I think you are the only TH-camr (to my knowledge) that stuck with the "have fun and talk about interesting things" type of TH-cam/internet that I remember from 2014. Honest, non-clickbait, learning but fun, interesting videos. I don't think that the internet was fully that with no hate comments and violent videos and all, but it feels like there isn't an internet that has interesting and mildly-to-very educational videos just for fun anymore - they're for sponsors, or clicks, or the increasingly popular radicalisation and extremism purposes. Thanks for all you've given us.

In 1972 I started work as an engineering apprentice and over the next 18 years I worked my way up to be in charge of a nationally known brand, but the higher I climbed the ladder it was clear that the increased workload was taking its toll. In 1990, to much amazement of those around me, I decided to return to the role of hands-on technical electro-mechanical engineering and for the next 31 years my job satisfaction and happiness increased. Learning from the past I was happy to limit my role to what made me happy. Three years ago I finally retired and the decision to acknowledge when the 'time is right' has been one of my better decisions in life. Thank you for your entertainment, it is now YOUR TIME TOM, TO ENJOY LIFE 😊.
It's always seemed bizarre to me that "career progress" always meant transitioning into a different role -- and very often one you don't want or aren't skilled at. It's a problem with hierarchical structure that's totally fixable, but for whatever reason it's all a pyramid that ends in "management."

i do genuinely come back to this video every now and again for inspiration because i want this to be my life: my dream job, building a life off of having fun sharing knowledge, knowing when to stop to keep it forever fun. and also, to one day have an excuse to be harnessed in to a helicopter and get a sick shot of myself flying with a sunset in the background

I know this reply is late. But I just wanted to say Tom Scott is one of the few rare times a TH-camr has used the platform for immeasurable level of goodness. Most of the world will never get to travel or have the experiences that they wish they could have. Tom Scott opened up the whole world to all of us and allowed us to learn things we never would have been able to. He also brought the world together by connecting cultures through education. I seriously can not think of another channel that has done this much good for humanity. I hope he returns some day to continue this force of good.

Watched him on University Challenge, watched him explaining his "day job" in IT, he would have been successful whatever he did, but his communication skills and "riz", as the kids call it, made him immensely popular on TH-cam. He could have sold out and got a safe job on BBC or Channel Four but he stayed independent and that's hard work.
I'm envious, but not jealous. As I suspect you are. I don't have his talent or his capacity for sheer hard work. I envy that, but don't begrudge him his success, financially or otherwise

I know this reply is late. But I just wanted to say Tom Scott is one of the few rare times a TH-camr has used the platform for immeasurable level of goodness.
Most of the world will never get to travel or have the experiences that they wish they could have. Tom Scott opened up the whole world to all of us and allowed us to learn things we never would have been able to.
He also brought the world together by connecting cultures through education. I seriously can not think of another channel that has done this much good for humanity. I hope he returns some day to continue this force of good.
I think a lot of it is his natural curiosity.
Certainly a trait not everyone has but I really appreciate.
