They were still performing forced sterilizations on women in my home town of Madison Heights, Virginia when I was a young child (I’m in my early 50’s now). This was done at the Central Virginia Training Center (formerly Virginia State Colony for Epileptic and Feeble Minded). Ironically, at that young age, I believed we were a free people. I thought that even though women were having this done to them just a few miles from my family home.

Not just eugenics. Academia as a whole was hijacked. The theory of evolution was just to write God out of history cuz at the time it was hard to justify messing with God's creation and still be considered ethical. They were trying to reanimated dead bodies with electricity like Frankenstein and trying to find the soul and swap consciousness between two subjects. They were doing some pretty weird stuff. It was all ethical if there was no God. But it was all unethical if there was even a chance there might be a creator.

@@TPQ1980 There is definitely a difference between natrual selection and believing that things like crime and homosexuality can be done away with, through controlled breeding. To believe you can eliminate poverty through forced-sterilization of the poor and just breed society into higher IQs or "greater moral character" is an incredibly dangerous set of premises. When IQ is already on shaky ground when it comes to understanding human intelligence.
The validity of eugenics aside, it can easily turm into a thinly veiled excuse to grant the state immense power to set out on witch-hunts for the poor, marginalised and any other undesirables. Which often tends to be logical conclusion of eugenics.

Churchill only "hated" nazis because the movement started as working class. If it had continued to have Erich Ludendorff as a leader Churchill would have favoured it. It was the same situation with Italian fascism for the same reasons

    • @Gordon_Freeman_PhD
      @Gordon_Freeman_PhD 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

Nazism most certainly did NOT start as working class.
Like all movements on the far right, it was started by either the nation's upper bourgeoisie and aristocracy, or it started as a petty bourgeois movement that was then funded and backed by the upper bourgeoisie and aristocracy.
The working class, at least in any significant capacity, is the last class to join such movements, and only after a thorough capital-backed propaganda campaign directed at them.
That's the timeline of both Italian fascism and German fascism.

After that Germany chopped up like a turkey and the economy decimated, Weimar Republic, rampant prostitution, drunkenness, hyperinflation etc you name it is what led to the rise of Nazism. If not for that you would have never known the name Hitler. An even then Hitler was having bloodless diplomatic victories which did get the big boys very concerned so much so that Britain inexplicably gave Poland that it knew it could not defend or save a war guarantee and because of that Poland refused to negotiate with Hitler even though Hitler surprisingly made some very fair and reasonable demands but because of the war guarantee Poland stubbornly refused to even talk to him thinking Britain will come to save them an that's when Hitler had enough an invaded Poland which caused Britain to declare war on Germany that it knew it could not win on its own which is why when Britain was getting their asses handed to them they had to come back sobbing and crying to the U.S (that it still owed war debt to After WW1) to save them again. I'm agnostic on Pro-Life/Pro-Choice, but I love throwing that bit of history into a conversation when that conversation arises. I was in a management meeting at my company. I was a few minutes before ti started and the conversation started about a recent ruling. I just sat and listened and I then brought up the early history of Sanger and her position with eugenics...I was called a liar. I said it was easy to prove...just look it up. Marxism, Marx and many of his fellow Afroasiatics can be reasonably attributed with hundreds of millions of deaths in the 20th and 21st Centuries. The advances brought to the world by Europeans can be reasonable attributed with saving hundreds of millions of lives that would otherwise have been lost to malnutrition and treatable disease. Don't forget to say thank you to Europeans for saving so many human lives as afterall, you're not a "racist" who only cares about the lives of your people-group, right.

This comment really stuck with me because on reflection there are quite a few similarities in the rhetorics and practices of the historic institutionalisation of antisemitism and the imperial institutionalisation of racism à la colonialism and imperialism. For example, the ways in which Christian rhetoric was used to dehumanise the Jews and indigenous folk. Or the constant questioning of the effect of the presence of Jewish communities, and now immigrant communities, on the wellbeing/sanctity of the white community.

      G. K. Chesterton warned us against this. Tesla was famous for many things, even things improperly ascribed to him. But most people were not aware of his endorsement of eugenics. He believed that by the year 2100 eugenics would be “universally established” as a system of weeding out undesirable people from the population.
Tesla was hardly alone in believing this. Support for eugenics was one of the few things that people across political lines in the early 20th Century would agree on, from socialists like H.G. Wells to the Supreme Court of the United States to conservative Winston Churchill to libertarian science fiction writer Robert Heinlein. Several American states and European nations passed laws that sterilized those considered to have "undesirable" genes. Of course, it was Nazi Germany that expressed the logical end of the Eugenics movement - the INSANE desire for a pure race that ended in slaughter and death.
Has anyone considered that we will soon have the technology to genetically modify life in the Womb before physical birth without killing?

Thomas Robert Malthus died in 1834, long before 1907. Knowing about his disdain for poor people and his plans to have poor people living in unhygienic conditions to cause illness and even worse living conditions and poverty on them, makes it easy to realize that eugenics, also called Malthusianism, stems from insane minds, or perhaps one should call it 'feebleminded people' (another term for 'the undesireables').
That "Churchill was using the sort of language that would later be used by the Nazis to describe those who failed to live up to the standards of the 'master race'" is no surprise. And what about Plato...
Calling for 'cleansing of the gene pool' through execution, regarding the human race as a stock or a herd, shows clear insanity (Paul Popenoe).

I was hoping to see a video after reading this seemly "sensitive" part of history in different languages, except English. Sweden was doing her part too in these eugenics "experiences", like sterilisation. You see, among all the Nordic countries, Sweden was where eugenics met with its greatest success. Up to 63,000 people, mostly women, were sterilised under a "racial purity" programme approved by the state until 1976. So while Sweden was not the only country to practise eugenics before the second world war, it was the first to set up a state institute for racial biology. The institute was founded in 1921 to identify "sexually precocious or mixed-race types", and legislation was enacted in 1934. Although sterilisation operations waned in the 1960s, the law was not repealed until 1976.

The same “trick” used to trick Russia into the war. Churchill is therefore rather the driving force of the fall of the British Empire, without him wanting it of course. I had no idea how much of the eugenic idea had been put into place in the US. But I do know how much the general thinking of the time had to do with eugenics and the Nazi ideology. European and American scientists were very interested in finding differences in the brains (and intelligence) of different human "species". Trying to prove how much more advanced in terms of evolution, certain peoples were. Thus justifying colonization and subjugation of "lesser" human groups. This continued long after the end of world War two .

I agree. But I believe Darwin's original theory of evolution had to do with adaptability. He left the door open in terms of interpreting intelligence and power. The true test of intelligence is whether or not it helps groups adapt and survive. Although most of human history has been about one group dominating another Darwin pointed out that cooperation between groups was an essential element in the survival of humans as a species.

One thing that I've never been able to understand regarding the movement from the idea of artificial selection to its application to genetics is this whole idea of "breeding desirable characteristics", as if none of the scientists promoting this view ever had the sense to ask "Desirable to who?". If you look at even the most successful artificial selection campaigns, I don't think any scientist would claim those efforts made the animal "better". Is a bloodhound really better than a wolf? I mean...they are more docile and their sense of smell is better, but they are completely incapable of meeting the basic needs of survival without human assistance. We selected traits that were desirable to rabbit hunters, not ones that were desirable to the dogs. It stands to reason then that if a long running eugenics campaign ever actually got off the ground and was able to sustain itself for the several generations that would be required to have an effect, the same thing would come out of it, a population bred to suit the needs of the people who made the eugenics laws in the first place, probably not better, but likely more docile, better at being good worker bees, and more amenable to the aims of the people in power with less capability to control their own lives. It's effectively an attempt to domesticate humans, and I understand why that would be attractive to evil billionaires and autocrats, but what I don't understand is why that idea would be attractive to the middle class academics who promoted them in the first place.

Not only that but the United States was the leader in eugenics. And Hitler followed their studies and findings religiously. So basically America was pushing Eugenics (which was considered legit science back then). Hitler believed what they were saying, therefore believing that certain races were superior than others. So then essentially the United States played a pretty significant part in forming Hitlers ideology. Which he then used to justify his future actions. Then America talks ad nauseam about how horrible of a person Hitler was. While never taking responsibility for their own eugenics program or for their part in radicalizing Hitler. They never took responsibility for what happened with Ted Kaczynski ether. Or a lot of other really terrible things that they have done. The 0.1% controls our history, the flow of information and what we’re allowed to consume intellectually on a massive scale globally. So because of this, there’s just so much important, relevant information that so many of us don’t know which makes it impossible to make informed decisions and opinions on past and current issues.

Christianity is based on the West as savior and the non-West as the meek that need to suffer and give up their food, land, and resources to the granted people, the West. Today, the Jews are the new Nazis.

Its easy to judge people in history.

The Bell curve simply depicts the distribution of IQ and the distribution, frequency or manifestation of other traits among populations.
