I always thought it was strange how every culture was different but always the same. Its hard to explain but i guess start paying attention to people in public 1 out of 10 people will always do something the same exact way as the person your comparing. I started people watching in public because I find it interesting.

I’ve been an interpreter for 30 years and I’m fluent. It makes me laugh EVERY TIME I’m, out in public and this kind of thing happens to me. I like to further mess with them by pointing out that if they want to speak English they should go back to England. ASL is the only American language - hence the name.
I'll admit. I'm hearing impaired so I wear large hearing aids in my ears (Over the Ear models) and I often mess with people by pretending to not understand them. When I leave them, I always thank them perfectly.

I heard where after Karen behave badly she was sent to the funny farm. She would have gone to jail but the judge her husband. Apparently she was off her meds. Her husband hired a nurse to make sure she takes the meds from now on. Hope that hospital enough for you.
There are ones out there where a Karen grabs the wrong person - usually ex-military, or those with martial arts training, occasionally police/serious security - and ends up on the floor, arm locked up, then laced up (cuffed), and then locked up. There are even one or two where the Karen gets wildly belligerent and in one instance took an elbow to the head (knocked out) and another where a Karen got tazed.
There is an entitled parents story where a Karen tries to kick a disabled woman & breaks her foot when OP dodged. An ambulance had to be called, so that technically could count.

From my experience working in retail, whenever they say they're friends with the manager/owner, they aren't just lying, but the manager/owner actually talk about how batshit crazy they are.
This makes me want to dress similar to store employees and search out Karen's to be as sarcastic as possible to. "Oh no! Don't tell my manager! Whatever will I do?!"

As a ASL interpreting major I can confirm that the main reaction I see others do when communicating with the Deaf are shouting louder or asking if they can lip read,
im basically deaf in left ear and about 30% in my right ear - dont know how to sign as can hear ok in most situations, always makes me laugh when you tell people that you need to get my attention before talking to me or i wont hear you and to talk directly to me. it amazes me how many people cant do these simple things even after working with them for a decade as they chat away for 20 minutes then get pissy i didnt hear them or they turn around and start chatting to thier computer or something. That pisses me off so can imagine talking louder and slower to completely deaf person is enough to throw you off the edge! lol

I took ASL in high school. Part of our grade was predicated on our involvement in the deaf community. And let me tell you...if you get the chance...take it. I always had an incredible time playing games, learning new signs, and just interacting with the community.

I've had numerous run-ins with Karens, and my favorite was when I was in a mall and listening to music with headphones, and my earrings and headphones got tangled. I asked a random person for help, and she said that I needed to leave her alone, young man, or she would call security. I corrected her on my gender and she flipped her shit. I left pretty hastily.
My youngest use to be sensitive but she found out that sensitive people taste like chicken to karen. So after getting her arse handed to her a couple of times she found her voice and she's no one's victim anymore. Stop looking for sympathy and find your backbone.
I had the same before, but what may help is starting to sport (a “fighting” sport is the best) because you build up self-esteem and then you will see improvement

As someone with social anxiety as well, I fully understood why she started sobbing when the Karen yelled at her. I do the same exact thing. Thankfully it doesn't happen often cause I'm a 6'1 heavy set dude and look pretty intimidating when I have my bushy beard. Even though in reality I'm just a huge teddy bear and would only hurt someone if they touched me or my family.

Former Wally World employee. I worked overnight with a deaf man. Even he held his ears when our backdoor alarm went off. I stocked pet food with him. My signing knowledge is minimal, so he helped me out. Nicest guy!
For that last story, I could pretty heavily relate. I have really bad social anxiety and me being only 13, I hate when people yell at me and I immediately start crying, even when people barely raise their voice. It doesn't help that I have depression either cause when I try to talk to my mom about it, she starts to get mad, asking why I'm depressed when there "isn't anything to be depressed about." I often have bad days and having social anxiety makes it hard to talk to a therapist. If you see this I hope you have a good day and please talk to people about their issues. It can seriously help.

I'm almost wishing for a Karen encounter... but only when I'm off shift. On duty, I'm a picture of calm and professionalism. Usually. But I never get upset AT my patients (I'm a paramedic). True story, just because it's amusing, at least to me: A lady called for EMS (I work for a private ambulance company) to go to the ER. I was on another call until about 10 minutes after she called. Dispatch called my unit to go pick her up because 1) I was one of two ALS units in service, 2) ALS is required by our protocols to take ER calls because heaven forbid BLS miss something critical, and 3) the other ALS was still on a call. My unit was 45 minutes away from her location. It was suggested to her that if she needs to get there NOW, call 911. Nope. And man, did she chew out me and my partner for "taking so long". My response? "I'm sorry. I know it took a while." I explained the earlier points, then, "I understand you're not feeling well, and it did take us a while to get here, so I'm not taking your anger personally." That snapped her out of it, and she actually apologized. I wouldn't really call her a Karen. Just a lady in a bad situation.

I love it! 😂😂😂 I too know sign language (because my mom is deaf) and have used that on occasion to get out of helping “karen’s” and have gotten some really nasty insults just to me to talk AND sign back to the “Karen/Maren (male Karen)” and usually say, “wow, and here I was about to give away this $100 (shows real $100 bill or sometimes a $50 depends on whatever large bill I have on hand to donate) dollars to the next person who was kind to people with disabilities (I am disabled that’s a whole other story) because a little kindness goes a long way...” then turn and walk away. The look and utter Karen sputtering is priceless.

I worked retail/customer service for yrs. And take it from me, NO ONE with "crippling" social anxiety would be hired for retail or customer service. And while I was working I was known for eating Karens alive.
I really felt that last one. I also have crippling social anxiety and is why I always shop at like 4AM when the only other people around are employees. I'll pretty much only shop during the day if I'm with someone I can talk to so I'm focused on them and not the horrifying amount of people around me.
My mum used to teach A.S.L and sometimes she just randomly starts signing the things she’s saying (not big like spelling out every big word but just like if she says “sunrise” she make the sign for sunrise) it got to the point that me and my brother know the entire alphabet in sign language and can understand when mom tell us something in sign language. It might sound a bit weird but I love it about her. She’s an amazing mom and the fact that she knows sign language really helped with her job. I love her and am so proud of her.

oh god, i'm the same way as that girl in the last story. that kind of thing triggers, not just my social anxiety, but my PTSD, and i would've had a HORRIBLE panic attack. that's one of the many reasons i can't leave home alone.

For those that don't know, in the first story, OP is standing next to a digger to make sure that it doesn't hit anyone or anything. Those large construction machines have numerous blind spots and a driver can't see things nearby or at certain angles. OP was there to shout out when the digger operator is close to hitting something. If someone wasn't there the operator could drive onto unstable land, not knowing about it, hit someone walking past or damage a building or other property.
Also, no one should really park beside construction fences. Even if there were parameters installed to prevent accidents from happening, you'd really never know what's going to happen.
I'm surprised that as soon as a Karen takes her first step into a store/restaurant, she yells out "I want to see a manager! NOOOOOW !!!!!!". Even before she takes a shopping cart/seat. LOL

As a ASL interpreting major I can confirm that the main reaction I see others do when communicating with the Deaf are shouting louder or asking if they can lip read,
im basically deaf in left ear and about 30% in my right ear - dont know how to sign as can hear ok in most situations, always makes me laugh when you tell people that you need to get my attention before talking to me or i wont hear you and to talk directly to me.
it amazes me how many people cant do these simple things even after working with them for a decade as they chat away for 20 minutes then get pissy i didnt hear them or they turn around and start chatting to thier computer or something.
That pisses me off so can imagine talking louder and slower to completely deaf person is enough to throw you off the edge! lol

I took ASL in high school. Part of our grade was predicated on our involvement in the deaf community. And let me tell you...if you get the chance...take it. I always had an incredible time playing games, learning new signs, and just interacting with the community.

I've had numerous run-ins with Karens, and my favorite was when I was in a mall and listening to music with headphones, and my earrings and headphones got tangled. I asked a random person for help, and she said that I needed to leave her alone, young man, or she would call security. I corrected her on my gender and she flipped her shit. I left pretty hastily.
The video game one I can relate to I can’t handle when people yell at me too. I cry as well I’m very shy and sensitive person I feel for op. 😢😔
My youngest use to be sensitive but she found out that sensitive people taste like chicken to karen.

As someone with social anxiety as well, I fully understood why she started sobbing when the Karen yelled at her. I do the same exact thing. Thankfully it doesn't happen often cause I'm a 6'1 heavy set dude and look pretty intimidating when I have my bushy beard. Even though in reality I'm just a huge teddy bear and would only hurt someone if they touched me or my family.

For that last story, I could pretty heavily relate. I have really bad social anxiety and me being only 13, I hate when people yell at me and I immediately start crying, even when people barely raise their voice. It doesn't help that I have depression either cause when I try to talk to my mom about it, she starts to get mad, asking why I'm depressed when there "isn't anything to be depressed about." I often have bad days and having social anxiety makes it hard to talk to a therapist. If you see this I hope you have a good day and please talk to people about their issues. It can seriously help.

I'm almost wishing for a Karen encounter... but only when I'm off shift. On duty, I'm a picture of calm and professionalism. Usually. But I never get upset AT my patients (I'm a paramedic).
True story, just because it's amusing, at least to me:
A lady called for EMS (I work for a private ambulance company) to go to the ER. I was on another call until about 10 minutes after she called. Dispatch called my unit to go pick her up because 1) I was one of two ALS units in service, 2) ALS is required by our protocols to take ER calls because heaven forbid BLS miss something critical, and 3) the other ALS was still on a call.
My unit was 45 minutes away from her location. It was suggested to her that if she needs to get there NOW, call 911. Nope.
And man, did she chew out me and my partner for "taking so long".
My response? "I'm sorry. I know it took a while." I explained the earlier points, then, "I understand you're not feeling well, and it did take us a while to get here, so I'm not taking your anger personally." That snapped her out of it, and she actually apologized.
I wouldn't really call her a Karen. Just a lady in a bad situation.

I've noticed that too, I wonder if it leads to these interactions. I don't get bothered in public like these people do, and yes I have worked in retail.

My response to people like this in these stories is to just say. "OK" and keep going about my business because you can't talk sense to stupid people.

I love it! 😂😂😂 I too know sign language (because my mom is deaf) and have used that on occasion to get out of helping “karen’s” and have gotten some really nasty insults just to me to talk AND sign back to the “Karen/Maren (male Karen)” and usually say, “wow, and here I was about to give away this $100 (shows real $100 bill or sometimes a $50 depends on whatever large bill I have on hand to donate) dollars to the next person who was kind to people with disabilities (I am disabled that’s a whole other story) because a little kindness goes a long way...” then turn and walk away. The look and utter Karen sputtering is priceless.

I worked retail/customer service for yrs. And take it from me, NO ONE with "crippling" social anxiety would be hired for retail or customer service. And while I was working I was known for eating Karens alive.

I really felt that last one. I also have crippling social anxiety and is why I always shop at like 4AM when the only other people around are employees.
I'll pretty much only shop during the day if I'm with someone I can talk to so I'm focused on them and not the horrifying amount of people around me.

My mum used to teach A.S.L and sometimes she just randomly starts signing the things she’s saying (not big like spelling out every big word but just like if she says “sunrise” she make the sign for sunrise) it got to the point that me and my brother know the entire alphabet in sign language and can understand when mom tell us something in sign language. It might sound a bit weird but I love it about her. She’s an amazing mom and the fact that she knows sign language really helped with her job. I love her and am so proud of her.

oh god, i'm the same way as that girl in the last story. that kind of thing triggers, not just my social anxiety, but my PTSD, and i would've had a HORRIBLE panic attack. that's one of the many reasons i can't leave home alone.

For those that don't know, in the first story, OP is standing next to a digger to make sure that it doesn't hit anyone or anything. Those large construction machines have numerous blind spots and a driver can't see things nearby or at certain angles. OP was there to shout out when the digger operator is close to hitting something. If someone wasn't there the operator could drive onto unstable land, not knowing about it, hit someone walking past or damage a building or other property.
Also, no one should really park beside construction fences. Even if there were parameters installed to prevent accidents from happening, you'd really never know what's going to happen.
