He was a good driver from 2013 - 2017, but a lot of fans hated on him and made a meme out of him, it was only because of the crash he is relatively respected.

I always found him to be one of the most engaging and relatable drivers on the grid, which made his struggles to become a consistent driver even more frustrating.
As a retired firefighter I saw many terrible, terrible things that will never leave me. I believed this was something that no one could get away from because of the guardrail and the melting of the carbon composite chassis. Truly a miracle. So happy for him and his family to enjoy life.
I hear you friend when you say you've seen the things you have. It is only a true hero who can be in those situations and say what you say. Many thanks on behalf of the world for being one of the few human beings who help other human beings. Indeed! I know what you say when you say that Romain had the good fortune to continue to enjoy his life and his family.
The fact that he wishes he could talk about his crash with Niki since they both went through a similar experience made me emotional. Of course, other F1 drivers know what it's like to sit in that cockpit and experience a crash, but Grosjean went through such a different experience that I also wish he could talk to someone who could really understand the experience he had. Glad to see Grosjean is doing well, he deserves it!
I lost my wife two years ago to cancer I was left alone with my two year old boy, many people recommended me to visit a therapist but I have ignored it till now. After watching the video I am convinced that I certainly need a therapist. Thanks Nico for talking about mental health.
We love him here at Indy in the US…we call him ‘Phoenix’. I’m not sure he liked it at first but then it stuck and he embraced it. His car actually was lit on fire in one of our races and instead of running out he ran to a steward, took the fire extinguisher and started putting his own car out! The fire department guys had to physically separate him from his car. I’m sure the vid is on TH-cam. He’s fit in really well and we’re excited he’s moving his family here! Indy is pretty low key and the drivers often just have barbecues and hang out with beers and Romain just fit right in, relaxing in a $2 Walmart fabric chair and just hanging out and joking around a fire. (Which was roasting marshmallows and NOT Romain, as well it should be) Also, Nico’s right…Indy is ridiculously dangerous and the crashes can only be described as…spectacular and not in a good way. The crashes seem to defy the laws of physics at times. Romain is a Mad Lad, that’s for sure.
That was a funny race (where he grabbed the extinguisher to help out). Even the commentators were cracking jokes like "Romain, we have people for that..."
I actually credit Romain, as well as other factors, with softening my view on IndyCar. The fact that McLaren has a team on the Indy grid doesn't hurt either. But to your point: I am not surprised by that in all honesty. Romain strikes me as a very down to earth guy who you could run into at the supermarket and not realize until after you got home. Watching the race in Bahrain live was... hard. I don't think I took a breath until I saw him moving (and might have shed a few tears... Maybe). I'm so happy to see him doing well, both in his personal life and on the grid.
40:50 I appreciate and will always remember this quote: "As long as you have that wish that you want, that you are not done with what you love doing, then it's hard to stop." Thanks Romain, you're truly courageous and inspirational. Best of luck in IndyCar.
When I saw Romain crash I was frozen. I thought I just saw a man die live. I didn't know what to do so I just sat there and watched in shock. I'm extremely happy he's okay, He's a great driver and more importantly and amazing person and I don't know what I would've done if he actually died there.
I immediately walked through the house to my bedroom to cry. I didn't even want to watch... I knew he wasn't going to be okay and I didn't want to see it. What happened to Romain is a miracle and I'm so happy he's still with us.
I felt the same way when I saw Alonso crash at Australia a few years before too, his car smashed straight into a camera and rolled over at a crazy speed. He crawled out and walked away. F1 drivers are constructed with stronger materials than average humans, I swear
When he said "I thought of my kids, and I thought I can't leave them without dad" that hit home. This whole crash was surreal, so glad he is OK and kids get to have him around growing up.
Hard now to imagine just how misunderstood Grosjean had been prior to his nearly fatal accident. He is such an engaging figure and such a motivation for his positive attitude. However, so much of the best of Grosjean was brought out by Nico. Nico, I love your broadcasts, but this one was hands down the best by far, “thus far”. And the best was at the end, when speaking French together, it was so engaging to see you both speak just as friends and race car professionals-so candid it was GREAT. Keep up the great work Nico-you are proving every day that your retirement from f1 has produced an even better and more complete person…
Yeah, and it seemed that Nico's abilities in French are so great that he didn't have any problems there and Grosjean obviously finds it easy to communicate with his mother tongue, so using French there probably helped, too.
I never understood why some people were bashing him, his 'crash' reputation was clearly not justified and just based on one or two big crashes he had (including a start crash). He was my favourite driver in F1, so underrated
Impressed all the way around. Nico’s interview was well-prepared and he asked hard questions, but it sounds like a natural normal conversation! That is a gift. Romain is so positive and honest. The way someone that's still healing such terrible injuries from a life threatening situation can speak so positively and confidently about it all and has such a genuine story is so inanely admirable. But also huge respect to Nico for interviewing him so extensively but also respectfully and with a genuine interest in to the life of a former colleague and seemingly friend
I always get shivers from hearing grosjean talking about the crash. This podcast was the best one. The interactions are really smooth and clear, really nice to listen to, and the super honest answers from romain really warms my heart. Such a great driver a lot of people under-rated

To be honest, first time I saw Romain's accident I remembered Ronnie Peterson's accident from Monza in 1978, that first angle when we see cars coming towards camera and Romain going off track and car exploding. It was horrible accident and I am so happy he is OK now and he still is racing, even if it's not F1 anymore. Hope he will have a lot more success in IndyCar next year and maybe even became champion one day, he really deserves it. Great interview as always Nico, thank you for sharing this with us
He’s in one of the best Indy teams this season. He will certainly pick up some wins if he was able to bag podiums and poles in a midfield team last season

Every time I see scenes of the accident, I get goosebumps... so glad he survived; he's such a pleasant, sweet personality. So courageous of him to speak openly about psychological struggles and being treated by a psychologist, a good role model for many men, and many athletes in general.

Wow, Nico. I think, by far, this is the best interview and/or video you've ever made. Just because of one big thing: you both show your real selves. You tried (and tried hard) not to let the world know anything about yourself, but you couldn't hide your emotions. You really "went in" a world you know is not perfect. In a world where family matters. I just felt good to find that side in you. Romain opened up his heart. I suppose this has helped me, you and many others to rethink our lives. Well done! My dad was burned to death by his super sedan when it arupted in flames while he was under it welding. I grew up with no dad and I am so glad they have you still. I cry every time it comes up and miss him so much. The only part of him that was not burnt was his crutch because he was wearing his racing underpants. Hearing your thought while on fire gives me some invite into his thoughts. Thank you.
It was common knowledge that Romain was one of the nicest guys in the F1 paddock, but, hearing him after that crash has been incredible. I remember someone compared Romain to a very talented football player, who was injured all the time and we only saw glimpses of what he could do. The fight he showed on track is part of the reason he is still among us. Wish him all the best across the pond and at home!

Here in Brazil, this race is about 10 A.M, so when the accident happend, I felt like my life stoped for 15 minutes, until a saw Grosjean jumping out of the car. My heart start to working again. Man, so a cryied a lot remembering Senna and felt blessed because Romain was ok. I'll never forget that day. God Bless you Grosjean. Thanks for this beautiful interview Nico.
Thanks Nico for inviting the Phoenix (that’s what we call him here in the US). And he is a true legend. Actually did you know that the interest in the Indy Car is all time high because of the Phoenix? Even Zack Brown also admitted that and that’s why they also have an Indy Car team now. I just love Nico......it is amazing how social media has allowed us to see people who are athletes be so real and actually feel them.....the unique looks on Nico's face as he described his crash was one only a F1 driver or racing driver could understand.....how your seat is built around you to keep you in and when it is burning how hard it is to be trapped.
Good thing about F1 is that fans and drivers are all a big family, and social media boosted this thing. When Romain crashed and caught fire we were all scared, standing in front of the TV waiting for the miracle to happen, and when it did, we were all relief. I still remember clearly that day, i felt happy and proud to be a F1 addict. Thank you so much nico for this great interview

I cannot believe that F1 drivers think seeing a sports physiologist is for “the weak”! One would think every team would have a sports psychologist, no wonders some of the drivers are so unstable. No one can be competitive in a HASS F1 I reckon Romain’s greatest achievement is acknowledging his weakness and seeking help. Great interview! Interesting how much more animated you both were when you were speaking In French, Bon.
It seems to me that the social stigma of having meetings with a psychologist pretty huge in many parts of the world. However, if you have a "personal trainer" that's more geared towards the psychology, that's fine. I think that's the solution top teams should be using until the social stigma issue slowly wears down.
@@MikkoRantalainen elite sportspeople around the world use sports psychologists, I always assumed F1 teams and/or drivers would use this valuable performance enhancing technique.
An amazing interview and I love how honest Romain was about his crash. My heart was in my mouth when it happened and I thought he was a gone, it was such a relief when we all saw him get out the car. So great to see him racing again and so happy.

Nico is always like: "You are so quick and I was like "WOW, how can that be?!"". Also Nico: F1 World Champion 2016, beating Lewis Hamilton after beating Michael Schumacher in the Seasons before. Beating Michael and Lewis I'd say Nico is one of the faster drivers. Also: Nico seems to be really down to earth. Rich, but still he comes across like someone you'd stumble upon shopping for groceries.
Okay it wasn’t prime Michael, still Michael yea but I think that’s important to Keep in mind. But yes beating Lewis is legitimately a Herculean feat and it speaks volumes about nicos skill
Nico managed to out qualify Lewis 36 times to Lewis' 42 times. Given Lewis has the greatest qualifying record of all time it really shows the speed Nico was capable of to be almost level.
Nothing less than HUGE respect to him. I always underestimated him and I feel bad about that. Nico, you have a gift, I don't know how you do it, but you get always the best from your interviewees and you have SUCH GOOD questions. Beautiful piece Nico and thanks to Romain. As a Yank and HAAS fan Romain and Kevin were my guys even knowing what reality meant on track. I don't think any racing fan will ever forget that crash, more importantly I can't forget Romain's interviews and his response to it and his attitude. I find it inspirational to the point of tearing up especially when you think of his family and children. I thought to myself, "well, he had some podiums, some good times and did more with some poor cars than they were capable" and I thought that would be it. But wait! There's more? to have him come to America and get in that Indy car just blows me away, blows us all away and I think that's why he's become a fan favorite. I am so excited for him to be in a top flite car in 22 with a premier team, just amazing. But I am nervous about the 500, I'm fine if he isn't in it. Romain still has the fire though and my favorite moment aside from the podium's were knocking Jimmy's ass out of the way at Laguna Seca was AWESOME! Great piece Nico, thank you! We can't get enough Romain in America! He belongs to us now and we appreciate him a lot.
What he describes about people experiencing their death is actually somewhat common. You dont in that moment get upset about it or rage against the darkness, you suddenly realise "Oh, this is how it happens, i always wondered how it would happen" and relaxation happens to you. Ive heard 4 people say the same thing.

When I saw the crash live, i felt a weird sensation and chills throughout my body and my mind couldn't process that how can a modern f1 car could become a fireball... I literally had tears in my eyes and I was watching from my phone so my mom came near and asked me what happened and I couldn't spoke a single world... Excellent in depth interview Nico, props to Romain for sharing what was an horrific accident but also the insight into dealing with everything across his career. I remember watching the race and seeing the crash as the camera showed the long shot as the front runners approached the next corner, and thinking wtf and immediate thought was ohhh no please be ok
Mark Webber's crash at the 2010 European Grand Prix in Valencia is extraordinary, afterwards when the Red Bull team exmanined the car, he had hit the brake pedal so hard in panick to stop the car, he had mustered super human strength and snapped it , what they call the Hypothalamus. Something that cannot be reapeted in a laboratory.
Absolutely superb interview here. You could tell Romain had massive respect for you and was able to talk normally. I think having someone you can relate to helps the interview so much. You should do more of. These types of interviews, I always have when people who don't know what they're talking about come and poke around. I enjoyed watching this one!
One of the few races that Im actually happy that I did not watch live. I learned about the crash 30 minutes after it had happened. I remember that I held my breath in shock when I saw what had happened even tough I knew he had survived the crash.

I was in a serious car crash at the start of November last year so this hit closer to him than it probably did for most. But I seriously admired how he coped with it all and it really put into perspective how mentally strong they are to just get into a car and carry on again
I remember I was watching the race with my father and my brother, who are always so loud during gps... but when we saw fire everything went silent. I was shocked for a few seconds, standing still, then I opened twitter hoping I would find immediate news... I'll never forget that day

I think he’s a such a nice individual! Happy for him that he’s back in front of the grid in Indycar. It’s such a reminder that the car you drive in F1 is dictating where you are on the grid … Lewis is good, but a talented driver like Romain would be challenging him on his best days in a car equally competitive! Go show Americans what you are capable of!! Indianapolis 500 is stil a possibility !
I always found it weird that Grosjean in the last quarter of 2013 suddenly went to another realm in performance. Never thought it was the psychologist simply telling Grosjean to go for it. I hope for the other Indycar drivers sake that he wasn't holding back in 2021.

Fascinating to hear him talk so openly about his near death experience - never give up ! Romain was very honest and humble recounting his F1 career - Really hoping he has success in Indy car - he deserves it !
Brilliant job Nico! As for my reaction; my first racing hero died when I was 4. I've seen so many leave us pursuing their passion. I was expecting him to be added to the list of tears. Clark, Villeneuve, Senna, Cevert, Pryce, Paletti, Bianchi, and too many others. It's both a testament to the modern car and a miracle that Romain is still with us.
When I first saw it I though it was going to be Lauda all over again. It took what seemed forever for him to emerge from the flames. He's so lucky it was first lap and the med car was following so people got there quickly. It's also amazing what the human body can do to make it self survive, he did amazingly to stay alert and get himself out so quickly.
Romain’s is such a great guy and we all lost a heartbeat when we saw his crash in the TV. Everytime I watch the footage it becomes clear how brave he was. Great interview Nico!

Thanks for interviewing Romain Grosjean. To me , he always seemed to get the rough end of the deal in Formula One and many drivers didn't seem to like him, but I did. Even more so since the accident and this subsequent interview. I also have his book. He's a normal family man and I bet he would be a good chap to meet and have a quick chat with. I was in tears when he was in that fireball crash and like everyone in the world, relieved when he emerged. Now, how about interviewing Kimi Räikkönen and getting a smile - now that would be a miracle.
Great stuff. Such a pleasure to have a look inside of the F1 through the eyes of a WDC. I love the take from former drivers about Alonso, Hamilton and Schumacher. Being a F1 driver puts you in the pinacle of motorsport so imagine how good those guys are that even their team mates are amazed by them.
Racing accidents are an integral part of F1 drivers life. Romain survives a life threatening racing accident & races again. This is what inspires everyone to look at life in a positive way & never give up. He is safe because of safety features like Halo. The conversation between the two of you was nice. Romain answered difficult questions frankly & honestly. the soft corners of his mind were opened. in 2022 F1 car will come in a new form. as an F1 fan I would love to see Nico Rosberg in the F1 seat again. About my first reaction: I just see a crash, didn't see the fire before the replay, and I don't know if it was the confidence in safety or a sort of deny, but I was like: I'm sure is ok, it was big but he will jump out. A bit like the reaction of Michael in the Netflix documentary when he saw the accident of Ayrton.
Romain has always struck me as one of the most genuine and likeable people on the grid. He is actually quite an inspirational role model. I think too the tag he was given was rather unfair, and I thought that at the time! Wonderful interview!

Many thanks on behalf of the world for being one of the few human beings who help other human beings. Indeed! I know what you say when you say that Romain had the good fortune to continue to enjoy his life and his family.
Some say that his sheer will to see his kids bent the guardrail out of the way.
The fact that he wishes he could talk about his crash with Niki since they both went through a similar experience made me emotional. Of course, other F1 drivers know what it's like to sit in that cockpit and experience a crash, but Grosjean went through such a different experience that I also wish he could talk to someone who could really understand the experience he had. Glad to see Grosjean is doing well, he deserves it!
I lost my wife two years ago to cancer I was left alone with my two year old boy, many people recommended me to visit a therapist but I have ignored it till now. After watching the video I am convinced that I certainly need a therapist. Thanks Nico for talking about mental health.

We love him here at Indy in the US…we call him ‘Phoenix’. I’m not sure he liked it at first but then it stuck and he embraced it. His car actually was lit on fire in one of our races and instead of running out he ran to a steward, took the fire extinguisher and started putting his own car out! The fire department guys had to physically separate him from his car. I’m sure the vid is on TH-cam.
He’s fit in really well and we’re excited he’s moving his family here! Indy is pretty low key and the drivers often just have barbecues and hang out with beers and Romain just fit right in, relaxing in a $2 Walmart fabric chair and just hanging out and joking around a fire. (Which was roasting marshmallows and NOT Romain, as well it should be)
Also, Nico’s right…Indy is ridiculously dangerous and the crashes can only be described as…spectacular and not in a good way. The crashes seem to defy the laws of physics at times. Romain is a Mad Lad, that’s for sure.
Not crazy, just love single seaters.
That was a funny race (where he grabbed the extinguisher to help out). Even the commentators were cracking jokes like "Romain, we have people for that..."
I actually credit Romain, as well as other factors, with softening my view on IndyCar. The fact that McLaren has a team on the Indy grid doesn't hurt either.
But to your point: I am not surprised by that in all honesty. Romain strikes me as a very down to earth guy who you could run into at the supermarket and not realize until after you got home.
Watching the race in Bahrain live was... hard. I don't think I took a breath until I saw him moving (and might have shed a few tears... Maybe). I'm so happy to see him doing well, both in his personal life and on the grid.
100%, he's been a fine addition to the sport. Wishing him and Indy many more successes. Can't wait for 2022.

When I saw Romain crash I was frozen. I thought I just saw a man die live. I didn't know what to do so I just sat there and watched in shock. I'm extremely happy he's okay, He's a great driver and more importantly and amazing person and I don't know what I would've done if he actually died there.
I immediately walked through the house to my bedroom to cry. I didn't even want to watch... I knew he wasn't going to be okay and I didn't want to see it.
What happened to Romain is a miracle and I'm so happy he's still with us.
I felt the excat same when Christian Eriksen collapsed on the football pitch. Time just froze
I felt a wave of relief seeing Romain coming out of the fire.
I felt the same way when I saw Alonso crash at Australia a few years before too, his car smashed straight into a camera and rolled over at a crazy speed. He crawled out and walked away.
F1 drivers are constructed with stronger materials than average humans, I swear

When he said "I thought of my kids, and I thought I can't leave them without dad" that hit home.
This whole crash was surreal, so glad he is OK and kids get to have him around growing up.
Hard now to imagine just how misunderstood Grosjean had been prior to his nearly fatal accident. He is such an engaging figure and such a motivation for his positive attitude. However, so much of the best of Grosjean was brought out by Nico. Nico, I love your broadcasts, but this one was hands down the best by far, “thus far”. And the best was at the end, when speaking French together, it was so engaging to see you both speak just as friends and race car professionals-so candid it was GREAT. Keep up the great work Nico-you are proving every day that your retirement from f1 has produced an even better and more complete person…
Yeah, and it seemed that Nico's abilities in French are so great that he didn't have any problems there and Grosjean obviously finds it easy to communicate with his mother tongue, so using French there probably helped, too.
Well there was a reason why he was part of Haas for so many years. They knew of his qualities besides just the 1-2 memorable scenes in DTS.
I never understood why some people were bashing him, his 'crash' reputation was clearly not justified and just based on one or two big crashes he had (including a start crash).

The way someone that's still healing such terrible injuries from a life threatening situation can speak so positively and confidently about it all and has such a genuine story is so inanely admirable. To be honest, first time I saw Romain's accident I remembered Ronnie Peterson's accident from Monza in 1978, that first angle when we see cars coming towards camera and Romain going off track and car exploding. It was horrible accident and I am so happy he is OK now and he still is racing, even if it's not F1 anymore. Hope he will have a lot more success in IndyCar next year and maybe even became champion one day, he really deserves it.

Always respected Romain. He always seemed to approach his racing in a very mature way in his later years. His words about the Bahrain crash just show that, great interview Nico.
Every time I see scenes of the accident, I get goosebumps... so glad he survived; he's such a pleasant, sweet personality. So courageous of him to speak openly about psychological struggles and being treated by a psychologist, a good role model for many men, and many athletes in general.
It's just amazing to see how all the F1 drivers were worried and cared about his safety.

Wow, Nico. I think, by far, this is the best interview and/or video you've ever made. Just because of one big thing: you both show your real selves. You tried (and tried hard) not to let the world know anything about yourself, but you couldn't hide your emotions. You really "went in" a world you know is not perfect. In a world where family matters. I just felt good to find that side in you. Romain opened up his heart. I suppose this has helped me, you and many others to rethink our lives. Well done! My dad was burned to death by his super sedan when it arupted in flames while he was under it welding. I grew up with no dad and I am so glad they have you still. I cry every time it comes up and miss him so much. The only part of him that was not burnt was his crutch because he was wearing his racing underpants. Hearing your thought while on fire gives me some invite into his thoughts. Thank you.

It was common knowledge that Romain was one of the nicest guys in the F1 paddock, but, hearing him after that crash has been incredible. I remember someone compared Romain to a very talented football player, who was injured all the time and we only saw glimpses of what he could do. The fight he showed on track is part of the reason he is still among us. Wish him all the best across the pond and at home!

Here in Brazil, this race is about 10 A.M, so when the accident happend, I felt like my life stoped for 15 minutes, until a saw Grosjean jumping out of the car. My heart start to working again. Man, so a cryied a lot remembering Senna and felt blessed because Romain was ok. I'll never forget that day. God Bless you Grosjean. Thanks for this beautiful interview Nico.

Actually did you know that the interest in the Indy Car is all time high because of the Phoenix? Even Zack Brown also admitted that and that’s why they also have an Indy Car team now. I just love Nico......it is amazing how social media has allowed us to see people who are athletes be so real and actually feel them.....the unique looks on Nico's face as he described his crash was one only a F1 driver or racing driver could understand.....how your seat is built around you to keep you in and when it is burning how hard it is to be trapped.
Good thing about F1 is that fans and drivers are all a big family, and social media boosted this thing. When Romain crashed and caught fire we were all scared, standing in front of the TV waiting for the miracle to happen, and when it did, we were all relief. I still remember clearly that day, i felt happy and proud to be a F1 addict. Thank you so much nico for this great interview

@@alesksander Even bigger stigma in many parts of Asia. Ignorance is a worldwide phenomenon.
It seems to me that the social stigma of having meetings with a psychologist pretty huge in many parts of the world. However, if you have a "personal trainer" that's more geared towards the psychology, that's fine. I think that's the solution top teams should be using until the social stigma issue slowly wears down.

Nico managed to out qualify Lewis 36 times to Lewis' 42 times. Given Lewis has the greatest qualifying record of all time it really shows the speed Nico was capable of to be almost level.

As a Yank and HAAS fan Romain and Kevin were my guys even knowing what reality meant on track.
I don't think any racing fan will ever forget that crash, more importantly I can't forget Romain's interviews and his response to it and his attitude. I find it inspirational to the point of tearing up especially when you think of his family and children. I thought to myself, "well, he had some podiums, some good times and did more with some poor cars than they were capable" and I thought that would be it. But wait! There's more? to have him come to America and get in that Indy car just blows me away, blows us all away and I think that's why he's become a fan favorite. I am so excited for him to be in a top flite car in 22 with a premier team, just amazing. But I am nervous about the 500, I'm fine if he isn't in it.
Romain still has the fire though and my favorite moment aside from the podium's were knocking Jimmy's ass out of the way at Laguna Seca was AWESOME!

What he describes about people experiencing their death is actually somewhat common. You dont in that moment get upset about it or rage against the darkness, you suddenly realise "Oh, this is how it happens, i always wondered how it would happen" and relaxation happens to you. Ive heard 4 people say the same thing.

When I saw the crash live, i felt a weird sensation and chills throughout my body and my mind couldn't process that how can a modern f1 car could become a fireball... I literally had tears in my eyes and I was watching from my phone so my mom came near and asked me what happened and I couldn't spoke a single world... I remember watching the race and seeing the crash as the camera showed the long shot as the front runners approached the next corner, and thinking wtf and immediate thought was ohhh no please be ok
Mark Webber's crash at the 2010 European Grand Prix in Valencia is extraordinary, afterwards when the Red Bull team exmanined the car, he had hit the brake pedal so hard in panick to stop the car, he had mustered super human strength and snapped it , what they call the Hypothalamus. Something that cannot be reapeted in a laboratory.

Absolutely superb interview here. You could tell Romain had massive respect for you and was able to talk normally. I think having someone you can relate to helps the interview so much. You should do more of. These types of interviews, I always have when people who don't know what they're talking about come and poke around. I enjoyed watching this one!

One of the few races that Im actually happy that I did not watch live. I learned about the crash 30 minutes after it had happened. I remember that I held my breath in shock when I saw what had happened even tough I knew he had survived the crash.

I was in a serious car crash at the start of November last year so this hit closer to him than it probably did for most. But I seriously admired how he coped with it all and it really put into perspective how mentally strong they are to just get into a car and carry on again

I think he’s a such a nice individual! Happy for him that he’s back in front of the grid in Indycar. It’s such a reminder that the car you drive in F1 is dictating where you are on the grid … Lewis is good, but a talented driver like Romain would be challenging him on his best days in a car equally competitive! Go show Americans what you are capable of!! Indianapolis 500 is stil a possibility !

Brilliant job Nico! As for my reaction; my first racing hero died when I was 4. I've seen so many leave us pursuing their passion. I was expecting him to be added to the list of tears. Clark, Villeneuve, Senna, Cevert, Pryce, Paletti, Bianchi, and too many others. It's both a testament to the modern car and a miracle that Romain is still with us.
When I first saw it I though it was going to be Lauda all over again. It took what seemed forever for him to emerge from the flames. He's so lucky it was first lap and the med car was following so people got there quickly. It's also amazing what the human body can do to make it self survive, he did amazingly to stay alert and get himself out so quickly.
Romain’s is such a great guy and we all lost a heartbeat when we saw his crash in the TV. Everytime I watch the footage it becomes clear how brave he was. Great interview Nico!

Thanks for interviewing Romain Grosjean. To me , he always seemed to get the rough end of the deal in Formula One and many drivers didn't seem to like him, but I did. Even more so since the accident and this subsequent interview. I also have his book. He's a normal family man and I bet he would be a good chap to meet and have a quick chat with. I was in tears when he was in that fireball crash and like everyone in the world, relieved when he emerged. Now, how about interviewing Kimi Räikkönen and getting a smile - now that would be a miracle.
Great stuff. Such a pleasure to have a look inside of the F1 through the eyes of a WDC. I love the take from former drivers about Alonso, Hamilton and Schumacher. Being a F1 driver puts you in the pinacle of motorsport so imagine how good those guys are that even their team mates are amazed by them.
Racing accidents are an integral part of F1 drivers life. Romain survives a life threatening racing accident & races again. This is what inspires everyone to look at life in a positive way & never give up. He is safe because of safety features like Halo. The conversation between the two of you was nice. Romain answered difficult questions frankly & honestly. the soft corners of his mind were opened. in 2022 F1 car will come in a new form. as an F1 fan I would love to see Nico Rosberg in the F1 seat again. About my first reaction: I just see a crash, didn't see the fire before the replay, and I don't know if it was the confidence in safety or a sort of deny, but I was like: I'm sure is ok, it was big but he will jump out. A bit like the reaction of Michael in the Netflix documentary when he saw the accident of Ayrton.
Romain has always struck me as one of the most genuine and likeable people on the grid. He is actually quite an inspirational role model. I think too the tag he was given was rather unfair, and I thought that at the time!
