Mama Sume: Portuguese Commandos, the best in the world

The motto of the Portuguese Commandos is "Luck protects the bold" (a motto originating in Latin, in the work Aeneid, by Virgil: Audaces Fortuna Juvat)
The Commandos is a special elite force of the Portuguese army created during the Colonial War in Africa, in 1962, due to the need for a rapid action counter-guerrilla brigade.
Their war cry was taken from a Bantu tribe, Mama Sume, which means: Here we are, ready to sacrifice!
The characteristic beret of the Commandos is red.
Perhaps one of the most famous Commandos in the history of the Portuguese army was also one of its founders, Marcelino da Mata, having participated in more than 2000 operations, and was one of the most decorated soldiers in the Portuguese army. Due to the fact that he was born in Guinea, he was seen as a traitor in that African country and as a hero in Portugal.
The Association of Commandos has its headquarters at Bateria da Lage, in Oeiras, located on the seafront next to Praia de Santo Amaro de Oeiras. This battery was part of the coastal defense lines, crossing fire with the Raposeira (or Trafaria) Battery, which has an identical structure. The existing cannons in both are from the Krupp brand, but the one in Trafaria requires conservation and restoration work.
