The second half of this song is one of the very few where I prefer Tarja's version to Floor. It's like she's chanting incantations and hurling spells into the darkness. Spine-tinglingly great!
Absolutely, there is something unique about Tarja. Nice apocalyptic ending with her and that toxic green light and fountains of steam in the background - no matter if she banished something or wanted to bewitch us all to get a satisfied grin in our faces, her spell worked on me! 🙃😀

This is still my favorite version of this song. I remember back when this dvd came out I had a hard time getting it here in the US but it was worth the trouble. Both Floor and Tarja are amazing in this song but for some reason i just like this version.

Watching Tarja "totally losing it" in the intro will remain one of the best impressions I have seen of headbanging.
Tuomas is going "all in" because he knows as soon as this show is over he will give "the letter" to Tarja and this is the last time they will be on stage together.. Can't imagine the shitstorm going on through his mind in that performance.
actually, he claimed that he was naive enough to believe that blow back would be minimal...considering how popular Tarja was with fans, critics, industry in general, he really was awfully naive..but then he fired Annete with an email while she was stuck in the hospital

What I've always wondered was why. Tarja's contract was up in a year and she'd already said she was leaving. So why not just let it go? Either there was a huge fight leading to an epic break or everybody was naive. Tuomas for thinking he could fire her on a whim and Tarja for assuming he wouldn't dare.
Anette was a completely different issue. Too much said and done until they stopped communicating and everybody walked away bitter.
Would now like to see their reaction to the same song in Buenos Aires (2018?) with Floor. Not just because it's Floor, but because those people in BA are crazy! :-)

@@johndevisser903 She was even quite good in the studio, i just listened to "Poet and the Pendulum" 2-3 months ago and was really surprised how good the LP version with her sounds. But live on stage she was just a disaster.

Yes ...this is one of the ultimate best shows they have ever had....in many (all) ways. The uploaded all the emotions during this concert and clearly showed them to the audience which was able to see and feel it too so well. Next day the fans were totally shocked....and it was an awesome NW Era that ended. After a while Tuomas wrote "the Poet and the Pendulum".

oooh young power in stage i love it. little fact nightwish and finland heavy scene. finland heavy scene start 1985 when 2 metal band stone and tarot ( marko hietala and his brother set up) start. marko is finland heavy metal face and grand old man and pioneer of course. nightwish start 1996 and tarja turunen only 18 years old was first heavy metal female singer and pioneer that way of course. tuomas holopainen interesting heavy music,when he was student exchange in kansas usa, only 15 years old. kansas family take young tuomas to concert where playing metallica and guns and roses same time ( how awesome) finland have now 70 heavy bands / 100000 people. so this 5,5 million finland that is almoust 4000 heavy metal band. world record again. long live heavy. thanx and have great day there.

I have the DVD of this concert. And yes Tarja is my favorite and when I started listening to the band Nightwish, Tarja was part of that. My heart was broken when I heard the news that she wasn't part anymore of this band! Night wish have a great singer again and that is Floor Jansen. She is Dutch and so am I. She is doing great and she have a great voice. I love u Floor! But I love Tarja too and I am a great fan of her. 🙏

Yeah, they managed to put together a great show that night, even though four of them knew they were going to fire the fifth one after the show.
dismissing her after she already quit in 2004 ,but stayed as a favor to Tuomas to wrap up tour and find a replacement you mean...Tuomas who was already living on borrowed time and did not have the honor of making a joint public announcement, as she wanted to , in the first place...day of liberation for the siren

I can not say anyone was ever a better woman to pair with Marko on stage than Tarja! And in 2024 They are still magic together. So happy on stage. So free to be their silly selves. No need to hide from each other or the audience. The love pours both ways from the audience to the stage,and from the stage to the audience.
That mutual love and acceptance is something I hope somehow to experience 1st hand.

@@sm1echel Don't know about powerful or not, but to me they're surely better. Everything after Dark Passion Play pretty much suck. Tuomas decided he wanted to be Hans zimer and the songs got completely boring. Hearing the new album was painful. And poor Empuu, barely does anything anymore.

How much I miss Tarja, see was so special. At least we have Floor.
Of course Tarja is great, she was in the end maybe the biggest reason why Nightwish became so famous, and if she were not that good there mostly hadn't been that much drama and hate against Tuomas when she was fired.

i am a Floorboy 100%....but this is still my favorite live version of this song.
I love Tarja but Floor turned this song from a 7 to a 10. I just think Floor ads so much more versatility to the band. Tuomas can now write a song and know-how he wants the vocals to sound and know Floor can nail it. On a side note, Marco and Floor's vocals work together perfectly. The harmonies are insane.

hi i wanted to watch this cosert at least 3 or more times to confirm just notcied that Tuomas sings along with the lead singer but in this last consert he did sing but only with Marco when Tarja sang he kept his mouth closed and there is an overall disconnect from the boys and Tarja she loved / still loves fans and that was her focus

So crazy to think that other than Tarja, everyone in the band knew this was the end of the line with Tarja fronting the band. They all hugged and Tuomas handed her a letter from the band (mostly from him though) firing her when this show ended.
Interestingly, Elize Ryd from Amaranthe was one of the potential replacements, however they felt she was too young and inexperienced at the time.
