I absolutely adore the lost continent. As a regular Floridian theme park I do get said when I see these days how this land just kinda....exists now. I would love to see it updated and improved. Never get rid of Poseidon's Fury however. That's a classic. Cheesy but amazing
BeardedWonder 756 they should update it even just a little bit. Like having live actors as the gods duel in front of us instead of on the big screen at the end
They could have kept Dueling Dragons in the Harry Potter world and it still would have fit within the world, it's a shame they got rid of it, because the line set was one of the fun parts of the ride.
If Eisner decided to go with Beastly Kingdom, Lost Continent would never have been built, then the Wizarding World may not have been created, Pandora would never have been created, and Disney would never have been pushed by Universal's success to build Galaxies Edge, which probably wouldn't have motivated Universal to go ahead with Nintendo land, and so on ans so fourth.
@Random Person I don't know about Disneyland but I just went to Hollywood Studies earlier this month and it was both great and crowded. Certainly not a flop in Orlando.
Wow, no wonder the Lost Continent has always been my favorite area in a Universal park! Even without rides and despite the Sinbad show being a flop, the area is truly captivating and immersive.
The lost continent as it was originally debuted was truly amazing. I miss it. I was present during the sneak peak soft opening of islands of adventure. Everything was still in its testing phase.
I love the Lost Continent, the Temple of Poseidon, and the Mystic Fountain. And I've got to say: Universal has DEFINITELY out-Disneyed Disney with the incredibly immersive Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Can't wait to experience the NEW Hagrid's Motorbike Adventure!
It's in a weird state of limbo where it needs some updates to keep it fresh, but we would hate to lose Poseidon's Fury. Hopefully the land is safe at least until Universal reveals more about their upcoming third park and a lot of their construction focus goes over to there! - Luke
I would love to see a video of what the NEW universal theme park on the nearby 1,000 acres is going to be like. It will be larger than their three current Orlando theme parks combined. Lets hope they break all the molds and do something truly immersive and amazing.
It's a real damn shame the final pieces of this incredible land are likely to be pulled soon. If rumors for the new way they're splitting up Nintendo licenses is true, we can kiss goodbye to the greatest walkthrough attraction to currently exist
Yeah the current rumours of replacing this area with a Legend Of Zelda themed land are very interesting, especially as a lover of the Zelda franchise, but I will truly miss this land if they ever close it. - Luke
In 2016 I went to Florida with friends, 5 parks in 5 days. Universal was day 3 and Poseidon's Fury was our first stop. It broken down about half way through, our guide disappeared and after several minutes of us all standing there next to the noisy and humid roaring tunnel of water effect, an emergency exit door open and a voice over the PA system requested we exit. Not a very auspicious start to the day.
I keep scratching my head over the Avatar land. I'm one of those who never did get around to seeing Avatar, but that's neither here nor there. What baffles me is why did Disney decide to theme an entire land around a movie that had seen its heyday almost ten years ago? And as impressive as its special effects were, the hype over it seemed to have died down and, it seemed, people were no longer that crazy about the movie--from what I've heard, it seemed to be lacking in the character department. I'd much rather have seen them do something Fantasia-themed in time for the movie's 80th anniversary--that's something that's proven to stand the test of time, and they could've done something with the hippos/ostriches/elephants from Dance of the Hours, as well as Chernabog, and maybe something Greek-mythology themed for the Pastoral Symphony sequence as a sort of Beastly Kingdom-lite...
When Avatar came out it exploded becoming the highest grossing movie of all time. Disney wanted to cash in on that since BK was not gonna happen. They needed something big at the time that would fit with the themes of conservation and animals since AK was in desperate need. Avatar fits in with AK, while retaining that fantasy element which explores animals that never existed (part of the concept exploring animals of today, the past, and fantasy). James Cameron planned to have the sequels not to far from then, so Disney thought it was a good idea (they didn't own Star Wars yet), so they signed the deal. But the sequels kept getting delayed, year after year. Disney started construction, so it was too late to back peddle. Patience for the Avatar sequels were getting lost and this made Disney nervous. Cameron kept promising sequels but there was no sign of that happening until 2017 when he finished the script for 4 sequels and has currently finished up filming 2 and 3. Pandora opened and to this day FOP still has lines up to 3-4 hours almost everyday. The deal paid off. In a sense, it's helping generate interest in the Avatar sequels, to then help Disney, especially since they own it now after the Fox deal. Cameron sequels/movies take time, so it's not a surprise. T2 was 7 years after the first Terminator, Avatar was 12 years after Titanic. So, it's paid off for Disney. We'll see if Pandora will pay off for the sequels. The ball is in Cameron's court now depending how good they will be.
@@jmz8210 Gotcha. (But I'd still like Fantasia to have SOME sort of presence in Orlando, one day. I mean, there's part of Fantasmic and Mickey's Philharmagic, but I'd like something REALLY major to represent one of Disney's most stunning classics.)
@@jenniferschillig3768 Totally understand. Fantasia is really underutilized. It should have more of a presence in the parks. It's actually quite visually stunning, especially considering the time it was made ☺
I love Poseidon's Fury. I hope they never take it away for Harry Potter. I love the Wizarding World of Harry Potter (and Disney), but I just love the experience of the attraction and the working effects especially the water tunnel! -- K
I would personally love an entire park - not just a single land - themed after ancient myths and folklore, like what The Lost Continent was doing. Tokyo DisneySea does something similar, with its theming being ports of call around the world, and it's arguably the best theme park in the world due to its meticulous theming, beautiful sets, and attention to detail. That, I think, proves that an entire park dedicated to The Lost Continent could work, if done properly. People never get tired of mythology.
One of my most cherished theme park mementos is a keychain for the original version of Dueling Dragons. It is a small wooden shield which has both the fire and ice dragons on opposing sides and at the push of a button lights up their respective fire/ice breath.
I'm still irrationally angry about Beastly Kingdom never getting built. I was about 8-9 when Animal Kingdom opened and I was so looking forward to "phase 2". Pandora is pretty, sure, but I wanted Dragons! And then I never even got to see the Lost Continent.
I remember going on a field trip to Islands and going to Poseideons fury but this one guy in my group kept pushing everybody in the dark room and we all got kicked out of the ride. Great video and love that smooth jazz music at the end! I went to Universal Orlando first time a few years back and was amused and awestruck by those structures but the group I was with was like yeah you don't want to be over there its just a bunch of crap, but I had no idea that it was like that at all. So cool!
What a shame you didn't get to experience what still remains of The Lost Continent, hopefully next time you get the chance to visit at least some of it will still be around! - Luke
Disneyland Paris' opening really was not a failure. The actual attendance was close to the projections. The issue was the six resort hotels that opened alongside The Magic Kingdom. Each was expensive, and Paris proper was only about 30 miles away. Most people visiting could stay in Paris for the same price and take a high-speed train to the newly-built T.G.V. station that was at the entrance to Disneyland Paris.
Harry Potter has brought the park so much more money, esp since they added Diagon Alley, they just need to tear down the other half of the lost continent and add more Potter themed stuff! Hogsmeade is so small anyways when it’s crowded, just add more to it.
So, Beastly Kingdom lives on with what's left of the Lost Continent. Kinda sad really. It was doomed from the beginning. I'm glad we have the Wizarding World and Pandora, but one can't help but wonder how it would've been if it stuck with the original plans. It won't be long till Lost Continent becomes exactly that. Lost forever.
I think the Sinbad shoe should be turned into an E ticket attraction. If there isn’t enough room they could always use one of the empty soundstage nearby at the sister park. Poseidon’s Fury should stay but should receive updates.
I was lucky enough to visit IOA during its soft opening and after. I was obsessed with its development from the moment I walked through the IOA preview center at US. I was absolutely blown away by the detail and to this day believe the queue for Dueling Dragons was the best I’ve ever experienced back then. The original version of Poseidon’s Fury featuring Keeper was a spectacular experience and the changes made to the attraction shortly after ruined the attraction for me forever. Though I love Harry Potter, I wish there was a way that Lost Continent could have been saved. I still wonder what ever happened to that beautiful stained glass skylight that was installed in the tavern.
I wish I got to experience the original version of Poseidon’s just to see the differences. Whilst the story is a bit corny, the effects are still spectacular to see to this day. - Luke
ReviewTyme The original made so much more sense. Zeus(Keeper) was the hero and Poseidon was the villain. The battle was more impressive with lasers and fire and water effects. The final “magical” reveal was truly awe inspiring. I wish I still had my photos from back then.

I never got to visit Islands of Adventure when Merlinwood was there, but it kind of reminds me of a technologically enhanced Renaissance Fair, and I mean that in the best way because I love a good Ren fair. The thing is, if they expand HP into the rest of the Lost Continent area, what would they build? We already have Hogsmeade and Hogwarts and Universal got Diagon Alley, so what would they put there? The issue with The Ministry of Magic or The Burrow is that they would seem out of place being near Hogwarts. Maybe something with the Black Lake or Shrieking Shack? Hagrid’s motorbike adventure is already sort of the forest.
There was a theme park being built in North Carolina called Whirligig Woods. It was being built by a former Disney Imagineer, and I was wondering if you could make a video on it.
I was there in August 2010 with my family... I think Universal Grossly underestimated it's popularity as they had run out of Butterbeer... the Ride through the Castle was not able to accommodate guests of a certain figure, so I missed out on that but All in all the Islands of adventure was a great adventure for us we had a 2 day pass so first day Islands of adventure and second day the main Universal studio theme park fun had by all
I really feel like this land is not going to survive in the future. With the closure of Sinbad, Poseidon's Fury, and of course Dueling Dragons I feel like this section is first on the chopping block if Universal ever needs the space. It's a shame because the architecture and layout with all the fountains and that grecian vibe were fantastic.
The theming of rides and lands in Disney is far superior to Universal. To me, IOA feels like a glorified 6 flags. Building a rollercoaster and giving it a name is not a themed ride.
Not sure if I'm in the majority or not, but I favor the original Poseidon's Fury before the show was retooled. The current one is ok, but the first was great!
while this may or may not have been designed by the people behind beastly kingdom, I only see the relevance between the dragon and unicorn existing, they were vastly different experiences than were premised
I come from a Disney family that only goes to universal to get volcano nachos from the Margaritaville at universal. Didn't know something was present at the Harry Potter location before it was there
Honestly now the only thing Lost Continent has to offer is Mythos. Poseidon's Fury is outdated, personally I think Universal doesn't care about this land even temporarily closing it during covid 19.
It seems like the perfect IP to use in that section of Island's of Adventure. The big temple for Poseidon's Fury would easily translate into a Zelda Dungeon-themed attraction. A Sheikah Tower from Breath of the Wild would be a worthy successor to the Trident Statue as a landmark. If they want to keep a similar aesthetic to the Sinbad area, they could always base it off of Gerudo Town. They could probably keep Mythos, as the general theme of it would still meld with the Zelda universe adequately. They could have a lot of fun with unique food options as well, supplying Red and Blue potions as drinks (along with Lon Lon Milk) and meals based on the cooking in Breath of the Wild (complete with purple Monster Desserts).
I think that Disney should have gone with Beastly Kingdom instead of Fern gully in space because their have been no Avitar movies since the first one and many people are forgetting about it and yes they keep telling us that a new movie is on the way but it has yet to happen so I think to do with Beastly Kingdom.
if the lost continent has to go, which sadly is plausible since at the moment it's not really all that eventful, PLEASE let it be Hyrule. Because I will genuinely be annoyed if it just becomes more Harry Potter. It was already bad enough that dueling dragons is gone....
Hyrule would also be more likely to preserve the general feel and aesthetic that Lost Continent was going for, while also providing a fresh spin. There would definitely still be a Temple attraction, as Temples/Dungeons are the core of the series. Mythos could easily stay open with minimal retheming. The Sinbad's Bazaar area could even keep a similar aesthetic if they want to take some inspiration from Gerudo Town. I love the Harry Potter areas, but it's got more than enough of a presence already.
I read a rumor they are making the 5th park Beastly Kingdom (possibly Dominion) right next to Animal Kingdom. The lands would consist of a central Dragon section (Discovery Island), an Egypt section (Africa), Australia (Asia), a Stars Wars snow planet (Dinoland) and Fantasia (Pandora).
Animal Kingdom is one of the best parks in Orlando (Islands of Adventure is #1). Dinoland sucks, but the rest of the park more than makes up for it. The beastly kingdom could have worked - and still sounds better than Avatar land. Islands is an amazing park, and the Lost Continent was always the best looking part.
I've always thought Animal Kingdom is underrated; it took many years and multiple expansions to live down its opening-day reputation as a half-day park with very little to do. But it's got some of Disney's best theming, and it has good rides now. Dinoland USA does need to be reimagined or replaced (making roadside cheesiness the theme is just too blatant an attempt at cost-cutting through irony). Though I'd hate to see Dinosaur go away--it's one of my favorite Disney rides.
And she did it out of pure Ego. She is also the cause of flesh-toned Legos because she bent the company's arm, insisting if they wanted to continue making Harry Potter products after the first wave, she get realistic flesh tones. Seriously, J.K. Rowling - Pure Ego.
Disney was always shooting for that, and sometimes succeeded--to my eyes, the Magic Kingdom version of Main Street, USA is incredibly immersive. But Rowling pushed Universal to take it several steps further than anyone had before.
I mean, Islands of Adventure and Lost Continent were a huge step forward for Universal. But I wouldn't say they ever got near the levels of immersion that Disney was achieving. Universal has certainly narrowed the gap, but Disney still has an attention to detail and ability to tell stories within attractions that Universal is lagging behind.
I still don't get why people care about Avatar. It's really not that good. Why do people like it so much? The Beastly Kingdom would likely have been more interesting and better fitting.
In all honesty, I believe Pandora actually fits better than Beastly Kingdom theming-wise. BK didn't really have themes of conservation which is the essence of AK. It was more of a cool land. Pandora does both, what with the visuals that made Avatar become the juggernaut that it is. Plus, James Cameron and Disney are working together since the Fox merger which makes Avatar belong to Disney (James still has the IP rights though). Ofc, they're going to want the highest grossing movie of all time under their belt. With Star Wars, Marvel, and Avatar, they've taken over the highest grossing franchises.
At this point, I think visitors find Disney's Pandora land more interesting than Avatar the movie. It's stage-setting, not a story people really care about--and if the Avatar sequels ever actually get made, it'll probably be the Disney themed land driving interest in the movies rather than the other way around.
@@jmz8210 I'm waiting for the full experience Titanic ride where you travel and dine in splendor, only to be killed horribly when it all goes off the tracks and turns into "Dive to Atlantis"... Water bailing optional.
@@MattMcIrvin it's certainly an interesting situation. The park is acting as a sort of IV bag to the Avatar franchise, keeping it in the public eye. When I was there, I kept hearing people say "I need to see the movie" or "I can't wait for the next ones." Once, Avatar 2 comes it will have a big Disney audience, which will gain interest into the land again. It's a symbiotic relationship going on. Disney scratching Cameron's back while he does the same.
Little did Universal know 8 years later they’d be milking the HP franchise to death jk jk it’s an awesome area along with Diagon Alley I cant wait for the new ride
Harry Potter is one of the best lands I’ve ever been in Disney can’t even compare to that they used to be able to compare but then they slowly destroy these beautiful places in California adventure but I have to say I do enjoy their national Park field area but I think Disney could rise to the occasion of Harry Potter land anytime they choose to they just have to be original

I chatted with the fountain we talked about my butterbeer and what I did got a living it was fun
Temple of Poseidon looks amazing from the outside. It's too bad the show itself sucks hard. Needs a complete renovation

Do luna park sydney next
Agree!
Would you be willing to wait a fortnight or two? 🤔 - Dom.
The theming of rides and lands in Disney is far superior to Universal. To me, IOA feels like a glorified 6 flags. Building a rollercoaster and giving it a name is not a themed ride.
Loved this
I love the lost continent but a Legend of Zelda world would be amazing
Disney ended up using the good section/evil section idea for Galaxy's Edge.
No that’s been used for pandora
Not sure if I'm in the majority or not, but I favor the original Poseidon's Fury before the show was retooled. The current one is ok, but the first was great!
Pandora is the greatest of both parks. So it all worked out in the end.
while this may or may not have been designed by the people behind beastly kingdom, I only see the relevance between the dragon and unicorn existing, they were vastly different experiences than were premised
the way you would hear the unicorn sounds terrifying
I come from a Disney family that only goes to universal to get volcano nachos from the Margaritaville at universal. Didn't know something was present at the Harry Potter location before it was there
Sad to see that oak tree restaurant is now a Harry Potter place. They’ve got rid of that and dueling dragons. Two of my favorite things in this park
OMG YES TO LEGEND OF ZELDAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!
See, Disney? This is what happens when you don't listen to the person in the group project with the actual *good* ideas.
Great video. I love all your videos. I was inspired to make a TH-cam channel a couple months ago from this account.
Honestly now the only thing Lost Continent has to offer is Mythos. Poseidon's Fury is outdated, personally I think Universal doesn't care about this land even temporarily closing it during covid 19.
Need to do a review of the wizard world of Harry Potter and universal studios
anyone else notice @ 5:16 where he says the park would open to 6 lands and proceeds to only name 5...
The land not mentioned is Port Of Entry, which acts as the entrance to the park but only contains stores and restaurants, no rides - Luke
Review Magic Kingdom and Islands of Adventure please!!!
Harry Potter killed Dueling Dragons
They should make a Zelda themed park
YES YES YES YES YES YES
Universal, Enough with Harry Potter. Bring other franchises to the park before it is just a park for potter nerds.
Especially those of the CN kind...
So to put it, Universal took all Disney rejected theme lands.
Love this, just keep makeing videos and your channel will blow up! :D *New subscriber!
i've seen someone's video talking about how the Wizarding World came to be. and they indicated that it was not very far along.
Disneyland is a best city.
dueling dragons is sadly gone now. All it need was some renovation and good advertising to be honest... sighs
I ADORE Harry Potter, though it's a pity that a park that I also would have liked to have seen got absorbed into it.
The AT-AT shoots water?!
It used too, but like so many Disney Parks effects they stopped working over the years and it was cheaper to never fix them! - Luke
if the lost continent has to go, which sadly is plausible since at the moment it's not really all that eventful, PLEASE let it be Hyrule.
Lots of these things no longer there replaced by Harry Potter
Suess Landing is absolute shit. I wish they’d shut it down. Love this park overall but I’ve always hated that one
It was never Bastley Kingdomme? I just... ugh fuck no this is wrong.
I think the lost continent might replace with a Kung fu panda land instead another expansion of Harry Potter
Wait. You're telling me J.K. Rowling invented fully themed mini-lands?
And she did it out of pure Ego. She is also the cause of flesh-toned Legos because she bent the company's arm, insisting if they wanted to continue making Harry Potter products after the first wave, she get realistic flesh tones.
Seriously, J.K. Rowling - Pure Ego.
Disney was always shooting for that, and sometimes succeeded--to my eyes, the Magic Kingdom version of Main Street, USA is incredibly immersive. But Rowling pushed Universal to take it several steps further than anyone had before.
Universal Studios was the RIGHT company to go with for Harry Potter. NOT DISNEY. NEVER DISNEY.
@@tackyman2011 I will admit, the whole sliding down the boat scene when the Titanic was face up looked fun to me 😂
@@MattMcIrvin it's certainly an interesting situation.
Eventually Universal will have to scrap the land and expand Hogwarts. Its a financial no brainer, Potter will last forever.
Better theming than Disney (even Disneysea).
