The Santiam's are great fishing rivers. My father grew up in Salem and learned to fish on the North Santiam then married my Mother in Lebanon, so I grew up fishing the South and Middle Santiam's and high lakes of the Cascades. You have 50+ years of great fishing times coming, so I hope we can all maintain the waters clarity and protect our heritage. It's so wonderful to see and hear young folk like you find the enjoyment of being outdoors!
That's a great report. Unfortunately, some of the runs like the summer steelhead run are not at all what they used to be. Since I live local I will keep fishing this river and discovering what fish lurk beneath the rapids. Thanks for the encouraging comment.
You can fish both the north and south fork of the Santiam, but it's not worth it unless the salmon are running. To find a spot just start with the parks, fishermans bend, the state park, or others. I just drive the river and look for access but as usual, most property is private.
@@righteousriverfishinginoregon7 it's way too early for springers and it's early for the n fork but go to the south, it's not hot but fish are being caught daily.
@Lukethesteelheadmaster ah, okay. I'm reading the ODFW update now and see that. Thank you for the tips. I only know the north fork, but will need to explore the south soon.
1000% sure thats a white fish and as was said are good eating but boney. Also, if your hunting stealhead especially you want to avoid standing on the taller rocks, they spook easy in clear water like. Just tip, from a fellow Oregonian. Tight lines and good luck
Okay, interesting. Thanks for the tips. I thought by being high up, it would be less likely they would see me. I think the best way for me to actually get steelhead is to move to another river like the siletz.
My grandparents always said JOY!! Jesus then others then yourself!!! …. 😲BROTHER NO FISHING IN EUROPE WHAAAAAA MAN YOUR MISSING OUT. When opportunity arises New Zealand. Trout the size of chinook like the salmon river , nestucca river sized chinook. Remember anything PEACH OR SOFT PINK GETS THEM STEELHEAD. TRY THE BnR beads…

That fish was a peamouth, aka mountain whitefish. They thrive in healthy river ecosystems. They fight good and are such an awesome fish to catch.
Nice. It fought good, and I thought it was a salmon. It's always fun to have a fish on the line. 😄
That is a white fish..They are good eating.......
I think it's a pike minnow, and if so, no one eats then here. But I could be wrong. It's definitely a bottom feeding fish.
