Be still, my soul, The Lord is on thy side Bear patiently, the cross of grief or pain Leave to thy God, to order and provide In every change, He faithful will remain Be still, my soul, thy best thy heavenly friend Through thorny ways, leads to a joyful end Be still, my soul, thy God doth undertake To guide the future as He has the past Thy hope, thy confidence, let nothing shake All now mysterious shall be bright at last Be still, my soul, the waves and wind still know His voice who ruled them while He dwelt below In You I rest, in You I found my hope In You I trust, You never let me go I place my life within Your hands alone Be still, my soul Be still, my soul, the hour is hastening on When we shall be forever with the Lord When disappointment, grief and fear are gone Sorrow forgot, love's purest joys restored Be still, my soul, when change and tears are past All safe and blessed, we shall meet at last In You I rest, in You I found my hope In You I trust, You never let me go I place my life within Your hands alone Be still, my soul In You I rest, in You I found my hope In You I trust, You never let me go I place my life within Your hands alone Be still, my soul Be still, my soul Be still, my soul
I learned this song during my confirmation classes. That occurred in the mid 1960’s. I seldom hear this song. This performance was nothing short of perfection. I am deeply moved.
Thanks very much. Three of my grandparents were born in Finland, and this hymn was sung at my mother's funeral. You can imagine that it was very moving. (Doug)

i lost count count how many times I keep coming back to this performance. The group work so well together and it sounds effortless. I searched for other hymns by the same group but this appears to be the only one.
@@beldengi But why be no nasty about it? My chamber choir sang this arrangement and were super impressed a MN Senior managed to create this beautiful arrangement (as we're a Minnesota-based group). Why not celebrate young artists in a time when we need the arts so desperately? Yes, the original is also a fantastic classic, but there's no need to discredit this arrangement on a video that showcases it.
@@beldengi I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you don't really know much about music. There is a difference between a composer (original "author" of a piece of music) and an arranger who changes things such as harmony, tempo, etc. to change the overall impact. Just listen to a couple of different videos of Finlandia and you can find subtle differences, including completely different lyrics
My brother played me Finlandia (Sibelius) when I was about 12 and I was crying by the end of it. We sometimes sing this hymn at church, but not these amazing harmonies obviously. Quite a revelation.
My parents both loved this hymn. I could never sing this in church without getting emotional. Just as i did just now. Thank you. I shall play this many times, I'm sure
gosh darn-it that tall skinny redhead (the girl) takes my soul with her , soaring into the heavens every time she lifts off......NO ONE like her.....most delightful
Of all the interpretations of this piece that I have heard, this is by far the most beautiful and most inspiring I have ever heard. This has long been one of my favorite pieces of music to sing, and it was very gratifying to add my voice to your mix and enjoy how good you guys make me sound. :) Your interpretation is magical. Thank you for your music and for sharing your gifts with us here. I just discovered you last fall, and when I did I immediately ordered two of your CDs and gave them as christmas gifts to my lady. She was as appreciative of your talents as I am. I hope I get to hear a lot more of you folks before I start pushing up daisies.
Eric Liddell's favourite Hymn.........remember ....film....Chariots of Fire 🔥🦁........he died in Prisoner of war camp in 1945.....and gone on..... to be with the Lord ..... Yeshua Ha Mashiach 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Me too. But you also have to include hundreds of hours of personal practice, memorizing and ensemble training. They make it look and sound easy. it is horrendously difficult. It is not magic. It is HARD work. Sanjosemike (no longer in CA)
Beautiful and inspiring. Worth noting that the words were written by a German pietist lady in the 17th century. The music is part of Sibelius' Finlandia, a hymn challenging Russian oppression of Finland at the time. Matheson only did the arrangement!!
I’m there with that bass line. Matheson I think knows he was a channel, a ‘hollow reed’ transmitting what was given to him. I don’t believe great art is ever ‘made’ only the person is found that gives expression to it. May all who pursue callings rest in this. Oh, and practice like mad.
If I had a wish of what I wanted VOCES8 to perform it would be this list: 1. Moonlight Sonata - Beethoven (I don't think he will mind) 2. Top Gun opening theme - off vocal (no versed vocals, just the backing music to the vocals) for example listen to: th-cam.com/video/gbyoNrwA_Gk/w-d-xo.html 3. The Little Old Lady (From Pasadena) by Jan Berry with Don Altfeld and Roger Christian; recorded about 1964 by pop singers, Jan & Dean - recording quality not very good so musical interpretation will be challenged as to how to produce and execute to VOCES8 standard. [In my opinion, all recordings heard of this song are too slow thus making it a boring listening session - VOCES8 can bring some life and fun encore type song]
This should be played before the evening news. Would then put it into perspective. Absolutely beautiful.
And after TV-COVID news every day.
Wonderful l love this song dearly!!God bless you all always!!🙏🙏
After listening this, no need to watch the news. Perchance you already watched the news.... this will walk you back from the edge of the cliff.
The best arrangement of this hymn I’ve ever heard, sung by one of the best choirs I’ve ever heard. Period.
Be still, my soul, The Lord is on thy side
Bear patiently, the cross of grief or pain
Leave to thy God, to order and provide
In every change, He faithful will remain
Be still, my soul, thy best thy heavenly friend
Through thorny ways, leads to a joyful end
Be still, my soul, thy God doth undertake
To guide the future as He has the past
Thy hope, thy confidence, let nothing shake
All now mysterious shall be bright at last
Be still, my soul, the waves and wind still know
His voice who ruled them while He dwelt below
In You I rest, in You I found my hope
In You I trust, You never let me go
I place my life within Your hands alone
Be still, my soul
Be still, my soul, the hour is hastening on
When we shall be forever with the Lord
When disappointment, grief and fear are gone
Sorrow forgot, love's purest joys restored
Be still, my soul, when change and tears are past
All safe and blessed, we shall meet at last
In You I rest, in You I found my hope
In You I trust, You never let me go
I place my life within Your hands alone
Be still, my soul
In You I rest, in You I found my hope
In You I trust, You never let me go
I place my life within Your hands alone
Be still, my soul
Be still, my soul
Be still, my soul
Thank you 😊
I needed this right now. I can’t put it into words. Thank you for doing so for me. 🌸🕊❤️
I want this at my funeral beautiful words.
Thank you
Thank you!
The one person who disliked this video must have been having so bad a day that this performance was simply too perfect.
Anything Voces8 does is sublime ❤️🎶🎵💕
As a singer, I really appreciate how difficult this harmony is. Magnificent singing!!
I’m not really religious, but this one pierces the veil a bit. Good god it’s beautiful! Angelic!

We were singing it when my father passed away. And just now I was in tears remembering my mom, so I found this to comfort me.
Be still my soul the Lord is on thy side

Be still my soul thy best, thy heavenly friend

The group is Voces8 and there are MANY videos of their glorious singing on their own channel.
Be Still, My Soul, sung with such perfection provides a quiet respite to reset from the madness of the day. Thank you.
one of my favorite old hymns. done incredibly well.
This is the very best version of this beautiful hymn.
I just looked the score up and it turns out the guy who wrote this arrangement is a HIGH SCHOOL senior. Mad impressive.
@@acbulgin2
It says it is a setting of Sibelius' Finlandia.
It is Finlandia. Not some High school guy's attempt at fame.
The tune, yes. However this particular arrangement of Finlandia was done by a high schooler

Marvelous such healing music and so needed in these difficult times
With covid, my daughter’s school choir can’t even physically sing together but sing online. Nothing beats singing together like this.
Absolutely sublime; a piece of heaven and earth touching in these musical voices.
A sublimely beautiful arrangement, sung perfectly. Thank you.
Just amazing. It moves the heart to look heavenward
Soul calming indeed 🙏

💯 This is what HEAVEN sounds like...😇
One of my favourite hymns ✝️
Beautifully moving. The harmonies complement each other, making it full circle of a reflective and pensive piece. Thank you, Voces8.
If there is anything more beautiful, I have yet to hear it.
Appreciate that the camera was stationary. One voice, one video.
Magnifique, tout simplement
Thank you. These vids always seem to show up in my feed when I need them the most.
Straight from heaven.
So beautiful. Love this arrangement.
VOCES8 sings a beautiful text with an equally beautiful melody. Simply perfect, this ensemble.

So, beautiful. I so wish I had this arrangement on cd.
Perfection. Just wonderfully blended. Flawless. A gift. Thank you.

Stunning&amazing, perfect for these terrible times.

The music is by Sibelius.

No hymn like this one. And no one like Voces8 to sing it.

Amazing arrangement & performance. I wanted a little more bass tho!
Wow
