- Romain Grosjean's fireball crash in Bahrain 2020 sent shockwaves across the world, and because of the safety within Formula 1, Grosjean's life was saved and only sustained burns to his hands and ankles. In this video we look over his 2020 F1 helmet that played a part in saving him.

The JB17 on the helmet is especially poignant as the halo undoubtedly saved Romain’s life, it’s just such a shame the same safety technology didn’t exist in 2014 for Jules too
254g wouldn’t have been survivable even with halo. They should’ve been going slower and they shouldn’t have been racing at the same part of the circuit that another competitor spun off at. In the rain, with giant construction equipment on the track to clear the beached car.

Wow, the opportunities you guys are getting, such a reward for all the hard work you've put into TH-cam. To actually be close enough to touch Grosjeans helmet, it's mindblowing.
This honestly makes me tear up. I was a DTS fan and I started getting into F1 after his accident but had no clue. I loved Romain so much and when I watched the episode with his crash I was so scared and heart-wrenched. I seriously cannot imagine being there or seeing it live. I get chills everytime he talks about the crash and the impact it had on his life. Thank god for all the safety measures, the incredible marshalls and safety crew, and thank god for our Phoenix who keeps rising!
although the helmet itself is pretty burnt and charred up it pretty much held together with a few damage only being cosmetic for the sponsors and the team logo but other than that I can't believe a helmet like that withstood 27 seconds of a burning car

They wouldn’t have shown it even if he had. Camera but yeah it would be kinda cool
The tear off strips actually helped protect the face as almost all are melted.
I would love to take a peek inside the helmet and see how it actually held up
What are the tear offs on the side for?
Great question! During the race the visor can become dirty (flies, marbles from the tire, dirt) so rather than trying to wipe it off, the drivers can quickly peel off a tear off removing that whole layer of dirt.
If on the visor? Drivers tear them off to get rid of/clean anything that gets stuck on the visor when driving.
@@diegoleonardia5358 when they enter a pit stop, they usually say something like "Visor" over the radio and a pit member will pull the front layer off
@@ajorngjdonaydbr This isnt true. Not sure if I've ever seen a pit crew remove a tear off in F1. It is almost always the driver who does it on a straight / on pit entry or exit when they can take a hand off the steering wheel.

If i was Grosjean i would use this helmet to design my new helmet to remind me what i came out of alive. It would be sick to have a design that mimics the burned helmet
I know it's morbid, but things like this are fascinating. I wonder who has the massa spring incident helmet. That crash was horrible live can't imagine the damage caused to that helmet and if he never had that crash I'm inclined to believe massa would have been a multiple time champion
That helmet is at his home in brazil. There a youtube video of massa's showing it.
