This! That halftime show was one of the greatest rock performances of all time. Easily up there with Queen at Wembley Stadium for Live Aid. Tàlk about a Rock Star - it was pouring rain and he kept playing. Nobody will ever top it.
The Halftime show's producers were worried about whether or not the show could even go on, and asked Prince if there was anything they could do to help him out before he got onstage, and he just smiled and said "Can you make it rain more?"
(Almost) everybody that was amazing, the best, la creme... but any prince live show from the mid eighties till his passing in INFINETELY BETTER. Some examples: LA Forum, Montreux (both but specially 2009), Sign O'The Times, The Aladdin Las Vegas, O2 in London, Lovesexy Tour, Nude Tour, the Brit Awards 2006...
I used to be a regular dancer on American Bandstand in the 80's. Saw ALL of the big 80's artists on the show and NONE of them sizzled my soul like this man did. He was mesmerizing.
I can only imagine what it was like seeing him live. I was never a huge fan, but all the musicians I loved sure were. At the 1990 VMAs, two guys from Queensryche were asked who they were there to see. In unison, they said, "Prince". And that HOF show? Electrifying. RIP Prince.
I see similarities with Prince, Elvis, MJ.. and I'm sure others who are tremendous talents, but also have I securities and weaknesses that cause their early deaths. I don't know why?
Doves are delicate, sensitive, representing love in its purest form and innocence. He is a wounded soul looking for peace and bewildered by the hurt he feels instead.
@lisapriebe7729 Ummm... that's what I said. All Doves are Pigeons. My statement was literally "Doves are Pigeons." I'll troll right here because that was a fricken dumb ass comeback. Just say "I don't think all Pigeons are sky rats." You can think Doves are delicate All you like, that still doesn't change the facts that they are Pigeons.
The movie and music are autobiographical - When Doves Cry is about his parent's abusive relationship and how tumultuous his home life was growing up. By the way, Prince made a few movies; Purple Rain, Under the Cherry Moon and Graffiti Bridge. Check out Little Red Corvette. There is no such thing as a bad Prince song! He was a true genius and musical virtuoso - he played dozens of instruments.
Semi-autobiographical, the majority of the storyline he created wasn't real... the relationships are made up, his home life and family were different, Wendy and Lisa didn't write Purple Rain, there was no personal issues between him and Morris Day. But you're right, his parents did fight.
I don't agree. Prince made plenty of bad tracks on all the albums he made over time (just like most other music artists do/did). But the (many) good tracks he made were often really really good and unique. To me only the Purple Rain album has no real bad tracks in it. But ok, just like art, musical taste is hard to argue about. And no one can be really right or wrong about it.
1984. This song was so huge at my school, as was the entire Purple Rain album/movie. Hard to convey just how big this song was (Mornington Peninsula, Victoria, Australia)
We all went to the theater to see Purple Rain, after the show it was an immediate run to the record store to get the soundtrack! Also this song has no bass,Who does that? PRINCE DOES THAT!
Prince is my favorite artist of all time! You haven't even scratched the surface of his discography. He's our generation's Mozart and Beethoven. Pure genius! 💯💯
Purple Rain was HUGE in the 80s and the soundtrack was the soundtrack to my teenage years. We had a clothing store called "merry go round". It was the 80s version of hot topics. They had a clothing line called purple gear. It was replicas of princes movie and stage costumes. I wore the jacket he was wearing bye the lake and the white ruffle shirt he has on in this video to my junior prom. On my senior year they had a dress code for the prom!
Black Pegasus paying attention to the lyrics is so great especially with someone like Prince. This song has many meanings because Prince very much like an elite rapper had triple entendrues with his lyrics. Prince wasn't like every other pop star in the 80's, his lyrics were certainly meant to be evaluated, the man was very deep. Especially songs like New World, Sign O The Times, Colonized Mind, The War or The Future. These songs would freak people out because the man was such a lyrical genius and fortune teller like Pac. Pac was also a huge Prince fan.
Yes! The extended version of this song is the best version. We all need more Prince. You should go down the purple rabbit hole there’s so much to discover.
Minnesotan here. He is a legend here. I just went to the US Bank Stadium for the first time for the Vikings opening preseason game. They played many clips of Prince songs though out the game. A good friend of mine caught a purple tambourine he threw into the audience at hometown concert.
I always took the meaning of this song, is that, Doves are so beautiful, peaceful, calm, yet regal & confident, so for a dove to cry, it would take something absolutely terrible to be happening........
Been watching your reactions for a while now. I'll be 70 in a few months so I lean towards my era of music like this talented and missed musician . Your reactions are heartwarming to me. I feel privileged to have heard all this amazing music the first time back in the day. It's just an all time classic never becoming boaring. ps A white dove holding an olive branch 'always' has been a symbol of love and peace. Their songs: It's my Life (covered by No Doubt in 2003), Living in Another World, or Life''s What you Make it were all huge 80s hits even though they were considered more of an alternative group. I think Prince got swallowed up by fight against the corporations that were trying to control and manipulate artists back in his day and his image became more focused on the fight than on his music for awhile.By the time he was back using his name and performing as Prince,so much of his history was over-looked ,and younger people never got the chance to see all that talent he had.
Regarding the question of women never being satisfied: in my opinion, it has nothing to do with gender. Men and women are both satisfied/dissatisfied. The degree depends on what's going on in their lives at the time.
Movie Reaction Channel!! "PEGASUS REELZ IT IN"... I'm so here for it. Prince to me either gave off the persona of mysterious or he was a bit like that? All the people who were in his circle who have done interviews said that he was hilarious and very kind. Anywho... great reaction!
Prince grew up in a broken home and music became his escape from his harsh reality... The movie 'Purple Rain' was based on his early days in the Minneapolis music scene... his dad in the movie (played by Clarence Williams III) was based on his real father, who was a failed musician and a bitter, abusive man... Prince cast his friend Morris Day as the movie's antagonist and even wrote songs for him to perform (Prince was a huge fan of Morris Day and The Time) ... Originally, Prince's girlfriend Vanity was supposed to play the movie lead but they broke up during pre-production... So, another aspiring singer/ model/ actress Apollonia was cast as Prince's lead. Prince was a prodigy and music was the only language he could communicate w/, growing up in a broken home where his dad was bitter and his mom never gave him any attention... Unfortunately, it made him extremely single-minded in his pursuit for musical perfection... Nobody could persuade him when he had an idea for a song - if anybody made any suggestions to change his ideas, he would throw them out of the studio... After he became famous, his bodyguards were told that nobody was to approach Prince in public unless he said otherwise. His relationships w/ women came 2nd to his obsession w/ music and that was why he struggled to find a lasting relationship... Despite his short frame, Prince played sports as a teen and was good... He was popular in high school... He came obsessed w/ learning instruments in order to write and record songs on his own... He learned to play 27 instruments allegedly, before he recorded his first album. His first business partner shopped his demos to labels w/ no success in 1977 but he finally signed to Warner Bros. Records after the A&R there was told that this kid from Minneapolis wrote, played, recorded and produced the demos. His first album 'For you' was released in 1978. His 2nd album 'Prince' was released in 1979 and became a platinum hit in the 70's disco era... Prince put together a live band and started doing shows... Onstage, he was a charismatic force when singing and performing... but when he wasn't, he was shy, awkward and tongue-tied during TV appearances or interviews. With albums like 'Dirty mind' ... 'Controversy'... '1999'... Prince flaunted a very sexual image to go w/ his music... He was also a creative visual artist and knew early on that pushing buttons was the way to get noticed in the music business... His 1982 music video for 'Automatic' was banned by MTV because it portrayed Prince being tied to a bed and whipped by 2 female band members... However, Prince's image was mostly for show... In reality, Prince was very private and spent most of his time working on music when he wasn't touring. Prince's first MTV hit 'Little red Corvette' was a pop hit but had very sexually suggestive lyrics. 'Purple rain' (The movie and soundtrack) made Prince a superstar in 1984. One of his collaborators was female drummer Sheila E. and they became a couple for several years, even getting engaged at one point... But she said by the 90's, Prince was writing more explicit songs and she wasn't happy w/ that musical direction... Prince could not be persuaded to change his musical vision... However, they stayed friends after their breakup.
Lyrics are important. They evoke the emotions. Music can do some of that, but it is the lyrics that can bring tears to your eyes or a smile to your face or leave you feeling melancholy. They tell the story. Without the words there isn't one.
Personally was never a Prince fan. But I can not deny that he was a huge talent. My taste run more to country and 70's 80's rock. I still enjoy some of his songs. Thanks for the video and comments.
one species of dove is called mourning dove because its call is very haunting, sad sounding as if they are mourning or crying over a loss. I always figured that this song was reffering to that
My first concert. Me and my sister. The Cow Palace. Purple Rain concert. Shiela E. opened. Morris Day and the Time should be checked out too. Prince got many started on the road to stardom.
@@stacie4170 I got lucky on that one, it was nosebleed at The Jacksons! Prince stands out as my favorite and I saw everyone who came thru the south, lol.....The Stones, The Jacksons, Elton John, Madonna, and so on and so on. Loved them all but Purple Rain was just superior, imo. So cool that you saw it too and now we meet here all these years later to back each other up on how great that show was! Take care my purple sister!
When The Doves Cry is a complete classic. It’s about history repeating itself because his relationship with his girlfriend which he wanted to be all ‘lovey dovey’ was volatile just like his parents. You need to watch the movie then this makes more sense. Much missed RIP 🕊️
The album IS the soundtrack to the movie. The best-selling soundtrack of all time and always will be. Anyone who says they are Prince fan and has not seen the movie, they are not a Prince fan.
Thank you for being real and real awesome, i'm so happy you're not faking reactions like alot of reactors do. You just come out and say yeah i heard this before and i just wanna see the video and hear the song again. You Rock!!!!!!
Fun Fact Prince actually had 2 Pet Doves he kept in Paisley Park . Oh and you wanna bump , play Get Off by Prince or Erotic City . 1999 is so not a party song , it's actually about nuclear war !! LOL Love you BP !!!
Erotic city was a b side track on the 45 and I played the crap out of that song until my mom over heard a bit of the lyrics and she was not happy lol! But that song was 🔥
The film , premiered 40 years ago this summer . I was a 16 year old kid from Tampa, Florida USA who found himself in Prince's hometown of Minneapolis Minnesota on the opening night of this Film. Just a few miles from his studio compound , the main street was a all night party with a huge old movie theater in the heart of it . Got into late showing of "Purple Rain" after wasting half my day with 2 bad flicks. ( Cheech & Chong's the Corsican Brothers and Meatballs 3 ) ALL NIGHTER Party / Street Fair , 16yrs old , 1500 miles from home at the Movie event of the year .
I love this song. I love the Purple Rain soundtrack. I love the Purple Rain movie. I LOVE Prince 💜💜💜 He imo was a musical and creative genius. He is dearly missed 😢. It would be great to see you react to the movie BP 💜
2 things- I have my original 45 when this song came out. I was a kid, but my Mom let me buy it. I have 4 of his 45’s. If you’ve ever heard a dove cry, you won’t forget it. Strangest sound…
Yes, you are right the movie Purple Rain was a combination of a love story and a semi autobiography of his life. I was in my junior year in high school when the movie came out in the summer of 1984 with my girlfriends; we felt like we were going to a concert, the theater was packed. Thank you for the memories. Since you appreciate music can you check out some of Prince earlier pieces of music from 1978 through 1981. You will be able to experience his music and vocals at 19 and early 20’s just phenomenal and truly a musical genius. I was in middle school when I first heard his music in 1978. Thank you for what you do
I'd absolutely love to see you react to the movie! It was one of those movies from my childhood that sort of defined rye era for me! Like, The wall, and so many other incredible albums, I can almost hear a soundtrack to my life when I hear Prince! Just an amazing artist!
Yes you are right to listen to the lyrics and to interpret because that was on of the mystic about Prince, he always told a story with his music if you listen with intent. In the original video from the 80’ he screams at the end of the song, well it is known that when the doves screams (the bird) that it mimics the sound of birds crying. Hopefully you will check out the movie it’s really good and filled with that Minneapolis sound.
I love Prince💜. I had the biggest crush on him from 1981 on. When this movie came out I practically lived at the movie theater watching it over and over. His music was great and he was sooooo sexy. He was wearing make up and heels and he could steal everyone’s girl. I had the poster of him in the tub on my bedroom wall along with many others and magazine clippings etc. I had wall to wall Prince💜. My parents were thrilled 🙄🙄🙄🤣🤣 RIP💜💜💜
He grew up in Minnesota and his father actually kicked him out of the house in the cold, so to me this was his best line, How can you just leave me standing alone in a world that’s so cold, his best song too!
💜Prince!! 💜I have a Facebook friend who used to play with Prince. They "got" each other. I was shocked when I found out he was friends with Prince and had the photos to prove it. My friend is a singer and still does Prince's songs on stage in Minnesota with his band. He goes by the name "G Sharp". Cool guy. 💜 BP, men's brains and women's brains are very different. Both men and women need to find that "happy medium" which looks like this...☯😁

I bet that was incredible!
I saw it in Atlanta! Remember all the flowers dropping at the end? Did they throw out purple tambourines to the audience at your show? It was awesome!
@@auburnkim1989 no tambourines. I was too far away anyway 😂
@@ajiscool615 it was. It started with him in a tub that was raised high over the stage. We wondered if he’d be scantily clad 😂😂😂
I love Prince!!! YES!!!
F yeah man. Prince was the biggest aphrodisiac I had in my youth. God bless him many thank. That diamonds and pearls albums just plain worked =)
Prince’s greatest single work by far. He never came close to this again.
Fun Fact Prince actually had 2 Pet Doves he kept in Paisley Park . Oh and you wanna bump , play Get Off by Prince or Erotic City . 1999 is so not a party song , it's actually about nuclear war !! LOL Love you BP !!!
Youre right it is theres one version of the song with a girl saying " mommy why does everyone have a bomb"
Erotic city was a b side track on the 45 and I played the crap out of that song until my mom over heard a bit of the lyrics and she was not happy lol! But that song was 🔥
@@charityhubert8319the original song not cut up for radio had those lyrics in 1999.
The doves are still at Paisley Park and you can interact with them
I’ve bought Purple Rain twice on cassette (wore the first one out), once on CD, and then the LP a few months ago.
When doves cry and purple rain are my absolute favorites!!
I just sung this at Karaoke yesterday! Love Prince! from Tokyo!
This was the first tune I heard by Prince ❤
Always loved always missed.
Thank you for FINALLY getting to THIS song!
My favourite Prince song 🎵 💜
Prince & The Revolution….’Kiss’, official video. He uses his voice like an instrument! ❤️
Little red corvette. Amazing lyrics.
💜Prince 💜
Love Prince and saw him live in Dublin ( outside concert in the 80's ) and saw him in Belfast too. Greetings from sunny Spain.
Prince was a musical genius.
U do not believe what u have unlocked, so much music here, have fun!!
I love this song. I love the Purple Rain soundtrack. I love the Purple Rain movie. I LOVE Prince 💜💜💜 He imo was a musical and creative genius. He is dearly missed 😢. It would be great to see you react to the movie BP 💜
Love love your reactions especially Elvis's ❤😊
this was such a huge album. every song was unique and showed his prowess as a songwriter and musician
My favorite Prince song.
Thank you for what you do
I saw him for the Purple Rain tour and he was freaking awesome. I would die for you is a banger too. Great reaction and Peace out ✌️ ☮️ 🙏
I'd absolutely love to see you react to the movie!
1999 has always been my favorite although sometimes I cant decide. 😂 I'm all in for you reacting to these older videos! ❤❤❤
Man those days were some FUN days I swear. Friends and freedom of teenagers. I miss them all.
Miss PRINCE, he definitely had a very hard life. RIP 🙏
Prince also played all the instruments on When Doves Cry.
My most fave song from him
His best song by far! 👏
My parents were thrilled 🙄🙄🙄🤣🤣
RIP💜💜💜
He grew up in Minnesota and his father actually kicked him out of the house in the cold, so to me this was his best line, How can you just leave me standing alone in a world that’s so cold, his best song too!
Love this song so much - Purple Rain is one of my favorites too - along with the movie lol
King ❤ é King humm essa guitarra 🎸 maravilha prince
