always had V4s. I found a 1978 evinrude compersion was 120 on all 4 cylinders love the the old 2 strokes.
If I may, there is still some work to be performer on the 25 hp as those typically start on first or second pull and run decent at low rpms even when cold. Here's my recipe: 1. Flush your fuel line prior to plugging it to the engine before each outing, 2. Check for air leaks and proper functionning of all components all through the fuel system (from the fuel pick-up in the tank all the way to the spark plugs), giving special attention to the engines primer system (If so equiped). I finf that procedure to solve 90 % of poor starting/running issues on these small engines. Happy 2-stroke motoring !
I love the sounds and smells of a 2 stroke. Diesel engines burn oil too, so why did they outlaw 2-strokes? Simple, easy maintenance, great power, easy to hop up, serviceable by us backyard mechanics. Too many benefits to list them all. So, why outlaw the 2-strokes? People who hate people.
Fortunately they are still legal to run here but they cannot produce them anymore due to the regulations put in place. As to why, and how much more emissions they produce than diesel, unfortunately I do not know! Thank you for watching!

The evinrude V4 were nice engines.The Jonhson Strike Force V6 were beasts.

revving that 2 cyl up without load is a great way to destroy rod bearings and your crank, as well as reeds. nothing over 1500 on the hose. you were adjusting the idle speed for some reason as well. also sounded like it was only running on 1 cyl for a bit

Your cowl is on proper on front. I have 88 150 xp and if you pump primer up till very hard it starts on second turn over when cold
Thanks for watching! Yes, the cowl had given me problems on that boat because it was messed up! This engine had other issues which caused hard start conditions.
A 2 stroke will be across the lake, fish for an hour, and be back before a 4 stroke could get on Plane

No, I sold this boat and have the 4 stroke mercury now. However if another one came along for a good price I’d grab it!
What prop do you have on engine. I'm running Raker 2 with plugs in 23 pitch
