If the metaverse is about decentralization, why are some companies like Meta taking the front-row in its development? Looks like no matter how we try, this will still be centralized because in the end, some big companies that spearheaded its development can come up and say they want the central power. My thoughts...

Mainstream headsets just aren't quite there yet. Powerful yes, but cheap, comfortable and user friendly, they have a ways to go. I can only play on my Oculus Quest 2 for about an hour before it becomes quite uncomfortable and hot. Once they are as convenient as putting on a pair of glasses, they will be mainstream. We are in the "brick cell phone" phase of VR.

Yes just imagine an oculus with lenses as thin as a phone screen. My issue isnt with the system getting hot but it just feels heavy on my nose and head after a hour or two of play.

Reality check: We do not need a metaverse at all... these kids are already way over their heads with all this tehnology!
Incorrect. We have developed a work around for that issue. Which means real time processing on each side of the active parties. If 5 people are playing 5 people are individually building a portion of the reality. This results in multiple small bandwidths instead of the old school one massive bandwidth use.
@@KeithLburns Great idea in theory but if the user experience is dependant on other people's hardware and internet connection, that would be an absolute nightmare and would require massive resources just to secure and manage. Imagine the vulnerabilities that would introduce. Current scaleable hardware and software implementations for a mass scale system like that are decades away from being able to efficiently handle that kind of thing at least not without major and constant issues.

The problem is less so the idea of the Metaverse as it is the company behind it. People simply don't trust Zuck or Meta/Facebook in any way shape or form and want to try and distance themselves as much as possible from the company's ventures as possible.

Amazon with unethical practices and wages, Twitter with its promotion of dissonance, etc.), but I feel Meta/FB resonates more from the data leaks and the disgusting amount of data they have on users.

The biggest and best distraction of the 21st Century is coming our way. Star Trek, has that one-liner that says "It's life but not as we know it" who could have put a sentence like that which was well before it's time.

The internet is here for quite some time now, and people are still traveling to Rome and Hanoi for real. Really don't see the point. Even if VR will be kind of "perfect" at some point in the future (and this is still a big IF), people will still want the "real" experience.
@@thomaslilly5834 yeah, part of traveling is to experience all things and most importantly, Human interactions which comes with a risk. In real travel, we are taking risks - like flight delays, like rickshaw driver in Beijing charging too much or buying overpriced fake leather goods in Istanbul or buying pens and Keychain from Venezuelan in Medellin. I think, those experiences are very hard to copy.
How does one experience the Vatican or Wadi rum or the Great Wall or Ankor Wat or Colorado river from meta environment?
@@mjf1975 yes, I agree. For those who has no resource, it would be a great preview. Meta or any AR environment wouldn't be able to offer any real experience of traveling for simply legal and liability issues.
It is never going to be a human experience, it will be an observation. We would be observing those places within a safe space. Human experience includes interaction with surroundings, nature, other humans, risks. And every action, we will have reactions, positive and negative. Meta is going to regulate those reactions in AR space for safety and ofcourse they will have to monetize it.
Metaverse existed since the first multiplayer Video Games were born.

My prediction: Meta verse will never be our future. An anti electronic revolution is coming. The better and more all consuming tech gets the more stressed out we get. I see people moving away from it. I certainly am.

I don't think technology is the problem, it's how it's abused by corporations and grifters to hack people's brains into addiction and mine as much of their data and money as possible. If an anti-tech revolution actually took off, we'd probably see the exact same kind of grifts and scams infesting VR (I refuse to use the term Metaverse) co-opt that movement as well.

That’s not necessarily true. Sometimes things are just a head of their time. Computers and the internet use to be seen as things nerds in a basement and shady people used. Now it’s a part of everyday life.

That fight is lost. The human species will be gone in 150 years. VR will make the end more comfortable by allowing people to have a break.
I play both Fortnight and Elden Ring. In Fortnight I realized the potential for the vast environments in the side games for doing work, socializing and so on, but even though I'm impressed by Fortnight me and a lot of the older milenials dislike the intensly bright colors of Fortnight and after a while have to log off because of how cartoonish and bright it all is. In Elden Ring it's the opposite. Everything is very muted and discolored and that gets old too. I think if we can strike a balance and even have some environments that feel and look and are colored like their real counter parts people would be able to stand more time in the Metaverse. I also highly disslike the cartoony avatars that make me think of better versions of Wii characters or Fortnight characters and would prefer character creation that is more realistic and based on people's real images/videos and selfies but that can be edited a little to be more realistic or ideal since cameras distorn faces anyways. I also think to prevent bullying it's important to know the person I'm looking at is very similar to their real in life person so that people have less incentive to bully because it's their actual likeness, not just some avatar. For interaction and usability I'd like coffee shops with coffee shop music stations and Up Work type meeting rooms that feel less cramped with great views and blackboards for writing and typing on with functions and programs like Monday, Mind Maps, Canva, Calculators, Google Drive, Docs IRS freeds and more.
What i find interesting is the dislike button was removed just before the announcement of the i am an idiotverse.
Lets buy digital real estate and digital clothing.

I would dream of this possibility when I was a child. A magical place where anything can happen. A place where pain and sorrow doesn't exist.

The smart people were talking about the internet in the 1960's. They connect the TX-2 at MIT to the Q-32 in Santa Monica via a dedicated telephone line with acoustic couplers. People who watched cartoons(The Jetsons) said we would have flying cars.
@@abram730 The internet back then was purely a DARPA project, with no plans of making it publicly accessible. It's a military project that slowly found widespread adoption and use by the public. The Metaverse/NFT/Web3 space on the other hand seems to be an entirely private venture to, for lack of a better analogy, make fetch happen.

it would be easy to have a transfer character system if: Every game or metaverse would utilize the same basic character rules, and have an integration system for their metaverse. So when we first create our metaverse character, if we jump into a game but the games graphics are comic book style, it just takes the rules we made about our character (hair, clothes, tattoos, jewelry) and integrate it into their game so we look the same, only just slightly different to fit the style of game.

I wish the vast resources the major companies have that are trying to control the metaverse work on solving real problems while working on the future instead of pushing a work-in-progress version which still has a lot of glitches and problems. It’s tough - you need users to help shape which problems to solve, but if it’s unusable, then adoption will be slower. As the video mentioned, if a majority of people don’t have access, or are far from it, this will be very niche for those that do have access. I do understand how far cell phones have come, so it’s definitely possible, but struggle with the benefit of the metaverse and it’s applications. Making $ cannot be the only reason - if I’m going to spend money on clothing for my avatar, that’s nice, but that money could go towards real things. I don’t value the avatar over my real self. It’s interesting, but not compelling.

Being of age and how to manage the sequence of returns in those early periods is what seems quite scary in the current market. I am into metaverse right now, and I agree with how you explained how metaverse work but I highly suggest to you that you need to check this new metaverse project that is powered by Solana called MetaVersus which they build a true metaverse and provide a hyper-realistic, virtual world to the creators and gamers which they are rewarded.
