i keep getting stuck due to my left hand pressing the wrong notes, do you have any tricks for getting a better spacial perception of where are the notes in the piano?
@@LiaLia0407 late reply but I learned this one by watching my left hand and playing the right hand by touch since all the notes are right there. It was weird at first but made a huge difference once I tried it
it's been 3 days since i started this, and with ABSOLUTELY no piano experience, i can almost play the entire thing (obviously it's a bit messy) so thank you for this video it's perfectly explained :)
It’s hard to say how this piece makes me feel. Is sublimely melancholic and it evokes a sense of the battle is won, but the war is not over and the victory was very bittersweet.
Awesome, great instructional style, Finally, someone explaining it to me like I'm a six year old, lol, which is about the level of my playing but I think I can tackle this with all the detailed instruction, especially with finger placement, etc, Thanx so much for this awesome vid, Kudos. ;-)
I just found this video today and I am already able to play this fluently thanks to your clear instructions. Thank you for making this video. I dont know what I would have done without it 🙏🙏🙏🙏 It’s my favorite piece of all time and I’m glad I am able to play it for my father.
I heard this song a while ago, and then again just a few days ago and decided i wanted to learn how to play it despite going around four to five years without playing a single note. I have small hands so its a bit hard to play the three chords but its coming along nicely and i can’t wait to be able to play the whole thing, thanks for this video!
im learning to play this for my wife. why do i love her so much. it drives me crazy. i stare at her sleep listening to this song in my headphones that she got me, just smelling her hair and skin all night. i want to get her a keyboard as a gift. not a piano but like a real typing keyboard so she can respond to my emails faster. my first born Dolores said that maybe her mom/my wife will respond if i get a piano and learn this song for her so i did. oh by the way did i tell you guys that the keyboard im typing this on lights up with different colors. its so cool. anyway i love you guys. xoxo
i’m working on nocturne in e flat major op 9 no 2, and i’m playing that over and over again getting used to it, so i guess jumping around in the left hand ain’t too hard for me, i’m gonna start this piece, it’s soo good, so for that thank you for the video!
Ordered a keyboard yesterday, will get it later tonight and this is the first piece I want to learn. Ever since the first time I heard this song I've been in love with it
Love this piece and always played an arrangement of it on guitar. Now trying it out as a beginning piano player, it's astounding how little my experience on guitar helps. Getting there, though. I do feel like the left hand jumping will serve me well in terms of training it to have a sense of space/distances in the future.
This song is meant to be played much slower, alternating pianissimo and mezzo forte... but I understand you needed to make it faster for the sake of a short video😜
Never played piano, I play guitar and learned this song on it and now I’m here to learn on piano and it’s amazing, I’m using an app as a piano rn though lol, maybe someday I will play this masterpiece on a real one...
Don't push through pain--that's usually a sign that you're ready for a break/stretch! Shake it off, then return to practice by tackling small, manageable chunks. Slow it way down, and be patient with yourself. Good luck! :)
I've had some experience playing guitar and bass guitar for a couple of years, but this is my first time actually learning a piano song. Wondering if this is a good song to start learning since I've always loved this song, and also realize that it's a slow tune that might be worth my while learning even if it takes a while.
I think this would be a good one to try, for all the reasons you mentioned. Worth a shot! You may also like browsing this playlist: th-cam.com/video/Fz1ywSqAnTU/w-d-xo.html
Anyone got tips on how to really nail down the jumping with the left hand? When looking directly at the keys I can do it pretty accurately but slowly, when I look away from the bass notes and just focus on the middle of my keyboard I keep missing the bass note. Trying to figure out how to build muscle memory for that effectively. This is the first song I’m learning too, absolutely love this piece.
Great q, Robby! The pedal is your friend here--since it's sustaining the upper part of the chord, use that time to reset and get your pinky back down in place well before you need to play it. I would just loop those first couple left hand chords 0:29 to 0:32 and practice those movements. The nice part about this piece is that once you have the movement down, it will go a long way since the harmony is so repetitive! Start slowly and be patient. --Luke
It is a bit frustrating getting the pinky on the right notes but I’ll keep at it, I’ll try slowing down some more. Thanks for the quick response, and thank you for the tips! Much appreciated!
I really love this! Nice teaching, clear instructions too. Maybe when doing the “slow play through” go a little slower cause I got a bit messed up haha 😅 thanks a lot!
Thanks for the nice comment! The video player at HDpiano.com lets you slow down playback-from mobile AND desktop-for all videos. We also built a custom looping tool that allows the viewer to focus on those extra challenging spots. If you're not interested in trying our site, you can use the speed controls on TH-cam desktop to slow down playback.
@@HDpiano Thanks, I have the printout of the score, but can you suggest where I can find a sheet with the fingerings you suggest in your video? Thanks!
So I watched few lessions, still learning. But can you tell me, when playing a song do you memorize the keys or do you memorize the notes. I know about chords but I don't know how to apply that in songs because there are so many inversions of each chord. So i just end up memorizing the keys and can only play songs with one hand.
We often use sheets to stay on track, but when attempting to memorize I use a combination of chord positions and melodic fragments. Muscle memory is a big aspect, too!
You bet! Practice by tackling small, manageable chunks. In this case, practice just left hand alone for a while, working on getting the hand in position while the pedal is holding the low single bass note. Notice that most of the chords the left hand plays has F# as the top note. Let that be a guide as you get your hand in position. Slow it way down, and be patient with yourself. Good luck! :)
