Great to see the side-by-side; I thought mine looked better, but the comparison drives it home. It’s too bad this wasn’t the initial release software, because that first wave of impressions and reviews would have been quite different. On the other hand, this probably gets them another bump in interest as the algorithm resurfaces the device in people’s feeds with praise for the improvements.
Just noticed that with the contrast filter set to "adaptive" the page transitions in ebooks are much less distracting and more look other e-ink devices (still without ghosting) - interesting!
Thank you for this very exciting update, I would nevertheless recommend to wait for your own device to update from 3.15 to 3.16 to conclude about the causal effect of wrong calibration on the yellowishness of the screen : I remember seing side by side RMPP - same release - demonstrating differences in white/yellowish background aspect of the screen. Maybe is it a deeper and production issue rather than software issue. Let's see what will happen with the final 3.16 release. Testimonies from this community will be interesting for potential future customers
Nice, I don't know if the real image is the same as on the video, but on the video the leopard looks sharper too. They now made what I gave as a suggestion to improve things: to autodetect parts of a page as text or graphic, and apply the filter selectively. I thought it would not be possible, but they already did it, wow! The colour gradations look a lot better as well.
Thank you for this video. I'm really excited about this update. Thank you for going in return and for living my dream of having four remarkables lol. Subbed.
Could You check if the more white background is indeed caused by a software update? For example, could You check a specific page on a specific document on both devices. Then, when You update the left/darker tablet to the 3.16 software, You could check if there are still differences between those two. Because this may be caused either by the update or by some differences in the screen itself.
Absolutely, when the other device receives the update, I intend to check that. However, software updates most definitely can improve this kind of a thing on this panel, as they have the complete control over how they drive the panel. Also, to dispute the rumor-mill at the core as well, both devices are of the same age, so the first batch of units, both were received on the same exact day. It will be interesting to see if there are differences in hardware between different units of the same "age".
@MyDeepGuide I wonder how much brighter can the screen get? There must be some limit, but I wonder how much the darkness of the screen is caused by it's hardware properties/components and how much by the way the particles are controlled. Nevertheless, thank You very much for the great content, as usual. Can't wait to see further discoveries. 😉
@@MyDeepGuide Please Voya, when you come back from vacation, don't forget to check if the update is the cause of the whitening of the background. It would be great if that were the case!
Great review. Please publicly encourage the company to move the type folio functions toward a true word processor. I have spent quite a bit of money on the new RM Pro and type folio and that functioning remains rudimentary. Oh, yes, please also encourage them to improve the brightness of the front light, which I believe they can do through a software update. There is a general consensus that it needs to be brighter. Thank you.
Thank you. I got the paper pro last month but will be returning even though I am on the beta. The dim light on the color screen is unusable for me in the daytime and the low contrast compared to other eink devices. I thought my eyesight gor worse and even made an appointment to update my prescription. You also mentioned it here when comparing remarkable 2 and the boox go 10.3. I am using it as a student for pdf annotating and the text not being contrast enough is so distracting when I got this for reading and writing. The writing is great though and I like the software even though it is limited. I thought even the bw remarkable 2 which has better contrast due to being bw than paper pro would be enough and I see now I can't use anything less thanb300 dpi for black for dedicated pdf reading. The pups on paper pro are good but its not adequate for pdf reading for me especially invombination with the dim light for an color screen. Ill be getting the note max for school and should of just waited even though I needed something.
thanks for the update! since the system wide Tagging-System is a huge benefit of the reMarkable system I do miss some comments about the changes to the Tagging system - but I‘ll find it out as soon as the update has arrived here :-)
I did recognize the great improvements when it comes to colour with the update 3.16. Even with the readability of text inside coloured books. But not with a brighter background. Your one looks so great that i'm asking myself if something is wrong with mine. Is this possible?
I was reading various discussions that early devices simply have a yellower screen and the newer ones are whiter hinting at a hardware issue. Voja, when both devices are off, how do they compare? I'm wondering if the yellow tint can really be remedied with software or if it is indeed a hardware issue? Thank you as always for such detailed analysis!
Yellow tint can definitely be remedied by a software update as this is something that software calibration can tell the display driver basically "how hard to push it". However, once my RMPP gets the update 3.16 I will check it and report back if there are differences between both devices, when they are running the same update. Also, both devices are the first batch, sent out and received on the same exact day, so there is no difference in "age".
I think the quality of updates was hindered due to a software implementation of rMPP. So now they have it and can focus on improving through updates. I am curious about what things will be add and made better.
Don't forget about important company management changes as well. I think that what you said, in combination with internal changes also is something that might give Remarkable an opportunity to gradually change certain things, to the better. Or I hope at least 😁
I wonder how many RMPPs were returned because of the poor pdf colour and contrast rendering which has been improved with this update so soon after release.
Nope, both units were sent out on the same exact day and received the same exact day. You shouldn't believe everything you hear, only the things that provide some kind of facts or evidence behind it to back the claims, if they are of significant importance.
I wish Remarkable would release a software update that eliminated the post-stroke flickering that happens when writing in color. A dealbreaker to me. 😕
Yes this is a specialized ePaper focused review channel, and an opportunity to offer a real back to back look at what the update brings to the platform for the viewers. What's the point of the comment, I'm curious, so can you please clarify it to me so that I don't make a wrong assumption?
The "yellowness" of the left RM is there from the beginning. It's even in the UI. Watch your video, maybe it's more pronounced than in real life. As if the screen degraded into yellow with time? I presume the left one got much more use from you. Visible at 3:27. I wouldn't say that's the calibration of the white. The yellowness is not uniform. It's actually visible throughout the whole RMPro section. When you view your guide PDF, I know, it's still a PDF, but the background is white, there shouldn't be much difference cause of the filters. On the video it's tremendous. The left one is so much more yellow than the right one.
This is day and night difference on ReMarkable Paper Pro. Amazing to see it side by side, thank you!
Thanks Voya, always great to see your updates!
This is VERY exciting. Now I can't wait until my Paper Pro gets the update!

Thanks for covering the update! Wish there were something to be done about the refresh flashing. That's a hard no for me
Excellent summary and explanation of these improvements! Really helpful!
Thank you for your insights on the RMPP.
Thanks for the great and helpful comparison! Keep up your excellent work!

@FredericTourand Indeed ! The difference in the blue is so huge ! Hard to believe that that is just software calibration

The difference in the white background is very noticeable.

Definitely, these are good news. Its time to change my old boox 7.8 inches. Very useful video.

Quite a nice update. More layout options will seem a minor improvment compared to the color. It is quite nice though. Thanks for the video.
Wow, pages look way whiter. Is this really just the update or a settings thing?
Same document, same everything, except the update. It's quite a difference.
@@MyDeepGuideBut how much of the difference is due to the possible difference between the two RMPPs?
They were identical when I compared them before the update.

You have waaaay too many ReMarkables lying around 😅
Surprised to see how much they've improved the yellow screen!
I wonder how many RMPPs were returned because of the poor pdf colour and contrast rendering which has been improved with this update so soon after release.
Can you, pls, provide link to download the color pallete sheet? Thank you Voya! I have version 3.16.0.63
I have the 3.16 but not the new contrast effects? I am in developper mode for boosting the light
Hey MDG, is the 3.16 RMPP newer? I heard the new panels are whiter than the first batch?
Nope, both units were sent out on the same exact day and received the same exact day.
You shouldn't believe everything you hear, only the things that provide some kind of facts or evidence behind it to back the claims, if they are of significant importance.
Would you share that color PDF you're using please?
It would be nice if they would update the typing with more formatting features.
Any idea how long we typically wait between beta and final release?
Two videos within an hour? Is it a scheduling error?
Yupps, but I noticed it too late, and I'm just letting it be. Remarkable update video was supposed to come out this Friday
Is the screen whiter even when the device is off?
Funny… my RM PP is still on Version 3.15.4.2

too bad, the flickering is very terrible...
