crazy, book-matched, spalted maple kitchen island bench refurbish

  • We took our old kitchen island bench that we have somewhat grown out of "aesthetically" and veneered some spalted maple we we picked up from some neighbors.
    When breaking down these logs, we knew we would get some spalting, but when we milled the lumber it was apparent it was absolutely filled. we utilized that to book-match pieces for the bench design.
    finished with a round-over and polyurethane.
    came out cool.

    Thank you! Also, why the burning when the wood is cut? Dull saw, or something about the wood?

      Probably a little of both. Maple and cherry are prone when cutting those thinner strips.
