It is my opinion that some reasons why people in Genesis was because the weather conditions were optimal for extended life spans, and apparently food was fresher and didn't have the additives that have been part of our diet. After the flood, lifespans began to shorten tremendously, and I think that somehow climate conditions became different, some Christians believe that God had put some kind of protection against UV rays that are harmful and conducive to shorten lives.
Great answer. The Biblical account actually implies aging was >sloweroutlived< their sons and grandsons. Until moses, incest wasn't prohibited and wasn't a problem due to the great genetics Adam and Eve started with.
Sin has been like a domino effect, making us weaker and weaker like poison. We can all see the pattern in our own lives but it must be the case for all mankind too.
@@pomegranatepip2482 It doesn't? As an evolutionary biologist and ecologist, I do happen to know that human life expectancy is not the same as life span and the former has changed a lot more than the latter and for many different reasons throughout time. If you want some explanations I can go into that (eg food supply, hygiene...) but I get the impression you may have misunderstood my point because none of those explanations for the latest increase in life expectancy (which may actually take a dip as we begin to suffer the effects of "too much of a good thing" like obesity, metabolic syndromes, autoimmunity, pollution...) have much to do with sin.
One man saw Apostle John. John came to meet that man of God.If he is still living what would be his life on earth.Do u think he must be sorrow free or being in flesh he must be going thru sufferings mentioned in John 16:33.?
Just as every nation of power has failed as shown in recorded history from corruption and greed an immorality. So are genetics passed down with disease. Everything degrades from sin and dies. So if a nation or people could live with out sin it would last forever. Heaven is that place that sin will be eliminated and as the bible says,, Forever we will live in Heaven.
Over 900 years old? Very much doubt it. People back then probably perceived time differently but there are scientific theories that people thousand years ago indeed lived up to 200 years. Healthier lifestyle, no pollution, no processed food and drinks. Less people on planet with less wars and etc…
Perfect DNA in the beginning is why, and very few mutations for the first 1600 years, before the Genesis worldwide flood. There was probably perfect weather before the Genesis Flood, also, and certainly, less pollution. But having perfect, to near perfect DNA, was most likely the main reason of long life.
It doesn’t matter how long you live, just how many children you have. Noah was 950 and had only 3 children. Shorter lives would actually lead to a quicker growth in population.
When I think of people living for hundreds of years I tend to wonder how fit they were. Were they as fit as a 30 or 40 year old for 200 of their 500 years and how long did they live as an elderly person, wrinkled, with joint pain, short sighted and hard of hearing? Also it seemes to be assumed that because certain patriarchs are listed as living to an old age, then everyone in those days also had super long lives. For how long were they fertile? Sarah & Abraham were said to be too old for children at 90 or so. Is it possible there were some parents of 200 children? If most of the people of a tribe had the same parents, how do they avoid problems associeted with incest? How would all those people be fed in an era of farming by hand. As intriguing as the stories of people living for hundreds of years are, they seem to raise some serious logistical or practical questions, which few seem to even ask.
Abram and his wife Sarah had been married for ~60 years and still had no children. because Sarah was barren. That was what Abraham meant when referring to his wife, it was her inability to bare children
another interesting passage you may want to consider to answer your other question is found in Genesis 12:10-20): in Genesis 20 we read that King Abimelech attempted to take 90-year-old Sarah as his wife. ( because she was beautiful and perhaps even youthful as she aged)
you are right to ask that question @Payne2view . The bible doesn't say everyone lived that long. Just those in the line of Messiah. I did a vid on this a couple of years back and there are a couple of passages that show us that normal people did not live that long.
Also I believe it is a blessing from God that we are not allowed to live hundreds of years on this sinful earth. Our world is growing more and more sinful. The longer we’re exposed to sin the more prone we are to wander. ??
In the Complete Work of Josephus, Josephus says the length of a man's life was set at a maximum of the years Moses was on earth which was 120 years. It also says the flood affected the soil so the food did not have the same nutrition anymore. It also says the Jewish history books agree with all of the ancient history books.
The first sin caused humans to not live forever. God told Adam and Eve, if they should eat of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, they shall surely die. Eve ate first, and then Adam. That caused them to begin dying.
Even the years of age he gave was long in the beginning but after Noah every man only live untill 100 he said this and its happening now yes..god can perform the most anything he want to do🎉🎉🎉🎉
I think that it had to do with be fruitful and multiply. They needed more time to fill the earth with people. As there were more people on earth the number of years went down. Imagine where all these people would've been at. The world would've been overcrowded.
Because that is the way God planned it. Man lived long to verify the truth of God's dealings with mankind verbally by word of mouth being eye witnesses of events. Then they were recorded.
And our years now would be even much less, as in the centuries before the 20th century when 30s-40s were a person last days, but advances in medicine have extended life. Supposedly, our genetics continue to mutate with every generation with cancer and other issues. All downhill since the effects of the Great Flood and of course the Fall in Eden. Super interesting! And, God wanting the world’s population to be populated as well, could be added to God’s Perfect Purposes
Easy question. Because they obeyed God's command in Genesis 1:29. Eat only fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds. If you do the same you will be amazed at the positive results. See also Daniel chapter 1
If death is the result of the introducti on of sin and sin was introduced when Eve and Adam ate from the tree of knowledge, doesn't that mean anyone born after that sin would be subject to the decree of death? Wouldn't that mean that Noah should never have lived to be 950 years old since his existence happened after the fall? In fact, none of those people should have should have lived past 80 because the fall from grace is one of the first events in the bible. I am just making a logical deduction from Pastor John's words.
Abraham thought it was laughable that a man could be a father at 100. So 100 was thought to be an old man, incapable of reproduction. Strange, as his own father was around that age when he had Abraham. He then lives another 75 years. Look at Inspiring Philosophy's video on the subject. Piper is a bit too basic in his reading here. The #s simply don't make sense if literal.

The direct descendants of Adam and Eve lived long lives compared to the other people due to the residule effect of the tree of life that had been eaten from before the fall. The other people, like Cains wife thought of the Adamites as being immortals. It took until around 1500 BC for the effects to have finally faded.

That verse is talking about the Second Death, which is the judgment for all unrepentant sinners. The Lake of Fire is the Second Death. The Wages of Sin is the Second Death. Repenting of those sins and following Jesus Christ gives us Eternal Life.
I think we should count ourselves blessed to live on this sin filled world such a short time compared to the early people of the Bible. That means we only have to suffer a short time before we go to See Jesus, not having to rely on faith anymore and spend eternity with Him who created us.
With these incredible ages, and no explanation for why life spans were shortened, it’s almost like the author is trying to tell us that this history is figurative. Especially because some of Noah’s direct ancestors apparently lived to an age that would make them alive through and after the flood, even though they didn’t get on the ark. Impossibruh.
Why did you say terah was 148 years old when he died. This is possibly due to Steven in acts mentioning the story of when Abram leaves haran. But genesis says specifically that terah died at 205. Why do you choose Steven’s account over the seemingly explicit genesis 11 verse?
It's possible that humans could live much longer at some point in our history, but in case of the Bible, at least for most of the Old Covenant, a Patriarch doesn't represent an individual human being, but rather a single dynasty, while a year stands for a single lifetime of a leader within a dynasty, even if the crucial events between instances when the Bible is counting time, does always apply to specific individuals, and shouldn't be treated symbolically.
Surely the flood changed the original creation to such an extent that a more hostile environment (radiation, for example) reduced lifespans significantly. Whitcomb and Morris suggest this in “The Genesis Flood”. As for the curse - no change since the fall. Except with Christ of course. Human flesh in heaven.
Less viruses, less deaseas, less enemies, good food, perhaps faster hour in intraday, or miss leading Jew calenders (before sabbath was created by Moses)
I’ve also heard it presented (by a very Biblical-minded teacher) that genetics plays a roll which wouldn’t go against anything said here. But much like we once had giants, dominate genes (though not always desired) perhaps what leans is into our current lifespans among other things such as height. Noah’s boys all went separate ways with their own genes. Ishmael and Isaac went their own ways with their genes. Jacob and Esau has their own sets. I’m not saying this is necessarily the case, but it may perhaps answer how we’ve ended up where we have. Much like many people believe that blond or red hair is more desirable or green or blue eyes are more desirable, but when paired with brown or black (dominate gene characteristics) the darker (more dominate) will usually prevail.
Here is the answer, based on the Bible and we need to know some hebrew too. When the Lord told Adam not to eat the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, because the DAY he ate from it Adam would die. And remember, for our Lord, one day is like 1000 years, and 1000 years one day. In hebrew, the letters also have a numeric value. For the number 1, the first letter of hebrew alphabet is א, and his value is 1. But, if you "spell" א in hebrew, you have "אלף" . It's a word, and his meaning is literally one thousand (1000). And if you apply this to the years of Adam, he wasn't live one day (1000 years) Good bless you brothers, study hebrew if you have the time, it's wonderful! To Yeshua HaMashiaj be all the glory and the honor for ever amén!
Why should they be? Christians have the same damaged DNA as anyone else that's alive today. In the beginning, Adam and Eve had perfect DNA, so they had no mutations, so no diseases. Their offspring would have had nearly perfect DNA, and lived a very long time, also. The oldest person in the Bible is Methusaleh, whom lived to 963 yrs old. Adam lived to 930 yrs old. After the Genesis Flood, people started living not so long, as some lived about 300 years old, and that number began to drop. People were allowed to marry relatives for the first 1,000 years, so the DNA slowly gained more mutations, and people began to live shorter lives. Laws were made about 3,000 b.c., during the time of Moses, to not be married to close relatives.
It's been shown that it only just a bad translation. I don't recall the very specific one but it confused years and months. Some scholars can show exactly where it happened long in the past. As for yourself, just devide those years by twelve and see how you get typical ages.

Great answer. The Biblical account actually implies aging was >sloweroutlived< their sons and grandsons. Until moses, incest wasn't prohibited and wasn't a problem due to the great genetics Adam and Eve started with.
There was no Adam and Eve. These are mythological people. Fictional. You can’t describe reality by using mythical people and pseudoscience.

Sin has been like a domino effect, making us weaker and weaker like poison. We can all see the pattern in our own lives but it must be the case for all mankind too.
How does that explain how human life expectancy is increasing?

Could it be in the way that time was recorded
True too but it still pointed out that man lived a lot longer than now at least even if the numbers are off from todays metrics
God please mean my family and I live long❤❤
Just as every nation of power has failed as shown in recorded history from corruption and greed an immorality. So are genetics passed down with disease. Everything degrades from sin and dies. So if a nation or people could live with out sin it would last forever. Heaven is that place that sin will be eliminated and as the bible says,, Forever we will live in Heaven.
Stands to reason that the passage of time would have been different as well.
Over 900 years old? Very much doubt it. People back then probably perceived time differently but there are scientific theories that people thousand years ago indeed lived up to 200 years. Healthier lifestyle, no pollution, no processed food and drinks. Less people on planet with less wars and etc…
Nope u heard right people lived hundreds and hundreds of years long you cannot fathom because its simply not thinkable in this day and age
It was also God's original plan that we only eat plants. Genesis 1:29. I wonder if that has something to do with it 🤔.
Perfect DNA in the beginning is why, and very few mutations for the first 1600 years, before the Genesis worldwide flood. There was probably perfect weather before the Genesis Flood, also, and certainly, less pollution. But having perfect, to near perfect DNA, was most likely the main reason of long life.
because they where fruitarians.
Look at covid19 it spreads from bats to humans by eating them.
They were nearer perfection.

Once the world was populated, No need for man to live so long. This life isn't the life were interested in, it's our eternal life that matters.
Plus they lived longer possibly to populate the earth better
It doesn’t matter how long you live, just how many children you have. Noah was 950 and had only 3 children. Shorter lives would actually lead to a quicker growth in population.
@Monte Stu true but his sons had no children and they were over 100 by the time the ark was done. Definitely some mysteries in the Bible

Few ask because few think. People never lived that long. It’s fairy tales.
Time was different.
David was only 70 when he died? Wow, he was the most consequential kind in the history of Israel, if not the world.
Thank you
I would not like living 900 years! Can you imagine how your body would feel??
It’d be much stronger and therefore degrade much slower. The last 50-100 years might suck though.
I would be more concerned about my sanity.
they didn't live that long
Nobody ever did, so don’t stress. 😂
could you imagine living forever?
God withdrew us from his presence, we went from eternal to mortal.
The first sin caused humans to not live forever. God told Adam and Eve, if they should eat of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, they shall surely die. Eve ate first, and then Adam. That caused them to begin dying.
@@11aaf All good things come from GOD.
Even the years of age he gave was long in the beginning but after Noah every man only live untill 100 he said this and its happening now yes..god can perform the most anything he want to do🎉🎉🎉🎉
Adam was initially immortal but I think the dna or essence of that immortality wore off as more and more mortals were being born into sin.
Another crazy person.... All humans in the past had live no more than 40-50 years old... Read some books rather then lying bible...

It is a somewhat easy question, but your conclusion is wrong.
Please show any supposed error using Scripture.
See you in 900 years then!
They were closer to genetic perfection.
I agree with you here. I've also seen where UsefulCharts had noticed an allegorical numbering.
Genesis (11:26) teaches that Terah was 70 years old when he begat Abram.
This is a replication of the Sumerian Kings which were said to have lived 28k years. It was adjusted to coincide with the beliefs of the authors of the Bible. It was all created.
John Piper also memorized how long everybody lived in the Bible. Let that sink in.
That’s what you have to do when you are making money from lies. You have to memorise them or you get caught out.

I'm thinking the same thing.
2:01 Terah lived 205 years. Genesis 11:32
Amazing people would believe man lived for 900 plus years…

Why do Christians follow Paul? I don't actually know that much about it but wasn't he someone who never even meet Jesus? Can someone explain?
They didn't, they just didn't know what time was,in fact if you made it to your 20s you were lucky

Was Adam made as a teenager, adult or an old man?
And if you apply this to the years of Adam, he wasn't live one day (1000 years)
Good bless you brothers, study hebrew if you have the time, it's wonderful! To Yeshua HaMashiaj be all the glory and the honor for ever amén!
Why aren't Christians life spans longer
In Biblical times, there were no sports, beer, or cheeseburgers. So it only seemed like 900 years.
It's been shown that it only just a bad translation. I don't recall the very specific one but it confused years and months. Some scholars can show exactly where it happened long in the past. As for yourself, just devide those years by twelve and see how you get typical ages.
